  1. I need to reduce the temperature of the exhaust system on my 2012 KTM 690 Enduro so that I can run rackless luggage. The 690 with stock exhaust generates an insane amount of heat which exceeds the specs of standard heat shields. So one option is to engineer a Mad Max style heavy duty heat shield. Another is option is to get an aftermarket exhaust, which I would have done a long time ago if I had the cash, but I don't. The final option I'm looking at is removing the catalytic converter from my stock exhaust - and that last option is what I'd appreciate input on. Has anyone removed the cat from a 690 enduro stock exhaust and actually run the bike after?? If so, I would love to hear from you, because what I really want to know is whether I'll need to remap. The bike is far, far away from a KTM dealer who can remap it for me, so if I pull out the catalytic converter and the bike doesn't run properly, I'm toast. So I'm seeking a definite answer rather than best guesses on this one. I found one guy who pulled the cat out of the stock exhaust but he then never ran the bike with that exhaust (this dude: http://690enduror.blogspot.com/2014/11/decatting-690-enduro-r-stock-exhaust.html ). I found another guy over on advrider in a posting from 2014, "dogday", who not only pulled the cat out but also did some further remodeling of the baffles etc, which muddies the waters somewhat (I don't know if he had to remap and he seems to have disappeared off the forum). If there's information out there that I've missed, please point me in the right direction! Thanks!

  2. On another note, I made it home yesterday, after a nice ride. Had a nice meal all by myself, of a little cheese and peas with chorizo, was half way to getting a little drunk on my favorite local whine when my folks called to ask if I had been allowed in as my area has exploded with hundreds of infected cases overnight. This is worry for Portugal as all the big distribution centers for the major supermarkets are here, and if they shut down it would get tricky to distribute food and stuff. I'm not too worried myself, as I am alone anyway. It's raining, though, so I am home.

  5. I lived in Germany from just after my birth until I was 5 and my brother was born there as my dad was an RAF Policeman and it was vital that he extracted the brill cream boys from the German pubs on a Friday night in case of a Russian invasion over the weekend. The rest of the time he was a dog handler, so we shared the house with a hulking great Alsatian called 'Bruce'! When my brother was in his early 20s his employer wanted him to travel to somewhere in Europe, but he had a lot of trouble getting a British passport because of not being born in the UK.

  8. Let get this straight, you feel like you have a blown front tire, so instead of stopping and having a look you simply ride back home? Tomorrow, I might go for a little ride on Maria's bike, it hasn't gotten a warm up in a little time, maybe 5 or 6 months, maybe more. Might even post a video of how a bike starts ....

  12. We're later down the line than Spain, though, Pete. Lots of people on the train come here to work on these places, daily, and that never stopped until now, so there you go.

  17. After nearly 15 years here I should be used to Spanish logic......in terms of it doesn't exist. Because we're still in the position of having the same restrictions in place as Madrid! We've had 3 RECOVERED cases.......and they've had 8500 DEATHS!
