I have three guys from Ohio arriving tomorrow - after their 1,300 miles of shit riding across the Midwest (Kansas sucks more than anything in the World) in two days. They'll stay here for a night or two before continuing on westward. Will probably ride with them for a bit Sunday before splitting off and returning home. Pics to follow, of course.3 points

That was lifted on 2nd June and in any case this is a neccessary visit to a family member " at risk" and unable to deconfine for health reasons. which would entittle one of us to go visit and do what needs doing, as it is I can take Madame with me.2 points

Needed a bike to do Prudhoe Bay on: Succumbed to the call of the GS, finally The power and smoothness of a 6-cyl is fun! Wasnt going to go the liquid cooled GS route, until I rented one in Europe. getting older, so an upright sport bike is perfect! Mind wasnt maturing, so a normal sport bike had to be had. followed by a slight upgrade and, then stupidity reigned and i had to have the newest somewhere in the middle of the lunacy, got the Rallye version. Great offroad bike with all the electronic nannies Should stay away from the dealerships, as the updated XR called my name out.2 points

Well I've seen a few over the years....so I could probably fill this thread up with stories. One that springs to mind was a buddy of @Renegade........who I had the misfortune to be behind on a run back in 2003/4. Ren knew he was a total twat but didn't warn me! I won't name him on here but Ren knows who I'm talking about! So I'm behind this guy on country roads and whenever he sees chevrons way up ahead for an oncoming bend......he just slams the anchors on. So then he has to accelerate again to reach the bend.....and slams the anchors on again. Going into a bend (totally upright) he seems to drift from one side of the bend to the other for no reason. Then when you finally got through the bend you'd start to pick up speed again......and he slams the brakes on! For no fucking reason. But the final thing (which I'll never forget).....we get to a long straight of about a mile.....totally clear. And he waves frantically for me to overtake him! Nothing odd about that you may think? Well it is when you consider he was on an XJR1300 and I was on a TTR250!1 point

I've always had Tourances on my GS - they were a great road tire, but not so much off road.1 point

didn't quite do the run I'd planned today as unfortunately, Madame MooN doesn't live in the same space / time continuum as the rest of us mere mortals which means that we often eat at unorthodox hours... To be fair she's currentlt doubling up as telephone information service for friends and family wanting updates on her mothers state of health. I managed to finish the washing up by about half 2 and get out of the way before her bestie turned up for the afternoon... I had set the gps to take me south into the morvan with the Dam at the Lac de panneciere as a waypoint and Mont beuvray as a trunaround, back lanes and minor roads only on the way out and a faster trace to get back home. It kind of worked, I still found myself on some very stony tracks, not a probel in itself but not what I wanted really and the gps clearly thinks it's a road. I got a quick drenching on the way back which wasn't forcast either so I had no waterproofs with me ( unusual for me, I usually carry them all the time) but I managed to avoid the worst of it by boxing round the showers and I'd ried out again by the time I got home. 340 km in 6 hrs ( that's an average of only about 55km/h some piccies: Nice address... Crossing the river Chateau Faulin Dam! Here's your "Boeuf Bourguignon"... on the hoof, as it were... Just the other side of this junction I would be liable for a 135€ fine... 100km as the crow flies from my domicile.1 point

Well, its a weekend, get my ski mask, and gatt, head downtown with a pallet of bricks and go shopping, anyone need a rolex?1 point

That's the image that the manufacturers have sold them Bob! And what they don't seem to want to accept is that a completely different set of riding skills are needed.1 point

Most of the bad riders I've come across are road warriors (no offence to anyone) who want to do trail riding. Their first mistake is that turn up on some 1000/1200cc adventure bike (on road tyres) and insist that they'll be able to get down any lane that I can on my 250/400 trail bike. After you've picked them up for about the fifth time in the first 800yds some of them might get the message that smaller/lighter is much better1 point

1300 miles? ? To give you a perspective that's about the distance between the south coast of Spain on the Mediterranean to the north coast of France and the English Channel.1 point

Shame really, had a couple of GSX1400’s, a Z1000 and a Honda CB1300. The Honda probably suited me best.1 point

Great photos, looks like a cool place to stop during a ride. Abandoned places are very interesting, to me at least. Stopped by your YouTube channel, Grasshopper's Ride has subscribed! ?1 point

There are some people who should never ride bikes......ever! It doesn't matter how long they ride, they just have so little ability that they're a menace to others. I remember one guy in the early 70's......he was always an accident waiting to happen. He didn't belt about or do crazy things.....it's just that he was a disaster. The number of times he left his sidestand down and came off was unbelievable. But he still did it. He'd wear big baggy flares which acted like parachutes......and on a few occasions the kickstarter would go up inside them after he'd kicked the bike over. And he'd find that out when he came to a stop and tried to put his foot down......and over he went. Wearing a long scarf round his neck......getting it tangled up in the chain and nearly strangling himself......yeh he did that as well.1 point

Another one one i remember was at the top end of the Elan Valley. I Stopped to look at the view above a couple of sharp bends in the road as it was a nice day and saw a large group of bikes coming towards me in the distance, so decided to hang about to see what was going on, as i was watching them start to ride up towards me two of them just fell off on the bend below they were travelling just over walking space and just keeled over like someone had switched them off. Chatting to one of the group that manged to get to me he said they were on a led ride out from a bike rally and half of them had never ridden a country road before and didn't know how to ride around a tight uphill bend, these were guys who were 50+ Street view of where i stopped to admire the view with said bend look how difficult it is not https://www.google.com/maps/@52.3311763,-3.6070901,3a,75y,265.41h,93.6t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s5G9_J2rVEanwnVjPshuLqA!2e0!7i13312!8i66561 point

So agree, I might not be into what you are into, but gosh darn it, if you are not passionate about something then I'm moving on..... ?1 point
