My "son" (long story, but a good one) said he wanted to see the Baja1000. Something i've always wanted to see, too. So, we arranged for a third buddy (fluent in spanish and baja) and headed off last Thursday evening. Checked the gummit websites to see if borders were closed (they were), but have had several riding friends crossing over and back. I guess dirt riding in Baja IS an essential activity. Got a great BNB in Ensenada ("son" is a non-rider, so we drove) and spent all day at Osos Negros, on Hwy 3, watching the bikes, quads, trucks, beetles and what not. Came back to Ensenada saturday afternoon to an excellent dinner at Sano's Restaurant, before crashing into bed around 5:30 pm. Not really lightweights, but due to scheduling errors, we had been up since Thursday morning. Saturday was a day off (see scheduling errors) so we hit La Bufadora and then Coyote Cals for lunch. Crossed the border into the newnited states of amurica sunday morning, after a 2 hr border wait, but we got to hang with several trophy trucks in line. Great time and an eye opener for the kid, as it was with me several years ago. Baja sunrises are epic! Poor planning left us at the section where there was a 35 mph speed limit! ? But, we got great, clear shots of the racers Great apartment in Ensenada, on a hill overlooking the harbor. $65/night which is crazy cheap considering hotel costs in the USA. Asada fries and freshly made guacamole Best thing about Baja is that there really are few rules, and even fewer traffic police. This trophy truck was driving thru town, on the way back to its shop. The co-driver was asleep, which was quite an accomplishment, considering how loud the truck was. Instant ticket on several counts in "civilized" USA You pay your $75 fee and you can race what ya brung. La Bufadora - the blowhole! Love the "we arent responsible for people who dont follow the rules". Obviously, Baja has way too few lawyers for their own good ? Well known with the dirty crowd Turtle had no name. Guess that is ok as it probably wouldnt come if you called it. Well, it wouldnt come right away. Damnd straight, skippy!6 points

He doesn’t need disqualification, what @Sir Fallsalot needs is to submit his picture in a proper way instead of boasting about being a celebrity on some needy forum, that doesn’t carry any weight with this lot!4 points

This is like the government here Fred. Nothing goes through without a taskforce being created to choose people for the think tank, and then everything being put through a vote by the final committee2 points

Yes but i do stupid things cant help myself i say I'm out for an hour and gone all day so she's used to that and its normal, Sunday i found myself picking my way across a peat bog moor at dust knowing there's a possibility i could get stuck the other end and when i do get back to safety its dark and i have to stop myself from doing more dodgy off road routes i ended up giving myself a row in my head saying go home on the road you daft bastard lol1 point

I also get a little freaked out when cornering with road bikes with short front suspensions, like a CBR, s1000r, Speed Triple, seems like I’m always almost feeling stuff that scares me. On a traillie the wheel is way over there doing it’s thing and not needing my help1 point

Maybe turning on your phone’s location sharing when you’re out riding might be useful, if eventually you don’t come back for dinner? Obviously, assuming you’re always really riding motorcycles ...1 point

They’re tiny, but the 701 road spec one is quite cool, in my opinion. But for some reason I’m only at ease on bikes with proper offroad style handlebars and traillie body position1 point

I could submit a photo of me riding out of a subterranean tunnel engulfed in a fireball, while dodging missiles and buildings collapsing around me......with Sandra Bullock on the back......and Bob's Leg would still get more votes!1 point

I think you missed your natural vocation by not going into motorcycle journalism Fred! And look at all that shit on your bike! I'm sure you went out today with the sole intention of covering yourself and your bike with any disgusting filth you could find......just to freak me and @Tym out!1 point

Waking up took me a while, I planned on a long ride but ended up only left the house by 10, that doesn't give a lot of time before the lockdown at 13, so I just went to the Douro, and had a cup of coffee there. I don't spend many weekends here, but this is where a lot of bikers come for a short weekend morning ride, they meet up at the marina's cafe before riding back, it's only about 25 or 30km to Porto via a twisty road. This is a cool road they ride but on weekends it's just too much lazy traffic, too many bikes too. I chose to keep to a smaller cafe with almost nobody there instead of joining the mob, social distancing comes very natural to my reserved ways. On the other side of that river, right to the red cafe is where all the bikes are, maybe you can see them if you're able to zoom in. They were making themselves heard from this side as everyone that arrived seemed to have a stuck throttle Going back I avoided the busy road, but my plan was to explore a "Serra" that I had been curious about for some time, Serra da Boneca was my stop on the way back home. The dirt roads getting to the more scenic spots were all closed, I don't really know why, I expected the road to get a lot steeper so I walked the last 100 or 200 meters. Turns out the steeper bit was exactly where they put the gate, which isn't cool . It was quite windy up there, quite nippy too, but the views were nice. Got back home in time to buy some bread before the lockdown. Gave the bike a wipe before lunch, meant to wash it properly but I don't like washing it without being able to ride it warm and dry after, this bike hides water poodled inside like it's magic.1 point

I had a message from blunder road (thunder road) motorcycles to say the brake pads for the XR were in, so decided to take the dog via the little country roads to Bridgend to pick them up, when i get there they sure lived up to their nick name they ordered me rear pads instead of the fronts I'd asked for? so i bought them to keep in the spares box. That means another visit next week, ahh well it got me out on the bike and i stayed out for another couple of hours, it was wet and windy but the waterproofs kept me dry quite enjoyed it. only took a couple of photos twas a little wet you see The road to the bike shop is not the best or it is the best depending on how you look at it ? Heading up over the Bwlch mountain road And heading home1 point

still in confinement here. weather clear but cold and we had the first frost of the season this morning. Had to send No. 1 out for supplies this morning as Madame MooN is not well. I don't think it's the dreaded lurghy but she does so as a professional hypochondriac she is is busy preparing for the worst .1 point

Nice pics @Grasshopper's Ride, i forgot my camera butt, i rode downtown, my new 12 volt coil ran the LED;s no problem on Loosenuts with the battery disconnected, the only flicker comes when you kill the motor. I showed Antman outside the liquor store, he thinks i know something, he loved the lights.. all the people waiting in line for the Sushi place next door dint like the smoke when i rode by, oh well... Friday night rocks so far...1 point

Only big to Europeans. Those miles are very easily done in a 8 hour day here. Crossing the desert areas you can do 600 miles in 7 hours easily. It looks like a lot but it isn't.1 point

@XTreme seems to have missed the point of this thread, next he’ll be taking his bike’s dials and taking a picture with them from his couch1 point

There are travel "suggestions" here, don't go out unless you have to kind of thing. You can "play" outside but keep it local and no groups. Not really a concern as we just go into the forest and don't play well with others anyways. ? So today we enjoyed a nice ride in the misty forest. Stopped at a waterfall for my BOTM pic and Bagheera wanted to take a shower.....? Plan to ride around tomorrow and Sunday as well as work on my next YouTube video "First Snow"1 point

My daughter never had any symptoms so she's always been ok. I haven't heard the wife moan for a while so she must be ok as well LOL1 point

Weather is not looking too good here this weekend either. Got a ride planned with the TRF next weekend so might have a shakedown ride on the XR tomorrow . Wife and kids out all day so can have a guilt free ride lol1 point

You can't leave home except to work, exercise or walk dogs. What is enforced is traffic between councils. This goes for almost all regions, and has been going for a week now. This is in place from 11PM to 5AM on weekdays, and from 1PM to 5AM on weekends.1 point

We are only on council lockdown from 1PM on weekends, Pete, so tomorrow morning I'll go for a ride on my bike, make it home before lunch and then maybe wash it in the afternoon (Pete's washing machine smilie)1 point
