  1. So I found a couple of photos of Pete on his ex-John Deacon bike when we went to the Pyrenees. This actually in France on the way down, we found some gravel to play in next to the river Loire....

  3. Perhaps in future all photos for BOTM need to be 1920 x 220 or something that can be cropped to that. That's about 8.7:1. Wide angle shots preferred. Is that about right size wise @XTreme?

  7. After I saw this thread I had a look to see if it was available for free, but there was a monthly charge. My mate Charlie's 2nd CCM was an ex Dakar bike, one of the ones they made for privateers to enter on one year. It had a spare CDI bolted on for a quick swap if one went down and lots of extra power takes offs scattered about the wiring loom???? He was too tight to buy the extra large tank that could have come with it and we were always having to wait for him to fuel up. It also used to refuse to electric start and the cure was removing the seat (2 bolts) and tapping a small relay with something heavy. By the time he put the seat back it would have cut out and he would have to do it again, they did not like ticking over. I'd have lengthened the wires and had it outside the bike for 'donking' if it was my bike.

  8. I used to watch the Dakar in the mid 90s when I had cable tv and Eurosport. Always felt sorry for the poor sods starting on New Year's day or close to it. watching Stefaen Petehansal ride the big Yamaha through dunes was like watching a ballet, so smooth and planned compared to everybody else dug in or plummeting off sheer drops and cartwheeling. I was gutted when he switched to cars. I don't really have any interest in any motor sport unless people fall off or crash a lot, so it ticked all my boxes.

  10. Watching them struggle in the dunes was pretty cool, reminds me of the dunes at Vandenberg AFB in California.

  19. Thanks gents, yep there’s some decent places to explore and we are lucky with the winter weather, it’s one of the reasons we chose this area. No very tourist orientated and great climate.

  23. I'm lucky in that I decide when I have to go into work rather than work from home. When I get sad or bored of sitting at home at least I can ride to work, it's still riding my bike and I do have cross country routes if I want them. I have been only agreeing external meetings after checking the weather to see if I can get there and back without getting wet. Having said that, when I realise I can't just go out and ride where I want, it makes me want to do it more, like a big kid really.

  32. Oh Dear Cheeks, I'm just taking a guess but it sounds like you might have a few digestive issues. Perhaps you are not absorbing water correctly, hence the free flow in the rear. That might explain the volume of hair in this region as well. I'm not telling you what to do, but I suggest more fibre. ??

  38. Depends, in Connecticut it can take and hour to go 30 miles sometimes, depending on direction, while out west they can do 60-90 miles in the same time.

  39. My ideal bike would be a Triumph Tiger 800, but I've also been considering the Honda NC750X and the CB500X. So, a mid range adventure style bike. Another alternative is a more road orientated bike for distance riding and a small off-road bike for the fire tracks through the woods. Still plenty to think about.

  40. Well I've been belted by at least a dozen females......and stabbed by one! I might have behaved inappropriately on a few occasions, and the others (including the stabbing) was when I red carded them. The situation with the ex-wife was I'd already told he I'd had enough of her shit (and jamrags) and I was leaving. A few days later I may have inadvertently mentioned to her that she was being replaced by a 20 year old........and she just lost her shit completely!

  41. When my ex moved out of our house she crushed cereals into the carpets and took the hoover, peeled all the labels off the tins of food so I had no idea what was in them and removed all the lightbulbs. She also took every stick of furniture apart from some beach chairs in the garage and a crappy old TV. Mind you, it was a small sacrifice to get her out of the house ???

  45. I searched John Deacon on Youtube and up came a 1998 Cambrian Rally highlight video with a brilliant commentary. I'd forgotten he used to do those as well. I know I was there and he mentions 3 people I was there with, Strange Dave, John Perk (Perky) and Jackie Mawhood, but I must have been too slow to get near a camera. Worth watching just to see Pat Tighe muscling his Africa Twin through the boggy bits and the Transalp with a customised fairing, customised by leaving a large piece in the welsh scenerey by the look of it.

  46. That's right Bob. i know some on here will say that's nothing, in the US where you have thousands of miles of open roads i would agree but here in the UK its different riding that distance as you know Bob. It was 580 ish miles if i remember right
