Some old pics of my XR450 from back in the day. These are from 1996 when my XR400 was punched out to a 450. larger TM carb added, high compression piston, HRC cam and much upgraded suspension. I raced in the 250-A class with it. The bike was still a bit lardy and took some muscle to throw it around, but I wasn't a small lad, either...5 points

You haven't missed anything. Snow is asshole deep on a 9 foot Indian, it's well be low freezing every day and riding bikes is but a dream that is 6 months away for me. But it is sunny today!5 points

After two weeks of being stagnant in temps down to -7, along with a shitfest of rain, snow and ice......the Beemer needed firing up! Would it start......or would it explode? This is the Style......3 points

and made a video. There's also Ericeira's blue and white houses, sunshine, a lighthouse, old school windmills, and cool sunlight shining through trees on a forrest road, some twisties, all kinds of stuff. I even try and speak for a few seconds, and it feels awkward as shit!3 points

You're such a beemer owner troll If you're interested, I'm pretty sure you'll be able to get portuguese citizenship with a few euros, can't see Portugal turning brits away as we're too money hungry spineless for that.3 points

Sitting around talking to my buddy Dave in Indiana today. We settled on some dates and a rough time frame for a ride to California this summer. Dates are May 28th through June 6th; 8 nights 9 days to the coast and back. A little less mileage this time around - about 300 miles per day. Our vague route will include Lake Tahoe, Redwood Forests, Pacific Ocean, Crater Lake, Bonneville Salt Flats. See attached pic. As usual, if any of you casual riders would like to come along with us, you're more than welcome. So far, it's just myself, Dave and his wife Debbie going. Room for more!3 points

As a side note, Cabo da Roca is one of the places Lisbon's motorcycles flock to on sunday rides, it's nice and quiet on a day like today though.3 points

We changed all of the forks internal valving, much stiffer springs and did the same with the shock - so it was pretty dialed in as far as suspension goes. The motor was the only let down as it didn't rev out much and got kinda flat in the top end. Thought I was tap dancing with as much shifting as I had to do to keep it in the power. Two years after this, I began racing a Yamaha YZF400F - the first modern era production four stroke MX bike. It had a great powerband and would rev to the Moon. Could do a whole race in 3rd and 4th gears.2 points

Nobody told you to move to the cold high plains. The coldest I've been has been in Spain, my car at the time slept outside the hotel and had ice cataracts from bumper to the ground in the morning, that's just not christian!2 points

Indeed, Grasshopper! What most people don't know is that if you are yourself you are cool, regardless if others are aware of this at the time or not. This is the unfairness of coolness.2 points

Royal Enfield has just lost my confidence, they got a guy from a chinese voice over product guidance to do their tutorial on how to change a battery, and also made changing a battery harder than on an BMW GS?2 points

Just to make it clear @Sir Fallsalot, the "you" in my coolness post wasn´t directed at you, it´s directed at humanity. You're cool, unless you wear white motocross boots which I'm sure you don't.2 points

There are rules, Fred, and there is a natural coolness factor, everything is to be considered. It's no joke.2 points

I know what you mean about talking on video and hate hearing myself speak but i must say you sounded perfectly natural and very good English with no profanities unlike that uncouth bastard from Swansea2 points

Great shots, looks like fun, but the start would scare me with all the bikes going off at once. ? Nice to see you back here @Earache Good content has been missed! I can only do so much......?2 points

I nominate you for that position, think of it as a service to everyone.2 points

Most bikes won’t start if they’re frozen solid for a day. Have you considered a quick disconnect thing to take the battery inside or just some sort of awning to take the frost away? If you’re living in your own house, I’d build some kind of shelter, at least from the frost coming from above.2 points

Wow, to have a bike that starts like that after two weeks.....nice! Mine won't start that well after two days of sitting..... ?2 points

Your way of fixing a straight cut through that leather was to put tape over it? Here in europe, we have these people that specialize on fixing and maintaining shoes.2 points
-
The tape is because a paramedic cut the boot off in 2007. I dint want him too, it was easy for them to convince me it was the way to go at the time...2 points

I really enjoyed your video. ? I have not seen a full day of sun in awhile so it was nice to see that. Again the landscape was amazing! I think you did great with the talking bits, helps the viewer know where you are. You have a lovely voice!2 points

No - mainly as there were no dealers for them; so no parts, spares, etc. They would have cost a fortune if they were available.1 point

Back then you probably already had Husabergs and Husqvarnas with enough of an engine to have torque from down low and rev up when you wanted. If you liked an XR you probably didn't mind the weight, did you have those in the US?1 point

I haven´t had a proper frosty beer mug in a while, man that makes me salivate. On the other hand, those two plates before, I don't get the vibe on those. Just too many things I can't tell apart in a picture, I'm sure it would be different in person, specially after a frosty beer mug like that.1 point
