I am a firm believer in that you can ride big distances on any bike as long as it can cruise at about 65 mph. Along with some mates we did a tour from the UK right across to the old east Germany, down through the Czech Republic, northern Italy and back home through France. 3000 miles in eight days. All on XR650’s and not a problem. Adjust your mindset and all is well. ?

We humped back to my house and then into Central City for the annual Madam Lou Bunch Bed Races. Lou Bunch was a famous whore in the area back in the gold rush days. So now we celebrate her by having women dress up like whores and push them down the street in beds. Weird, I'll give ya that - but raises some cash for charity and is an excuse for day drinking on the streets...

I rarely go through the Park unless I have visiting friends with me that want to. It usually has loads of traffic crawling at 15 mph and few passing zones....

Pretty good scenery in the Park, once you get past the cheeky tourists....

Reminds me of a time in Borneo, when we held off a village of man eaters, me, my faithfull man servant Pashtoon, and a mule named Buck mined Bat chit for homemade gunpowder, forming a cannon out of a hollowed log, we directed a massive blast wiping out 47 centuries of indiginous life forms. Weight is ok until you have to push them around in the yard or garage, I’ve never had a problem with weight when riding on standard roads.

I hate it when people post rides that aren't very current. But due ti the current weather conditions, it's all I can do. So here's a lap of RMNP from 2 years ago. Did the ride with my buddy from Ireland, Aidan Brown. He sadly passed away in a bike accident in Ireland shortly after this trip.....

we're on the 4th generation of those, they even have them in a small trailor, capable of controlling simultaneously 4 lanes of traffic both directions.... funny thing is though... they keep getting burnt, or shot, or painted out... but you're right, big power is pretty pointless these days, unless you live near a german autobahn

From what I've read it does seem those national parks' roads are indeed great but very heavy slow traffic. What time of year was that? Great views, as always great scenery! And yes, the old madam celebratory march is a little weird, but it makes sense in a mardi gras kind of way. Let loose and get rid of your fantasies kind of thing. More like the tourist blocking the view!

I totally agree with you Ray, my CRF250 Rally took me to France and back twice before it was two years old. Just avoid motorways and it's superb, the bonus is 80mpg as well

I did lots of long trips on my KLR when i first got it, only because Tammy was nuts for long weekend rides 2000 mile 3 day trips were the norm for awhile till we both got Connies. Its nicer having 1000cc's and locking luggage.
