  1. It's so cool - even though we got over 40 inches of snow, probably 1/3 of it has already melted away and the rest will be gone by the weekend. The Sun is so bright and the humidity levels are so low that it just disappears pretty quickly. Out on the bikes in no time.

  6. Good good. You possibly could move the ‘other people’ alert level down to defcon 3 then? Mind you a week or so ago some arsehole who’s card wouldn’t work in his petrol pump decided that it would be fine to squeeze himself between me n my bike and petrol pump to “see if my card works in here” and as he was a mere 30cm from my face unmasked saying this I did find myself turning into a loud hailer “MOVE BACK TO 2 METRES NOW” everyone in the petrol station stepped back even if they were at another pump ? Funny how easy it is to go from completely chilled out to defcon 1 in a second!

  8. Today’s pesto, no pine nuts at home so made with pecan nuts, supermarket parmesan instead of pecorino, but pulled it off using a healthy amount of garlic and some freshly ground pepper Washing it down now with some chilled white wine sitting outside

  11. Fit is a word that has never been used to describe me - not in the last 20 years at least. Stout, tank-like and ox-like have been used, but not fit. 3 days of shoveling and I'm sore as shit. Even my elbows are sore. Just finished up at the school again today and am now gonna lay around for the rest of the day.

  13. well I thought it was funny... a couple of other shots from 150km this afternoon dodging some nasty storm cells that were wandering around the area this was a biggie, mouving south east and starting to generate it's own wnd patterns in front of it, exactly where I was when I took this shot...ooops... and this was as close as I wanted to get. Don't get me wrong, these are not tropical storms and there's no rotation or other tornado like phenomena but they do generate locally storm force winds and dump huge amounts of water so you really don't want to be in one on a bike. Having stopped for the pic right in the path of it I then legged it, unfortunately home was also right in it's path and I got a bit wet in the last 5km as the leading edge caught up with me. I managed to get in the house about 5 minutes befre it really let loose and boy did it dump some water. For about 10 minutes, the water was standing about 2 inches deep in the yard and you couldn't see across the road. Short lived but intense is how I would describe it. I've just now ( hours later) been out to put the bin out and there's a lot of branches and stuff all over the road and a tree down a bit further along, so it looks like I did right to run away.

  15. Had a great time early this morning at the local school as the snow crew (3 of us) tried to get through the drifts and into the school. I shoveled emergency exits all day, but the strong winds were filling it back in as fast as I could shovel it. So we cancelled school for the day. Gonna get back at it tomorrow morning and try to open by 8:00 AM. Great sunrise today!

  17. Well I fitted the electrical connectors and fired up the halo on the new headlight, I also modified the mount so the existing headlight rim fits better. These were the spade connectors on the headlight and the bike. These are the new connectors. Here is how it looks.

  18. Because I've just renewed the domain name for this site for another year! So is this another year of making your life complete.......or is it another year of degrading, disgusting, and cringingly awful behaviour? Probably the latter, but we've got to take what we can get! I only started this forum because I couldn't take any more Facebutt shit during the first lockdown, and I didn't think the place would last beyond 3 months quite frankly! Even @Tym had doubts when I first mentioned the idea to him because of the dominance of social media. It really is an uphill battle because FB has killed so many forums off! So I'm really surprised we're still here considering the utter mindless shit that gets posted by you subhuman neanderthals. I suppose the only thing we had in our favour was that no other forum wants you lot! It's not been an easy year with most of us restricted from riding in way or another through most of the period......but nevertheless, The Beast Lives On!

  19. I, for one, think we are headed in the same direction as before in forums from a few years ago. All threads are fusing into the same conversation, with the same jokes and banter regardless of topic. Makes a real mess of it when you show up and see all threads discussing the same things, I've had two people comment this to me, take it as you will. In my small experience of different forums, only 4 or 5, this is the most clicky ever as even welcome threads turn into inside jokes in a few posts. Consider how many members register, and how many post a single "hello" and introduce themselves.

  22. Glad you like it Rich.......as I said, it's impossible to be a perfect fit in all ways for every member! Because we're all different people. But everybody has the option to influence the direction of the place by what they post......so I hope all of you will get involved and help us to improve.

  23. We're up over 36 inches / 92cm of snow now and the plow guy showed up to try to dig us out, but it's coming down too fast. He's gonna try again tomorrow. Sure looks pretty though!

  25. Sorry I’ve misled you thinking about it. The initial service was at 750klms and the oil was changed. At the 5k service it was fine and stayed in until I had it serviced at 11k. I should’ve paid more attention when I was at school. ?

  26. Exactly......I go out to ride.....not to meet people! You don't go out in your car and drive in groups meeting up with other car drivers in cafes.

  29. Yeah if you saw the battering the Himmy’s we rode on one trip got you’d be amazed they kept going, we all were! I think one of their saving graces (which also makes them weighty) is that a lot of the parts are steel, no snappy aluminium so a lot of it simply bends back.

  30. I must say that when I saw the engine oil from my recent 10,000klm service I was pleasantly surprised. Spoke to the mechanic and he reckons that RE engines are very well built. Some of the other parts of the bike may be a bit shonky but hey, it’s a cheap bike.

  40. Nice work Ian, even though your thread has diverged onto the subject of Phil's teeth I think the headlight looks ace, I've used those type of waterproof connectors on lots of bikes, they're very good if a little fiddly to work with.

  41. I'm counting down the days now (13 to go) until we can back out for a ride but also slightly fearful about mixing with other people. I can see a lot of solo rides ahead and I certainly can't see any way I'll be going to France again this year.

  42. Portugal just stopped it too, on hour ago or whatever time it was when I was starting my nice bottle of red wine. Which is a shame, because the current index of vaccine related problems / covid death rate with the same age population gives the vaccine use a huge advantage. I expect some other pharmaceutical company has just made a better lobby effort in some key european decision leading countries and now we're all following like sheep with no proper evidence to back our decisions. It's 90% politics(economic lobbying) / 10% healthcare

  44. Rationally I understand that, but I am used to being a 1 minute walk from a bakery, or 10 minute walk from a small supermarket. The thought of being stuck because of snow in a house that is 20 or 30 minutes away from groceries when the weather is clear would make me want to create a doomsday pantry
