Abandoned railway station and abandoned farm buildings in Caniles! However, the real purpose was to try and find a way into the abandoned sugar factory there.....it's been closed since 1972. The complex is huge and still contains a lot of the old machinery......I've seen pics of what it looks like inside and it's amazing. I walked round the perimeter walls and it's totally sealed......in my younger days I could have scaled the wall, but that ship has sailed now. But I ain't giving up......I know somebody who got in there so I'm going to try and find out how. In the meantime, here's a short vid and a few pics! The Sugar Factory is the first shot!6 points

nononononononno.... Biscuit comes from the French "bis" meaning "2nd" or " again" and "Cuit" meaning "cooked" so by definition a "biscuit" is cooked twice. Legally ( and not a lot of people know this... ) the difference between a biscuit and a cake or pudding ( to be fair, this is english law) is that a biscuit is hard, and goes soft when stale and a cake or pudding is soft and goes hard when stale. ? now you can't say you never learn anything useful on here!5 points

Good thinking Rich! You're young enough to scale the wall and you may be able to find a door you can unlock for us old people! But that's presuming you survive the boat trip with @Bruce5 points

I think logic and people's behaviour are two things that are unrelated at the moment. At a basic level people need to feel they have control, for lack of a better word, over something, anything in their lives and it can be the smallest thing. For some it is their house, or their job, or just how their closet is organized, but they need to feel that they are in command of the situation. Perhaps this is all he has to control and feels the need to do so in strange ways? But logic has left most I feel, long ago.4 points

Good Friday i had a day out on the trails, took a few photos but just don't have it in me to do a ride report it takes so long, this is the first trail called Strata Florida a notorious trail for being wet, these are photos of every crossing of the river and some of the unavoidable puddles on the route and the remains of strata Florida abbey at the end. a good day to have my first real ride in over a year out for 11½ hours and covered just under 260 miles the old dog ran perfect even through the water3 points

only cos they always ease lockdown too soon and everybody goes apeshit and sets it all off again! there was an interesting quote doing the rounds a while back, something along the lines of " your grandfaters generation suffered the depredation of world war and endured the hardships of being drafted, forced separations, kill or be killed, the horrer of the trenches and all that war entailed, followed by years of rationing and hardship to rebuild their country. You are being asked to stay home on the sofa infront of the telly with your loved ones AND YOU CAN'T EVEN FUCKING MANAGE THAT! It boils my piss. there I said it.3 points

ahhhh, another beautiful day in Spain. Very nice ride! ? It amazes me how well things are preserved in that climate. Something just that old around here would be a pile of moss, ferns and berry bushes in no time.3 points

Statewide Mask mandate has been lifted for our county and all is pretty much back to normal for us. More urban parts of the State still have some restrictions, but none out here in the boonies.3 points

Sofia's bike has a nice seating position, and is quite comfortable and neutral. I have trouble with the lack of steering lock because I've always had traillies that can turn on a dime, but that's it. It also weighs the same as a Tiger 800 but is way lower.3 points

to Beaune to stock up on tins of tuna, mackerel, sardines, fish soup, and various other delicacies from "La Belle Iloise" https://www.labelleiloise.fr/en/information/the-cannery-1 As I am to be in lockdown with the animals children I will need to feed them I suppose and tins of fish with rice, or pasta, or spuds, is about the limit of my culinary skills. Besides, I like fish but live too far from the sea for anything to be truly fresh by the time it gets here... I'd planned to ride anyway today so adapted my ride to swing by Beaune and pick up a haul of canned fish. fuel first Have you read "Clochmerle"? this made me think of it. A monument to the local dead of the first war when the french troops still wore bright blue uniforms. Rare to see one still coloured "Blessed be the cheesemakers" Epoisses has a well preserved chateau fortress that is still privately owned and in the same family since 1661 which is sufficiently rare in France to be worthy of note, as most of them changed hands with the revolution in 1790summat. The very pointy extremeties of the castle walls is typical of castles designed by Vauban who was the first person to figure out that a fort based on an exaggerated star floorplan allowed all of the walls to be swept by fire from at least one other he was an incredible guy and hugely important in French history. stopped her for Lunch and took a leaf out of Bobo neleg's book of lunch by having sarnies and a flask of tea ( how very english of me!) by the time I got to Beaune, which is a aealthy and pretentios place heaving with porche cayennes andBMWx6s and audi convertibles, and got what I wanted from a mindnumblingly dense shop assistant I needed to push a bit to get home before curfew so didn't stop much on the way back except once to remove the thermal liner from my jacket and have another swig of tea As per usual, I outran the gps and got home with half an hour to spare... about 320 km in all. ?2 points

Most XR400's are a peach to start, mine never gave me any trouble except when I forget to follow one of the three or four steps while it's cold for it's first start in months. Not following those easy steps and then having to kick for 5 minutes is a great way to warm up in a freezing morning, too ... - ignition on and fuel open, increase tick-over a smidge and close choke - decompression open and throttle open, and kick through 2 or 3 times - decompession open and throttle closed, kick 2 or 3 times - find tdc, raise the pedal and kick all the way through, job done, open choke and adjust tick over On that same day it will easily start first or second kick every time, unless you drop it when riding and shut the engine laying over (which you should!), then it's best you just take your helmet off and enjoy the fresh air for a bit (great chance to smoke if you like to ), and then it´ll start first kick. I don't ride it often, I like that it is more reliable on the trail after being left for 1 year stopped than anything modern with a small battery and race derived high engine compression. But the comfort of the button sure would be nice if on a long trip or indeed on those days you try to start it with the ignition off and then it's gym time!2 points

I totally agree with you there Pedro. I mainly rode XR's when I had DR350's and the trail of the XR was much steeper in comparison to the Suzuki. The only reason so many DR350's sold in the UK Over the XR was when it got an electric start. I will never understand why Honda didn't put an electric boot on the 400 ?2 points

Plumbing done, other than my stop cock leaking, another bloody job to sort but as everywhere's closed it'll have to wait. Prep the bikes for MOT today and maybe a little ride if time allows. Nice seeing Bath again Bob. Walked miles and miles there with daughter. We looked at house prices there too, can't imagine they've come down at all.2 points

Happy Easter you filthy animals. Got a lot of roasting and baking stuff to get on with today so necessary to lubricate the day with plenty of wine. What time is it acceptable to start on the vino? I’m thinking 11am ?2 points

I’m with Boboneleg on this, those tyres aren’t up to much. I also still have the stock tyres on the bike and a better set waiting to go on. Not done for the same reasons as you but they’ll be going on now, thanks for the warning ?2 points

It's a classic ' front end washout ' where you have no ' side knobs ' on the tyre to give that direction and stability in loose stuff.2 points

We all like a little lay down once in a while Have you thought about a more aggresive front tyre ? it would help you steer better on that sort of terrain. That was a classic front-end washout.2 points
