So today I decided to get over the bridge and invade Wales, well just slightly as I would be in and out of the border for this trip. It were a bit nippy when I left at 08.00 at 1C but the heated grips were on and at least it wasn't windy. Down the M4 and across the Severn Bridge and bypassed Chepstow and took the B4293 to Monmouth, fuckmine look at the shit on this road............ Passed through Monmouth and up past the Rockfield Studios where Dave Edmunds used to do his thing.................... Had a quick stop at Skenfrith Castle, sorry about the shit photo but the sun was really strong by now and it was turning into a glorious day........... Moved on up the road towards Grosmont and nearly hit a mother duck waddling up the road with her ducklings , I missed them but stopped to get a photo but by time I'd walked down the road they'd dissapeared throught the hedge. Instead I took a photo of mummy sheep and her lambs in the field , please refrain from getting a hard-on now Pete I carried on up to Peterchurch and then went east , crossing back into England and Herefordshire which is home to some of the finest cider apple orchards anywhere........ I made my way to Hoarwithy which is litteraly on the border as the river Wye is the border here between Wales and England. I popped into Tresseck campsite as my mate was there in his motorhome and was rewarded with a bacon sarnie.............4 points

So on down some more gorgeous backroads and across this glorious common.................... Mr Pheasant wasn't too pleased by my arrival.............. I came across a handwriiten sign further down the road and went to investigate. Fawley Chapel, I can't really find out much about it but it looked old and the village only had about 4-5 houses including the farm............. I made my way down through the Forest of Dean but didn't stop to take any photos as it was rammed with mountain bikers and I spent most of my time trying to pass them. Back across the old Severn Bridge to England where I took a photo on my GPS, I have no idea why it came out like that ? Was it doing an impression of 'Galloping Gertie' ? Or was I speeding ? It wasn't me officer, that's my mates GPS4 points

Prince Philip was a motorcyclist, so I found this week. Shoulnd surprise us that was the case, he was passionate about anything motorised. Its a mark of who he was that he could have chosen any vehicle to carry his coffin and he chose the Defender, the no fuss, no messing, just simply working vehicle from farmers to Marines. I have always been a great fan of Prince Philip, from his humour to his dedication to everything he did. Coming from a broken family myself, with many ups and downs, total unpredictability and tough love, I related to the hardening of a childs spirit into the "get on with the job" approach no matter what. At the end of the day, what really matters is how good we were to others while we lived and how big is the legacy we leave behind. He sure did a good job, I wish I could be 1/10 as good. God Save the Queen!3 points

Went for a ride on Bagheera today. It was sunny and unseasonably warm already. ? They had just put down some fresh gravel and the grader was out working, getting the roads ready for the logging trucks. This all meant the gravel was thick, dry and loose.....super slippery and DUSTY!!!! I'm working on a short video from the day, but here is an example of the dust...2 points

Talking of abandoned places I really want to go back and have a gander in one the student nursing accommodations we had. Is was a beautiful mansion built by a philanthropist for use as an orphanage. We were the last cohort to use it finishing in 1997. The govt then got into a row with the locals about using it as a home for paedophiles and its been left to slowly derelict since. Its still covered by hospital security staff but that doesn’t stop it rotting. It turned up on a few ‘abandoned places’ websites a while back, these pics are a good 5-7 years old, dread to think what it looks like now. Such a waste and quite sad if you knew how alive and loved it was.2 points

TLDR- Not a lot to see here, you’re better off reading the Baja thread, thats what I’m doing next ? This ride report is the most lacking you’ll likely ever see under ‘Ride Report’s but its not my fault honest.. well maybe it is but I feel innocent. The day started well, I pulled the blinds to see the sun shining through the window and even though my inadequate phone doesn’t show it in the pic I can easily see Wales across the water, even the wind turbines slowly turning. This is unheard of early morn because even on the sunniest days the sea mist takes time to clear and holds the temp down, often until midday. Not sure about the ‘pano’ setting on the phone, it seems to make the central focal point of the photo the cesspit, so here you go a pic of the top of the cesspit, you’re welcome. I checked the forecast and it was very promising. Skiving is now firmly on the cards. This type of weather which I love always gives me grief on the attire front because in the sun its lovely and warm, out of the sun its still only 6 degrees. Taking into account the wind chill on the motorway I plumb for the subzero skimobile suit- not a wise choice ? Mr Slowly says he’s going to come along and we decide to turn it in to a test run for the longer days in the saddle on the LEJOG trip end of May. Seeing how long it takes before aches turn fun into pain, what the timings of preemptive breaks will be, getting Mr SCM familiar with using sat nav while riding, figuring out what works when we ride together over longer distances and any bike changes that might be needed. Easy peasy. Whacked together a chunky chilli in the slow cooker so the ingrates dont bother me at lunch time because “Im hunnnngreee” made a large flask of tea n some sarnies and feeling like some multi tasking genius who’s won the lottery we head off to the Wye Valley. But priorities n all that so first a wee dap up the motorway for breakfast at Lockside. Not biker breakfast prices but to hell with it, this is the first time we’ve eaten out in over a year. If you’re ever in Bristol and want to flash the cash on your brekky this is the place to go. Odd location but classy enough to serve Bloody Mary’s with your fry up! This is where my ride report goes down the pan. I review the helmet cam footage eagerly anticipating something worth of seeing only to discover that in-spite of spending a lifetime deciding its optimum positioning (skyline perfectly horizontal, what I’m looking at dead centre of the frame, helmet encroachment minimised) I hadn’t realised just how not upright I am on the bike so I have a lot of footage of tarmac and my speedo (which is not something I can post on a public forum ?). It just doesn’t adjust up or down. A schoolboy error maybe but they dont mention that in their sodding fitting video on youtube! We head over the bridge where I do my best impression of a flip top lid in the hope of getting at least one bit of footage to put on here but in the interests of not closing the bridge with an accident only a complete moron would cause I give up. I’m navigating quite badly and miss both opportunities to make it onto the A466. Where we went next is a mystery to me but it was sunny and felt great to be over the bridge again at last so who cares. Stop to rejig the sat nav and have a great ride over to Usk, then Monmouth and back down through the Wye Valley before heading over to Frome until the sun refused to reappear from behind the clouds and we headed home again. Ooh exciting a pic at the petrol station cos my husband is enamoured with his new helmet- me not so much but of course I said its lovely! ? The only ride report worthy pic taken from the “ABSOLUTELY NO PARKING, you will be clamped” sign just before Tintern Abbey. The risks I take for you ? The cloud cover that refused to break just outside Bath despite the ‘sunny all day’ forecast ? And home again. A little icing on the cake to discover the miniature weeping Cherry Blossom tree we planted last November for one of our dogs burial (yes we were that sad about it) has against the odds grown and already produced its first little blossom. Distance- not that far 150 miles but a lot of B roads which is exactly what LEJOG will consist of and out for about for 7 hours. A good first long ride together celebrated with beer and chunky chilli. All in all an excellent skive. A bonus item- while we were fuelling up I watched Mr SCM automatically stop talking and his eyes swivelling about as soon as he heard a motorbike engine, long gone are the days of him saying to me “you’re not listening are you?”.... because he is now too ... gone man, solid gone... ? Dunno why this pics here twice, tried removing it but it wont let me.. TECH SUPPORT HELP.....1 point

I really like the Dunlop Trailmax Missions on my bike. On my third or fourth set now. Great mileage and they're not overly pricey (at least not here). They work well enough on dirt and don't hop around or hum too much on tarmac.1 point

I figured that much about China. A shame as the place is magical. Maybe one day I will go with a guide just to visit some places I am very interested in there. Tajikistan is just another world within our world and so foreign to me. The landscape is unimaginable and the lack of humans or anything of the sort is very alluring to me. The place just calls to me, it is one of those things that can be hard to explain. Mongolia should be on my list too. ?1 point

I’m surprised it wasnt handed over to them but its probably a bit far gone for their budget now. Just had a look on ‘28 days later’ and its no longer salvageable. Floors have fallen though and its thoroughly rotten. Shame to let a beautiful grade II listed building end up that way. If anyone likes abandoned places 28 days later has some good ones on there. Is there a 28 days later type of website for Spain?1 point

Considering I have not had the opportunity to be far from home in awhile, it is very hard to pick one dream trip at the moment. Soooo... I am going to bend the rules a bit and pick my top 5. Please forgive my indulgence. #5 - Tajikistan ?? #4 - China ?? (Without a guide/chaperone, which I am not sure is allowed) #3 - Scotland ??????? #2 - Peru ?? #1 - Across my own beautiful country, Canada, coast to coast to coast, so the saying goes! ???1 point

Not anymore! Heyho, we were lucky enough to catch the tail end of an ideology some employers had that you look after your staff. Similar to the military, accommodation was provided, housekeepers kept the place working and changed the linen and you worked all the unreasonable hours necessary whilst doing precisely what you were told when you were told to do it ? Why they couldn’t find another use for it I dont really understand.1 point

It’s all on the pricey side but tastes great (as it should at that price) and is perfectly cooked. Off set against not eating out for a year it was trivial, like being on holiday. Ask me again in a weeks time where to go for breakfast and I’ll be eyeing up the prices with a sharp intake of breath followed by “HOW MUCH?!?!” but yesterday it was worth every penny ?1 point

The trans sibierien, Vladivostok - Moscow has been my dream trip since I was about 6. originally wanted to do the train ride but once I got riding I've wanted to do it by bike. The dream is not dead, but it gets a litle less likely with each passing season and then I came across some aussi dude who rode it as part of Sydney to London, alone, at 70 something and the lights go back on... more realistically, I have a fully planned route for a trip visiting all the capital cities of the schengen area. 21 cities 30 days 10900km +/- 3500€ budget 'soon as I can sell a child or 2 ... ?1 point
