Today I drove to Galicia for a business meeting, and thought of taking a couple of pictures of a part of Spain completely different than what appears on reports from our members living in Southern drier Spain: Spain in the distance Driving from Orense to Lugo and back: On top of the road you see on the previous picture, from where I took the picture, I found a memorial saying "in memory of deceased bikers", the previous part is harder to translate as it means "a breath to the sky", or something like a blast to the sky, or to the heavens. There, a drive report4 points

Looking through some pictures I noticed my foot hovering over the brake pedal while riding the Tail of the Dragon in North Carolina, trail braking, using front or rear brakes or both going into a corner is a great way to stabilise the bike and increase turn in, on heavy cruisers like mine rear brake alone is best, sports bikes work best with both or front only and trail bikes definitely front only on tarmac. With longer bikes you gain some pivotal force as well as extra loading on the front, with other bikes it is more about loading the front tyre and stopping any head shake from developing. You can use it right up to the apex of the turn but you need to have fully released the brake by then. It is a technique well worth learning. Here endeth the lesson.3 points

So today marked the day the Portuguese plate was fitted to the bike! By me, with the assistance of @Pedro that from a distance, via the phone, knew exactly where the 3 screws were and guided me along the task. How does he know these things is a mystery to me!! And because I did the job, no its is not straight!! No problem for me, I am very crooked myself, so we match! I have mixed feelings about this. It is not with easy for me the transition to Portugal and its paradoxes of social injustice, I am always in fear of what can happen here and for which I have no protection, like not being able to have full comprehensive insurance. Also my speeding habits will have to be kept under control a lot more!! Its also another tie cut with my previous life . I am happy to move on, very happy actually, I kept the best things from that time, the best people and the lessons, so a new road is being traveled and it has been, so far, a lot better then I could have ever imagined!! The new plate, philosophically, in its essence means : Accept and Let Go!! Goodbye Germany, hello Portugal!! It will start its life with a round trip of Portugal, and fingers crossed will not hit anything in sight, specially not @Pedro white elephant!!!3 points

In the world at large today, everything is somebody else's fault, nobody accepts responsibility for anything, be it politicians, companies, drivers, school teachers or parents, whatever goes wrong is always the fault of somebody else, at all professional levels. if the professionals refuse to take responsability for their own decisions or shortcomings then you can't expect the moronic amoebas and bottom feeders nourished by an incessant supply of media effluent and mindless televised drivel to man up and accept responsability for their own failings. In the absence of any logical or credible alternative, they simply make something up, however implausible and in this domain there is a stunning ability to deny all logical or intelligent argument ( or any scientefic or tangible proof for that matter) simply on the grounds that it doesn't suit their purpose.2 points

What I could really do with is you popping round to explain that to my employers. they don't seem capable of comprehending that either they find me an office job, or I will shortly suffer catastrophic and definitive mechanical rupture ( back, shoulders, knees or hips). I have now requested, in writing, twice, a meeting with them to discuss possible solutions. I'm still waiting.2 points

Apparently I know as much as you do about your riding, from what I remember you do exactly what you are saying, but I thought you were trying to embarass me by suddenly accelerating into a corner, it’s like riding behind someone with motorcycling tourette’s2 points

Many many years ago a woman used to come in regularly to my work's front desk and say she was being spied on by 'MFI'. We think she meant MI5, but she could have believed that a furniture company were after her of course. One visit she got a bit out of her box and the police were called. As she was gently dragged away she shouted out to one of my friends, 'Tracy, Tracy, tell Cliff Richard I've been arrested!' I also know people that used to read the Sunday Sport and believed because what was written was in a news paper it had to be true. This included, but was not limited to, the story about a plane being found on the moon.2 points

Why do you say that?! You are the last person I can imagine chasing anyone with a shovel! It strikes me your super power is in approaching things softly, not with force. Embrace it, its a great quality! Like the Queen said about the tragedy of 9/11, "Grief is the price you pay for Love" . Dogs teach us that Love is always worth it and also loyalty no matter what! They are amazing teachers and you are caring for your dog in the best way possible, not sleeping to stay with her ans seating there in silence is magical and difficult in equal measure. Well done!!2 points

The way I treat it is like with a car, you have a total envelope of available force to apply, or grip, and you can distribute it between applying it from the front or rear by braking or accelerating, or from side to side with cornering but not both at 100% at the same time. In this way, trailbraking is letting go of as much brake as you progressively need in order to pass that force over to the cornering side. I understand this might be explained in the best way but it makes sense in my mind ...1 point

Christ, that's nearly a month for x ray results! this year I have had , cardiac scan, thoracic x-ray, shoulder scan, shoulder x ray and echography of right hand. ALL results available to me and copied to my GP within 48hrs ( the thoracic and cardiec stuff was via the ICU so normal, the rest was 24hrs except for the shoulder x ray which was 48, the hand ecography results took 15 minutes... I know the french system is faaaaaar from perfect but it sounds like the NHS in the UK has given up the struggle!1 point

Great shots Pedro! I'm always amazed how green Galicia and Asturias are......course they get a lot more rain than we do. And for @Sir Fallsalot and @Specs, Galicians are also classed as Celts and participate in the annual Celtic Festival.1 point

Not if they can help it, but it’s ok to see the poor nurses and they have to take blood give you your diabetes check and everything else, doesn’t matter if they catch covid obviously as long as the doc is ok.1 point

I had intended to have a ride somewhere on Thursday but a friend thought he’d go on Saturday so a change of plan. Transpired that he didn’t want to go too far and do some nearby lanes, that I didn’t really fancy. Eventually got out late morning after making sure that I had deballasted sufficiently as most of the public khazis would be closed due to the lurgy. A very important issue these days. The only plan I had was west so thought I’d avoid the hordes on the Beacons and get there quickly, as it was a late start, along the M4 then turn off somewhere. I just saw a place name and headed towards it until somewhere else caught my eye. As seems to be the norm for me lately, didn’t stop other than for a few snaps when I was in the quieter hills. Fortunately the roads were fairly quiet earlier on because I suppose many were in front of the box watching some funeral. I usually hear my first cuckoo of the year at this spot, but nothing Just over 250 miles so happy that I can still do some miles. I think that the reluctance to take photos has something to do with the effort it seems to take me to get off and on the bike!1 point

So today I decided to get over the bridge and invade Wales, well just slightly as I would be in and out of the border for this trip. It were a bit nippy when I left at 08.00 at 1C but the heated grips were on and at least it wasn't windy. Down the M4 and across the Severn Bridge and bypassed Chepstow and took the B4293 to Monmouth, fuckmine look at the shit on this road............ Passed through Monmouth and up past the Rockfield Studios where Dave Edmunds used to do his thing.................... Had a quick stop at Skenfrith Castle, sorry about the shit photo but the sun was really strong by now and it was turning into a glorious day........... Moved on up the road towards Grosmont and nearly hit a mother duck waddling up the road with her ducklings , I missed them but stopped to get a photo but by time I'd walked down the road they'd dissapeared throught the hedge. Instead I took a photo of mummy sheep and her lambs in the field , please refrain from getting a hard-on now Pete I carried on up to Peterchurch and then went east , crossing back into England and Herefordshire which is home to some of the finest cider apple orchards anywhere........ I made my way to Hoarwithy which is litteraly on the border as the river Wye is the border here between Wales and England. I popped into Tresseck campsite as my mate was there in his motorhome and was rewarded with a bacon sarnie.............1 point

I had 5 and have lost 3 recently. Its so painful I dont think Ill have another dog. The last one got so thin before she went she was having raw feed with a slice of chopped streaky bacon, a dollop of smooth pate, a heaped tablespoon of weight gain powder and 3 drops of cannnabis oil. I haven’t been able to eat bacon since!! ? The CBD oil did a remarkable job. Its worth considering if your old dog is arthritic. Works exceptionally well for arthritis. She started running again a week after she started that stuff. My other half has back and neck pain from decades of front row rugby and found it impossible to sleep through the night even with amitriptyline, now he doesnt even need it. Anyway heres a link to the dog rescue that sells the good stuff, I’m sure they’ll be a Canadian equivalent. https://www.simply-cbd.co.uk1 point

Same here.....ours are 14 and 15. At one time we were up to 6.......these are the final 2 left.....both rescues!1 point

Thanks Pete. ? It was a crazy busy week and I am also living the life of an old dog owner. Sometimes my sleep and routine come 2nd, as we try to make life as comfortable as possible for my old girl. This past week was a hard one for her, but she keeps on going.1 point
