They also refer t it as optical zoom. I have a digital camera i bought many years ago its pretty good but not having the patience to use it properly i just had it set on point and shoot then phone cameras got better and that's all i use now. Was looking to get a new camera as the picture quality has jumped miles since the one i got. But i could get some good photos when i took the time to set it up better than the phone especially with the zoom it has. The phone doesn't capture the light as good as a camera These are a few photos i took while messing about with it, not the best but much better than the phone. Christ I've had o go back to 2008 haven't used it in a while And this is the advantage of the zoom 10x on this one This castle is in the trees in the above photo4 points

if you're looking specifically at zoom capacities, most codern cameras ( especially compacts but some Bridge models as well) have a mechanical zoom and also a digital zoom, for good quality you want as much mechanical zoom as possible rather than digital zoom, which deteriorates detail quality. That's what I was told by a professional when I was looking at compact cameras. Other than that I am clueless4 points

This little ducks plumage was superb, the pictures in no way do the beautiful blue and green metallics flashing away in the sunshine any justice. It was in excellent condition This one stood bolt upright for sometime plotting revenge on two boy racers who’s very noisy exhaust ruffled it’s feathers. Try as I might I just couldn’t get a good pic of this duck but it’s was sweet and had nice markings so I’m including it anyway.4 points

These birds out at Chew Valley lake are very friendly and looked happy after a long day of being fed by the flocks of visitors who come to stare. A magic window appears on a Sunday after 6/7pm when everyone just goes home. The roads are lovely and empty and it’s easy to get close to things you want to see. I apologise for the quality of these pics, its finally tipped me over into wanting to get a reasonable camera and learning what all that iso, f’s, aperture shutter speed stuff does cos with a decent camera and/or skill some of these would have been so much better. This swan seem to be putting on a show4 points

Stopped to say hello to these fellers This one was giving me the eye Had a little more off this one Stopped to have a look at the church in St Nicholas nice to see a lot of the new graves there are of people who died in their 80's and 90's It looks a bit odd because i had to take a panoramic to fit it all in And this is the war memorial just across the green from the church And down to the ehh Downs where they use this to transmit the shit we have on TV And another nice easy lane Onto Wenvoe to look at the next couple of lanes i wanted to check out all nice and easy with no bloody gates Hard to believe this is just outside the big city Cardiff A bit rocky down here Into Llancarfan another beautiful village i chickened out at this ford it looked bloody deep And this one looked easy but it was like riding on ice concrete covered in slime Stopped for a drink and the local plod to check me out when a scene from quadrophenia past by mods everywhere i snapped these when they pulled in for fuel I would have chased after them and kicked them off but i was going this way Found this place in Boverton whata waste i tried to get in but it was a bit too public for me to jump over the fence Had to cut my ride short after the last lane ther was a big log i had to squeeze past and new my footrest would hit it so took my foot off but didn't expect it to catch my gear leaver After that i could only select first and neutral so started limping home but first was soooo slow pulled over to see if i could sort it. While lying on the floor somebody stopped on a Harley it was someone that recognised me from work and of all the people to stop it had to be him. He bought his Harley about a year ago and when he told me i said to him don't expect me to stop if i see you broken down on the side of the road which he had great pleasure in reminding me what a cunt I bent it enough with the little tools i had to get it selecting all the gears so got home ok4 points

Decided to go to the vale of Glamorgan for a run this afternoon not far from me and just to check out some lanes i haven't ridden in years First lane i wanted to check out was just off a place called Bynsadler nice easy lane starts by crossing the M4 And then followed by a nice easy dirt track Next is in Bonvilston a grass track soft in places, easy enough today but can be quite slippery when wet This one is in the same area there's big money down this way you can tell when your driveway looks like this3 points

Of course budget is important, but a photographer friend once told me, it is also how a camera feels in your hands. If you don't feel comfortable with it when you pick it up that is not a good start. You had mentioned a bridge camera, a good place to start. They are always very friendly to use and will get you started. If you find you are looking at a bridge camera on the higher price end, then also look at entry level DSLR's and mirrorless cameras. Those will give you the option to use multiple lens down the road. Maybe you want a larger zoom lens or a macro lens later on. The mirrorless cameras are really nice for travelling. They are light and fun to use. Most also record a nice quality video as well. The cameras these days are easy to learn and have many modes to help you in different conditions. Have fun and let us know what you decide on.3 points

I went to the Sammy Miller museum a couple of years ago. Brilliant place, loved it, definitely going back. It was almost empty (deliberately chose a quiet weekday time) and there was an old guy who kept appearing just slightly off to one side. I didn’t think much of it until we left the building and my friend said you know that guy who was eavesdropping, that was Sammy Miller. Ive thought about it many times since, he was definitely available to chat to and I didn’t bloody recognise him. So annoyed with myself, what an idiot, I was in the Sammy Miller museum with Sammy Miller, had the opportunity to chat to the legend himself and missed it.... I console myself that the things I was saying were extremely complimentary, I understand why he was smiling at me now, at the time I thought I’d just attracted a lunatic He enjoyed listening to me standing in front of his ENORMOUS trophy cabinet raving on about how unbelievable it was and how talented he must be cos it just didn’t seem possible to have so many. He must have competed non stop and won everything, really remarkable.3 points

Lastly a couple of attempts at from the cockpit pic which failed so spectacularly it was abandoned (phone refused to focus off the gauges) so I got off the bike to take them. Wish Id cleaned my drop down sun visor before riding into this sunset, it was that fierce low sun, the sort that requires a retinal check up after facing The undulating fields at Ubley always tickle me, they look like the sort of place Hobbits should live.3 points

I had a sneak preview the day before these hit the showroom. Knew a mechanic working for the local, Norwich, stealer. Had a sit on etc. Like Fred said, one Beemer I could own. Although one of my mates has just got himself a new GS and that looks nice too but to much hard earned for me.3 points

I think its a sign of senility that he rode through that chit. My diagNose's is Pre-mature dementia, the signs are muddy butt, clear to me.3 points

He was a good rider him and his mate on a triumph scrambler kept up with me on my 650 all day, when i was talking too him he said he was watching me closely and if my wheels left the ground he had to jam on the anchors pretty damn quick or he was going to be in pain3 points

thanks @Sir Fallsalot I meant OPTICAL zoom, not mechanical, but I just couldn't think of the word for it. Brain dead having started back to work today after another 4 week furlough ( that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it! )2 points

I'd say @Grasshopper's Ride is the best person for this. But I've seen a lot of recommendations for the Sony Cyber-shot WX350......they're about €170 here.2 points

Couldn't turn round Tym.....otherwise I would have. Anybody who chooses to ride through shit like that needs psychiatric treatment.2 points

You kept the bike upright n didn’t break anything, under the circumstances I’d count that as a win.2 points

Yes looking at cameras has led to the looking at tank bags which I dont like but if its not easy to carry and easily accessible I’ll soon go off the idea and itll get relegated to the ‘useful if you can be bothered pile’1 point
