I have been planning a couple of longer trips, 3 or 4 days, but am not sure anymore how many hours I can ride comfortably in a day having not done any longer trips since the problems with shoulder and now knees. So despite the weather forcast being shyte and our region being on yellow alert for storms I decided to see how long I could last. I had heard tell of a road near Reims that was once a race track, and the stands have been left intact along the side of the road. I saw it on the telly a couple of weeks ago so though I might go have a butchers: Reims, and most of the Champagne region is on the Marne river plain so is obiously strewn with cemeterys and memorials of the first war and the battle of the Marne ( i did a ride report from Chateau Thierry and the american cemeteries and monument a few years ago) so, this being kind of my pet subject, I had to visit this, the National Monument to the 1st battle of the Marne ( sept 1914, with the advancing Germans just 30 miles from Paris, Marechal Joffre ordered his retreating 6th army to turn around and attack. The BEF on his flank did the same 24hrs later and the german advance was stopped and 5 days later was in general retreat) a small British cemetery nearby I also rode past a huge French military cemetary and an Americain one also but it was pissing down with rain so I didn't stop. The weather cleared again and as the sun came out I found a lovely quiet spot to eat my sarnies, in a village called "Oyes" the whole time I sat there eating and reading my book, about half an hour I guess, not a single car came past...lovely! Moving on, I crossed the Seine at Romilly and found the old race circuit pit lane and stands at "Gueux" just west of Reims being a Sunday there were a few people about as it's obviously a meeting place for the local petrol heads the grandstand opposite I went on Into Reims for petrol and rode home stopping a number of time to shelter form the heavier rainstorms that came through, they don't last long but they drop a huge amount of water on you and you can go from dry road to 3 inches of standing water in under a minute, so I prefer to pull over and shelter for 5 or 10 minutes if the opportunity presents itself, as it did here in a derelict Service station which I had to document for @XTreme I did try the door but it was locked. all in all 450km and 7 hours including stops, I could probably do another hour or even 2 after a longer break so i'm pleased to find I can manage so long and can now plan accordingly.4 points

I wonder if I could get away with 'working from home' for a week while simultaneously spending it on a Greek island with decent wi-fi. I'll bet some wanker would call an emergency team meeting that required actually physically being there.4 points

Ive used my CRF250 Rally to got to France twice, the first time I only used it as my DR650 was out of commision. I thought it would be underpowered but absolutey not, stick to the side roads and trails and it's bloody ace. Those sort of roads are soooooooo much better that route national or autoroutes in France anyway, there is so much more to see. I wouldn't hesistate to use it to ride to Spain or Italy.4 points

I have not been to a football match since 1969, when Mansfield Town thrashed West Ham 3:0 in the FA Cup. I got a kicking after the game.3 points

Well according to 99% of the Welsh nation you HAVE to be born with rugby ball in your hands or be able to sing like Tom Jones. So, when you're ready let's hear it . You can decide between you who's going to sing for us first ................3 points

Well that is sort of true. The vaccination gives your body’s immune system a memory of what the unwanted virus looks like so when the real deal turns up your immune systems bouncers are ready to go. A side effect of this in people with a reasonable immune response is the virus is wiped out before it gets a hold or to the shedding stage which is where you are shedding diseased cells and can infect other people. The shedding timing is different in different diseases. So by their very nature all immunisations cut down on disease transmission. This is how the herd immunity effect works, it helps to protect the unvaccinated because it becomes difficult for the virus to transmit and that gives protection to the morons who dont want to get vaccinated. So yes someone can have a vaccination and still catch a disease and pass it on its just at a vastly reduced rate. Its not something they want to broadcast at the moment because its not useful for compliance with mask wearing or crowd control before they have enough people jabbed.3 points

If you mean the UK, that's too expensive. They've wacked all the prices up because they have a captive holiday audience for a while. Just seen a bloke in the paper who reckons they wanted £71,000 for a week in a 5 bed holiday home in Cornwall in August. He's off to Yorkshire instead now.2 points

No I don't! No interest whatsoever! The only sport I've ever followed (besides motorcycle related) is Boxing. I even got up as a young kid in the middle of the night to watch Clay (as he was then) "beat" Sonny Liston with the phantom punch!2 points

Fred's exactly the same as me in those respects then! @Sir Fallsalot.......I guess you're used to the bewildered look you get from people (usually English) when you say you're not interested in Rugby? They seem to think we were all born with a rugby ball in our hands!2 points

My buddy Todd, (one of the guys that went with me on the California trip earlier this year), came to our house this weekend and brought his bike along. Plan is to do some light off road riding over next couple of days. We had as stop by the local liquor store to but some beers and booze for his friends back home in Missouri. Tipsy's Liquor has the biggest beer selection ever; two beer caves and 60 coolers! Todd got some rare beers for his bud's - one cost $31 per bottle! I mean, I like beer, but not at $31 per bottle....1 point
