Saturday, club run up Angeles Crest Highway (look it up - local squid run for Los Angeles) to Lake Arrowhead for lunch. First thing we saw was a body on the highway, covered and surrounded by Highway Patrol. Found out later a bicyclist climbing up the mountain must have expired. Makes for a sober ride. some fine classics at the meetup spot. After lunch, a spirited ride back over the Crest, and down Upper Big Tjunga (one of my favorites in that area) and out and down to civilization. Trying to find the most curves we could. Then, Sunday, another friend was leading a group ride for Aether Apparel and back up the Crest we went: Newcomb's Ranch was busy. Still trying to figure out why it closed and the land is up for sale. Trying to get the club to chip in $6k each to buy it! Would make for a great clubhouse, BNB, restaurant, shop, etc! Sunday's ride included some offroading along the myriad of forest service roads in the area. Kind of hard to grasp that we are about 15 miles from around 12 million people! It was a long, hot day on the trails. But lots of fun riding new roads and finding new camping options. Woke up this a.m. to proof its Monday: Couldnt run over that with the old tire. had to pick it up with the one that has just 50 miles on it!4 points

fukmine, how much?! I have 3 kids, my parents are in the uk and Madame Moon's parents were never in a fit state health wise to have any one of them, even for a weekend. We both work full time though Madame was allowed to work half time for a couple of years. We paid a child minder as there was no creche or association in the area. I can't remember exactly how much we paid nut it was nothing like that much and then we got part of it back in childcare allowance and it was all deductible from income tax.3 points

My wife was made redundant 3 years before her retirement date..........the firm were she worked went into administration, so no redundancy, just the government minimum redundancy.....£2000 for 15 years work. She signed on, with her still being under 65 years old.........and after 16 weeks was told "you no longer have to sign on every fortnight", she asked why, to be told ", you have had your entitlement!!!!!......no more ££££. So had to learn to live on just my wage, average bring home £1200 per month!!. We/she applied for whatever we thought we could, but everything we tried to claim for, it was always the same "you are just over the limit" for whatever we tried to claims for. In actual fact we are slightly better off now with both of our pensions, my pit pension and a small private pension. While 4 of our (same age as us) neighbours have a motobility car, pay very little rent or council tax.........us fook all.......so I know how @Richzx6r feels.3 points

It's not tax dodging........the business pays tax. And it enables her to pay into the Pension system here so at some point she would be eligible for that.2 points

And that is why I'll always be working......with the business under the wife's name!2 points

We currently live 250 miles from our relatives who could help out, due to living costs its much doubtful that we could go back to that area though something we are giving some thought to as if we did she could work part time aswell unlike at the moment2 points
-
Is it even viable for her to go back what with sky high childcare costs n all that? When I asked about childcare at the hospital trust I worked for they said “it’s £50 per day per child, you do get a discount on the second child so it would be £75 a day but we don’t have any places available” I said I can’t afford that on nurses pay to which they replied “Well it’s not for you then is it” ?!?! That was over 15 years ago so maybe things have improved, can’t imagine their prices now. They then ran advertising on the radio for trained staff (cos they were desperate) stating they had childcare facilities factually correct but bullshit cos anyone lower than Consultant level couldn’t afford it! So hoping you have amenable relatives?2 points

Dear Mr Powell, Thank you for your recent email. Much as he would like to, the Archbishop is unable to respond personally and in detail to all the hundreds of emails and letters that he receives, and so I have been asked to reply to you on his behalf. I was very sorry to read of your concerns in this matter and I appreciate the sentiments which prompted you to write. Whilst it is of course understandable you would want to write to the Archbishop on this matter, the day-to-day running of the Cathedral is solely the responsibility of the Dean and Chapter of Canterbury Cathedral, and the Archbishop cannot and does not have the ability to intervene in the running of the Cathedral and its visitor charges. Therefore, I would advise you to raise you concerns directly with the Dean of Canterbury Cathedral. This email is not intended to indicate any lack of concern, only to point out those more able to assist you and provide a suitable response. Thank you again for taking the time to write to the Archbishop on this matter and please be assured of our prayers and good wishes. Yours sincerely, Dominic Goodall Dominic Goodall | Correspondence Manager to the Archbishop of Canterbury Lambeth Palace, London SE1 7JU | | www.archbishopofcanterbury.org Switchboard: 020 7898 1200 |2 points

That’s the plan, to go back to the days when the majority of people are dead within two years of retiring. The guy in charge of raising retirement ages retired early with a fat golden handshake....1 point

Yeah it seems we have been in similar situations, im currently on only 3 days a week though that is due to change next wheen so I'll be back up to 5 days a wee which is around 1500 quid a month albeit paid weekly which isn't the best id prefer monthly pay so everything goes out at the same time and then I can budget the rest as desired1 point
