Well, this bottle is a doG send, i needed a third bottle for my trilogy of holloween terror at sea, gunna stick a skulls head to this one, ballast it down so it floats with the skull just above water, and have another funeral service for the poor sod inside. Win win for everyone! Baby Fetus, Captain Turkey, and now The tomb of the unknown Sailor. What are you doing for holloween this year?5 points

Kinda against my better judgement, but I'm gonna squeeze in one more trip between snow storms this coming week. 4,000 miles back east, then south and returning to Colorado via Texas (for the warmth and a stop at the Big Texan in Amarillo). Hope to miss the snow here but should be good once east of the Mississippi River. Headed out Wednesday morning as soon as it gets warm enough.4 points

Looking for a salary note I made a few months back and have since lost (I want a rise), a drawn out search uprooted this document buried deep in my personal documents. Back at the turn of the century when we all had our own desk and PC I used to have my PC on top of the desk. Everyone else had theirs on the floor where they sucked in all the fluff and crap and whenever they had to check cables or connect anything they would crawl about on the floor and you would hear the gentle bonk of head on wood and the creak of knees and backs when they finally emerged. My boss kept telling me to move it and I would just ignore him. Then the boss of my boss told me I had to move it. I explained why I liked it where it was and asked why I had to change its location, he said because I had been told to and that was an end of it. I asked what would make him change his mind. He replied that nothing short of a Papal decree would change his mind (he was a good Irish Catholic and a big bastard as well). Challenge accepted I thought. I checked out the Vatican website and found that the then Pope had letters to various groups of people on there. I harvested a letterhead and saw the general style and knocked up what I think was a pretty good version of a decree. As explained in my Yen Stories thread, I was mostly known as Motorhead then, hence the reference in the text. I printed it out, popped it in a nice envelope and using a red wax road marking crayon, I sealed it using a bit of ribbon and a foreign coin from my holidays. This then got posted in with the general mail in the mail room. I was allowed to keep my PC where it was, the big fella took the joke in good heart.4 points

The nice thing is that once you’re in Austria then so much is within spitting distance. A very easy days ride. The Germans love their scenic drives. So there’s the alpine route, the romantic route. The wine route and so on. The Austrians have a lot of toll routes most of which are closed to ‘traffic’ so tend to be quiet out of season. Some of the passes are the same. Unsuitable for a lot of vehicles. So aren’t used at all by “traffic” then next door you have Italy and Slovenia. Slovenia being a particular favourite of mine. Tuscany isn’t too far away either. Nor is Liguria. And Aosta. The entire region north of and around Garda is lovely too as well as the foothills down towards Venice. the other thing that can turn out to be very important. The alps often act as a barrier to weather.. so it might be awful. Wet and horrible on the north side… but just travel 40 miles south and it’s like someone opened an oven door. An endless blue sky.4 points

Hoping to kick off in the next 10 days. Having to leave arrangements until the very last minute as commitments mean the date in mind next week could get pushed back but rough ideas are starting to come together and even if there are delays this will be executed soon. Thinking to catch the ferry from Plymouth (Portsmouth is also an option) to Santander. According to Google the most direct route is then 8hrs 45mins to the Andalucian coast. I’m not in any rush so I’m going to allow 3 days riding for that, meaning we can meander via the most enjoyable roads n soak it up. Taking the Himalayan (awesome friggin bike so that’s a given also the RE Continental… ouch ). Have committed to recording some of it for my boys so I should hopefully have some stuff to post… although as someone who doesn’t even like having their photo taken that’ll be ‘a challenge’ There’s definitely more of a winging it feel to this than usual! Don’t want to miss the opportunity to ask for ideas or opinions though so let’s hear ‘em3 points

Im not sure he should be allowed to join as his bike doesn't have a top box. but, as a possible plus point, he doesn't have a van. and he does occasionally get about... occasionally. without van. on his bike. with no van.3 points

That's some sort of squid isn't it. You must have terrible trouble getting bike gear to fit. Put everything you will want on the ferry in one place so you can grab it easily as soon as you have secured your bikes because we weren't allowed back to the bikes after we left port. This meant me paying through the nose for sea sickness tablets and wishing I had my book and more snacks with me. Having said that I just watched this bloke do a trip to Spain and eventually Tenerife and he was allowed back to his vehicle (UK/France though). Worth watching for places to stay in Spain, they had some good results, especially as it was only a few weeks ago so still current.3 points

Its usually in the description. and might be described as a TV room or games room/meeting room. They usually show photos of the main building and if there is a covered patio then that's fairly obvious. In Ireland nearly every campsite has what is called a 'campers kitchen' which was a similar kind of idea.. kitchen cum dining room for when the rain arrives. The place at Killarney we stayed at was really well set up in that regard. In fact it has to be one of the best campsites Ive ever stayed at on this side of the North Sea. Just the perfect place for a motorcycle tour. When I plan these trip s I generally sort out places to base myself at and then look at the campsites in the area and decide what looks best for us. its not a difficult task. But, this was also the main point. or at least one of them of my solo trip to the dolomites last year. I also wanted to check out the region called the "Bavarian Forest" which is over near the Czech border.. and although it was nice, it wasn't nice enough to be worth the journey getting there. I also wanted a better look at Cortina d'Ampezzo, especially the supermarket. (which wasn't very good to be honest) and so, that's why I reckon its best to base ourselves close to the border in Austria. with an Aldi a 16 minute walk. (Austrian Aldi is called Hofer) or just call in as we return from a day out. stock up on beer and ice!! The campsite at Zell is very nice too.. expensive. but that's ok just for a night or two. Its just so handy being only 15 miles from the Glockner Toll Platz. with fuel stops en route. Might even treat myself to one of their breakfasts... with a view.3 points

If anyone is interested this is my plan, which I will be sending to the group in due course. I usually wait for winter to set in when everyone is a bit fed up as it gives them all something to look forward to.2 points

I meant that you get so hyper alert and hysterical that your imagination gives you a nudge into interpreting the situation your own way. There's a saying here that translates to something like "I don't believe in witches, but they are out there"2 points

Im a coeliac which is such a pain in the arse I wont even start to bore you with it but the upside is I always have food on me. A comprehensive store of calorie dense ambient foods that can also easily be added to at any garage or supermarket so getting fed isnt something I worry about too much2 points

Enjoy. Hope you have more luck with food than we did. Seemed to pick days where no one wanted to cook.2 points
