Not very long. 17 years. I only wanted to try the Africa Twin because I liked the idea of the DCT, as its something very different. I kept the GS because I didn't think I would want to 'keep' the Twin, but within a few weeks I stopped riding the GS completely, then put it on SORN and finally let it go, just a few weeks ago actually. Im not really one for chopping and changing... I have had various second bikes, but none of them lasted more than 2 years, before I got bored of them and got rid as they weren't as good as the GS was. (for my purposes)6 points

A few years back we went up to Squires cafe in early March for a meet up in remembrance of a young lad we knew who'd been killed in an accident on his bike. The run up there was cold, but ok. On the way back, on the A1 just north of Grantham it sleeted really hard and it was like marbles all over the road. I was in front and Mandy was following on her Bonneville. The temperature drop was really sudden. My visor steamed up and it was literally like riding on marbles. Visibility dropped to nearly nothing too. I really couldn't see much either in front or behind. It was like that for about 10 miles. Once I'd got through it I realised that Mandy wasn't behind me any more. I stopped and checked my phone and had a missed call from her. I called her back and she said that her bike had stopped and she had to try to push it off the road, which wasn't easy because it was up a slight gradient and the road was covered with these beads of sleet/snow. Fortunately she wasn't too far from an exit off the A1 and a guy in a car had stopped and helped her push the bike to safety. I said that the best bet was for me to carry on for home and then pick up some tools and head back up in the car to sort her bike out. On my way back up she called to say that she had managed to get the bike started and was heading back. I'm guessing that the carbs had iced up due to the sudden temperature drop and whilst the bike was stationary the heat from the engine had thawed them out. But, riding on that busy road on what felt like riding on marbles, with near zero visibility and then losing Mandy wasn't the most pleasant experience on the bike!4 points

That’s a great idea and I’m really glad I didn’t think of it. Buy a bike I don’t want to reuse wheels that are the wrong size. Super. but seriously buying these particular wheels was definitely the right decision. For me. I’ve never been the type to do things by halves. Buy once. Cry once.4 points

Went to Stafford to meet up with the other Himalayan ride women. Thought it would be a good idea that as Id been up since 2am and didnt want to flake out after one G&T to drink Cola cola, forgot how sensitive to caffeine I am, its like rocket fuel, we got to bed at 6am this morning. Ive pretty much sabotaged enjoying any of the preparation for Spain now, wot a moron, well worth it though2 points

But they are bloody good wheels and he'd get most of that back if he got rid of the bike and sold the wheels separate2 points

yes, of course I could have waited for a couple of years until Honda added them to the bike. plus an extra 50cc and a wizz-bang full colour screen on the dash. but then I would have had to pay upwards of an extra £6000 for the privilege. and the bike would have suited me less as they made it lower. I wiped out my savings for other bits and bobs as well as the cash I had left over from the bank loan... but in the scheme of things, Its turned out to be quite a bargain.2 points

Yes mines a 2016 and one of the things i'd like is to go is tubeless but don't use the bike enough to justify the cost2 points

£2.5 and no lottery win required. Im rather good at saving dontcha know. Also I got a surprise discount on the bike, I was originally quoted £12000 and ended up paying rather less. (a lot less - winter discount) luggage and a few other bits and bobs were put on the back burner and I splashed out on the wheels. My bike came with tubes as standard.. the only thing I didn't like about the bike and they had to go. I was going for Alpina.. but in the end found I could afford these. just. just after fitting them. I have a waiting list of owners hoping (vainly) that I will sell the bike and then sell the wheels. to them. NOT A CHANCE!!!2 points

One springs to mind and also one I've never admitted to...until now. Was on a trip to Germany in 2016 and left early on a Saturday morning to head back to the UK from Neuerburg on my own, leaving the others at the hotel. Leaving the town, there were roadworks so I stopped at the red light and then went on the green as usual. Thing is, the roadworks lane was on the left and when I set off I stayed in that lane and headed down the road totally forgetting where I was until a van came towards me flashing it's lights and beeping it's horn. In a split second I realised I was on the wrong side of the road and moved the bike across to the right so quickly I ended up riding on a grass verge and nearly binned it before pulling over and spending a minute nearly throwing up with the shock. Anyway, got back to Calais in less than 4 hours so the day turned out alright in the end2 points

Screens were all torn out and lots of shit lying in the yards, crappy low income housing here. But could be really nice if it was worth fixing them - which it isn't. A fix would costs $75,000 and then you'd have a nice house worth $50,000.1 point

Sun came out and temps went up to 25c......so it was time to get the Beemer out. I followed the canal paths and even did a couple of trails to access them! The recent storms had strewn rocks all over the paths..... But being such a Rugged Individualist I didn't let that put me off! Here's the view from the highest point of the canal paths...... There's even water flowing in the canal! This bridge carries the water over the top of the canal path..... When I got back to town it was fill the tank up and take it through the Jet Wash......it had about two months dust on it! Not that many miles done today because it's fairly low speed stuff.......but at least I bit the bullet and got out there! And did a Ride Report too! I'm fucking carrying you Casuals!1 point

Kick a window open and walk in. We used to go up the fire escapes when I was a kid and go in that way. They look to be boarded up now though.1 point

Tomorrow, Saturday, is an off the bike day as we look at some real estate in the area. Might get some pics of that but won't bore you with them. Sunday I'm headed south for 500 miles to Tennessee.1 point
