While waiting for the temps to get over 40, we took a little jaunt down the hill to look at the Colorado River canyons. I know, the old codger doesnt understand the concept of selfies and was holding the phone wrong. Tires changed, we headed off for 3Step. On the way, we had to look at another canyon. Horseshoe Bend Right below the lookout. Zoom in and you can see boats and tents... Our route took us thru Monument Valley... (Forrest Gump, most western movies) somehow, the "short" ride to 3Step turned into an all day ride. What first showed as about 120 miles on the GPS, quickly became about 260 when you used the roads <G>. As approached Monticell0 (SW of 3Step) we noticed that the clouds in the pic above were getting thicker and darker. We never got rain of any measure, but the snow storm we rode thru the last few miles was interesting in the dark! <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/8eOsdPgTdVM" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>7 points

The day was supposed to be a short ride into 3Step Hideaway, an offroad focused BNB. Totally off the grid, with cabins and teepees for staying in. Given the short day, we changed tires on my bike, going for some knobbies. One thing we discovered is that it is easier to break the bead on the old tire if you let all the air out first..... I dont carry many tools, etc on my bike on these trips. I just make sure our buddy, Dennis Godwin is along. He even carries spare bike parts! No, really. We are all trying to get the old tire off here....6 points

I have way too much planned for this weekend, but it will fun trying to get everything done.... It's a cool but beautiful day today, so I think I will take the Honda for a spin. The roads are still a mess from the storm so this should be interesting. I have to say though, my street riding in bad road conditions, has gotten so much better now that I have been riding on dirt for almost 2 years. What are a few million pine needles compared to baby heads!5 points

Funny enough i washed the guts of the helmet i use trail riding this week, i have another for the non sweaty stuff. I usually change them when their totally fucked. I've almost pushed my spine out my arsehole at least half a dozen times this year alone by hitting my head on a low branches trail riding so there's no way i could afford to change it every time it gets a bump like they say you should.5 points

Today I'm running a marathon to Snowdon and back, tomorrow I'm swimming the English channel while blowing raspberries at the French trawlermen and on Sunday I'll be scaling the north face of the Eiger5 points

Hate coms. Have had them since near the beginning and hate the interruption. Honestly who cant wait an hour for a call back? Yes business wise the first to respond gets the business but theres a line to be drawn between peace n quiet and the quality of service you can provide once youve had a rest. Used them reluctantly but religiously while Mr G was new to riding but not once on our ride to Southern Spain, just agreed when n how to stop if we got split up and everything was dandy.. nice n quiet n dandy. So no not a fan. I like the silence being occasionally disturbed by the engine noise and the quiet lulls inbetween.3 points

An Intercom is something i'm interested in but wont buy because music has a huge influence on the way i ride i just cant afford to lose my licence because a good track comes on For me its got to be heated grips its the difference between staying out or going home. I remember the first time i got to use them it was on the XR riding a mountain road in freezing fog i could see my mate in front reaching back to his silencer to warm his hand just as i was turning my heated grips to the low setting as my hands were getting a bit hot3 points

I think its a chrome bore so its just piston and rings and being a 2 stroke its half a days work but i shall fix it when its broke3 points

I don't necessarily change my helmets every five years, mainly because I have more than one. The thought of leaving it 5 YEARS before cleaning it though is making me cringe. I clean mine at least twice a year, more if I've been somewhere hot .3 points

I change mine when the thing starts to move at speed because the inside has got looser or if the visor is badly scratched. The price of visors/pinlock etc makes it easier to get a new lid by the time they get older. My previous crash hat lasted from about 2015 til 2020, I reckon that's about 60-80,000 miles worth. That was a little loose and had a scratched visor so I bought the same one again. I probably drop them quite a few times because I'm clumsy, but I'm wearing it to keep my head warm and dry, my eyes from watering and to avoid a ticket from the Old Bill, not for protection as such unless it's from flies, wasps and birds which is usually what hits my head at speed.3 points

Well I went to State Schools same as you.....so I didn't have any advantages because we went through exactly the same system in the same era. Unfortunately you came out of the other end a dull cunt! Why was that?3 points

Yes service is all in hours run. The book says new piston and rings at 60 hours i'm on 42 hours and its 3 months old, I'm sticking to that old motto if it ain't broke don't fix it3 points

I bought my helmet January 2016.......so today I thought it was about time I took out all the padding and lining to give it a good wash! It was looking a bit grimy it has to be said! Anyway, I inspected the inside to see if everything looked OK and I found the sticker saying when it was made......March 2012! So it was nearly 4 years old when I bought it, and in 4 months time it'll be 10 years old! Yet they say to change your helmet every 5 years! Bollocks to that! Logically, if this lead time between build and the actual sale is consistent then it means that you need to replace your helmet virtually as soon as you've bought it! How often do you replace yours?2 points

Sat Nav/GPS was something I wasn't particulary interested in years ago but now I wouldn't be without one. By using the GPS I have found so many cool roads/trails that would be much harder to find just using a map. I still carry a map with me for a larger overview but the GPS pinpoints exactly where you are and the quickest or the best route to where you're going.2 points

That's how i'm treating it, its not having a hard life and only opened it up a handful of times it pulls so good at low revs i just short shift through the box very rarely do i need more than 50% throttle2 points

Bike is due for a service that is happening next week, I think it has used just a hint of oil since the last service, which would be a first time for it. Forecast is rain stormy on the weekend so I'll spend it mostly reading a book and keeping my dog company with the ocasional breaks for play time. Also, plan on having a couple talks with my dad, he's not been having the best of luck and has just been diagnosed with LSA, a sort of degenerative sclerosis, and is rightly quite scared.2 points
