  1. well Monsieur Macron has kicked up a fuckin storm here re covid, he said that he wanted to piss off the non vaccinated... I dunno what the fuss is about, he only dared to say what the majority are thinking, that's how democracy is supposed to work isn't it? the latest french figures ( which concur with my experience of friends and colleagues who have or have had the omicron variant despite being vaccinated) is that the vaccine doesn't stop you getting it but apart from about 1or 2 percent of cases, if your vaccines are up to date then it's o worse than a common cold or a mild dose of flu, doesn't stop you working or going about life as normal. which means that 90 odd% of the country are facing lockdown, restrictions, and even bankruptcy in order to protect the 10 ish% who refuse to be vaccinated. This is NOT how democracy is supposed to work. yes I'm pissed off with itand its about time someone uped and told the antivaccins that they can fuck off and die.

  7. We can all do with a change from time to time Caroline.......in our case all we really want to do is see our grandchildren at last. The eldest one is four this year! But the combination of their mother being batshit crazy, the wife's osteoarthritis and being unable to travel any distance, then Covid coming along on top of all that has meant it's never happened. And obviously I have a lot of work commitments, along with personal commitments due to the wife's limited mobility as well. I can't go off anywhere on the bike because the wife's condition dictates that I need to be on hand all the time. Because I'm 8 years older than her she always thought she'd be the one eventually caring for me in our dotage......but it didn't turn out that way. We're fine where we live in terms of the area and the house etc, but there's other things we want to do as well......but we can't. If we wanted to move to NL to be near our son there (there's no way we'd live in Poland).......well we can't do that either! So it gets frustrating because these are all things we can't control. But we keep going!

  10. Dunno why thats made me a bit sad. You sound like something new is in order. Is possible to get someone to care for your animals and find a place with good wifi for a weekend away to have a look at something you’ve always fancied seeing? Or even just to ride your bike somewhere different. Or maybe thats not your sort of thing. Mind you when Rich and Six turn up and I arrive under the guise of having a cuppa n blow six away with a bazooka (sorry six I promised) you’ll wish you’d stuck with the same old shit

  14. old folk not having their flu vaccine does not endanger the entire country's economy or oblige the rest of the population to stay at home to avoid catching it. I used the money argument because the vast majority of political level decisions are based solely on this criteria, morality or ethics doesn't bear any weight today when there are millions in question. Untill the covid problem is resolved, most recreational activities are stopped or vastly restricted ( but I take your point though am not scholar enough to make a coherent or non hypocrital response) there are many obligatory vaccinations that are , or were, obligatory in order to eradicate a world wide desease ( polio, german measles etc) 5 million French over 14's are not vaccinated. that's about 8,percent of the population. if you remove the million or so who can't be vaccinated for medically justifiable reasons then it's even less. it just seems unjustifiable that the country is being destroyed in the name of freedom of choice for 8 % of the population. I do like the TNT suggestion though...

  16. I was more thinking you and your wife go some where with decent broadband and hire a scoot or summink but I can see you have a lot of factors to manage to make that happen that makes you wonder if its really worth the bother Circumstances cutting you off from your family is pretty rough. I can only think that six is onto something, hows about taking up drugs and prozzies? You’ve never done any drugs, they might suit you. Bet youd make a cracking pimp, the IT booking system would be awesome and the girls would love you.

  18. Back in the times when borders were things you could cross, I did a border run to Myanmar, which was fantastic road trip involving the delights of pleased nobody but myself, a dead body (not so great), and being able to swim from one country to the other (for someone who grew up in Australia, a million miles from anywhere, this is a radical notion). Here is the looooooong version: https://bikehedonia.wordpress.com/2022/01/03/before-times/ And here is the short version:

  32. I understand the sentiment but its not the antivaxers who cause the lockdowns and its knock on effects, its the folk who govern over you. Why go out of your way to try and piss off the antivaxers? Smacks of flexing a bit too far and punishing the majority in the process. Antivaxers have had far far too much attention and Macron is stoking their righteous fire. Why? Antivaxers remind me of bad dogs that have learnt any attention is better than none, its time to ignore it, they’ll come to heel or disappear. They’ve made their choice (personally I believe in the right to govern your own body) so let them get on with it. If they die thats.. their choice same as its been with every other vaccine for well over 100 years. Just now its a political football and as long as everyone’s focussed on Covid theyre not looking at any other problems including their wonderful leaders. So I suppose Im agreeing with you entirely but from a different perspective. Macron (any leader) should leave people to make up their own minds even if that mind is dull and let them get on with the consequences.

  33. Amaury is out! had a good start this morning and was running in position 57 having made up more time on the leaders, riding hard he rode into the dust of the quad he was catching up to and thinks he hit a step or a lip which threw him in the air, came down hard and broke an ankle, he had to crawl some distance back to the bike ( that reminds me of someone, eh @Tym ) in order to activate his emergemcy beacon. A helico was there within 15 minutes so he's safe, if not sound, and of course bitterly dissapointed. Yer Welshman, Hewitt is currently 126th but he hasn't finished yet.
