  2. I needed to get out today and check out another function on my GPS and to do that I needed to go off piste so I headed to Salisbury Plain. The flags were flying when I got there which is hardly surprising considering what's going on in Ukraine So I would have to stick to the perimiter path today and not venture into the bombardment area. At last we had a decent day and it wasn' that cold either although there was still a breeze. I headed up the hill from Upton Scudamore and onto the Plain......... Almost immediately I saw signs of Army activity and stopped by these guys who were parked up at a junction. I asked if it was ok to take a photo and they were fine but they didn't really answer my question when I asked them if they were on 'high alert' There were plenty of other vehicles dotted about along the route but I didn't bother any more of them. Further along I spotted a memorial which I had seen before but was too busy to stop, today I was on my own so I had plenty of time. The memorial was for a German soldier, I did a translation and I think this is what it says ; In memory of our good comrade Hunter Dirk Knoffel 3rd Parachute Hunter Battalion 313 Taken by an accident 05 September '93

  3. I rode further around the perimeter road and then stopped by the Casterley vedette post to have a coffee from my flask........... and then carried on further keeping a good eye on the red flags so as not to stray anywhere I wasn't allowed to be........... As I got down to the Bustard Inn I saw that I couldn't enter that area but then I spotted a couple of byways on the GPS that I hadn't done before. This one I shall call 'Pete's Lane ' as I know he'd just love to splash his way through those puddles ........... @Pedro check out the road tyres in the shitty conditions .................. and then all too soon it came to an end, I could go no further along here ............... So I turned around and more or less followed my way back where I had come from . I did stop here to check out this building for any DBM's looking for @XTreme but they wern't there and as didn't fancy getting a mortar flying between my ears I left

  17. Exceedingly excited to say that I now have my own website (instead of the wordpress hosted free site thing which kept running out of space for photos). Yay! It's (predictably) www.bikehedonia.com . I've even managed to put the subscribe functionality on the new website so that you can elect to be spammed with every new blog post. And (wait, there's more!) I even made BikeHedonia shirts in case anyone needs a hoodie: https://bikehedonia.creator-spring.com/ Yes, I have been hard at work getting over my horror at self-promotion, and may I please humbly thank you all here for giving me a safe space to work on this without being called a total nob. But, seriously, feedback is invited. Let me know if I messed up the website, if you don't like the shirt, if something misses the mark. Thanks - your community is appreciated.

  18. About 20 years ago I was out and about in east London with my late boss Steve. An old man, with his head down, shuffled slowly past us, his clothes dirty, tattered and creased. Steve said quietly in my ear, "See him, he used to be the hardest bastard in the whole of east London, people would cross the street to avoid him, now look at him!" I fell for that, Steve did that every time he saw an old bloke shuffling about. He also used to say "But Dad, I love him" every time he saw a particularly tattooed scruff bag as well. But the point is, you see people wander past all the time and you will never know their life story or what they have gone though most of the time. Occasionally you will get to hear a small part of their life if you get to know them better.

  21. Nice one, Bob. I used to go to Porton Down for one of my old jobs. Used to see a bit of activity around there at times! The first time I saw armed police was at the gates of the CDE, at that time the general police weren't armed!

  36. Nope But I know all the professional Youtoobers are desperate for us all to follow them on twitter as well as sign up for their U-teube channels and I'm damn certain they wouldn't bother if they didn't make money from it. there's already been a plethora of fake photos and info on farcebuke so why should twatter or slapcat or any of the other social media plateforms be any different?
