  1. Edinburgh is a fantastic city for students and the university’s are world class, it is also a very safe place.

  2. Why I would be asking for advice from you lot I have no idea, but here goes; N01 daughter has been given the opportunity to study in the UK for 6 months next year at some point. We were hoping that Warwick was oing to be an option cos I have family not too far away which is always reassuring, but she has been offered Liverpool or Edinburgh, either of which I know vey little about having only visited either of them by boat for a 24h stopover. Anybody any toughts or suggestions?

  5. It’s a great city, cultural diversity, massive amount of history, great transport links, lots of green space, quality of life, access to the highlands. It’s a very compact city, population of about 600k, you get all the resources of a capital city while it remains affordable. I wasn’t planning on staying indefinitely but can’t imagine living anywhere else now.

  7. I'd say Liverpool every time......Liverpool and Swansea have always been very close due to football for about 50 years. I get on great with Scousers cos unlike most Northern types they're not miserable, boring fuckers. Always full of personality. Strong community spirit there too.....they hate the fucking Tories and The Sun, and ran that racist grifter Yaxley-Lennon and his gang of fascists out of the city. As far as Edinburgh goes..... @Buckster's there on his gay Harley isn't he?

  8. I don't have a problem with them in that respect but remember that I'm usually on knobblies so if they bike doesn't squirm a bit I find it strange. The worst tyres are the one's that just 'let go' without warning, Michelin AC10 front springs to mind . The Mitas E-07's are quite a soft compound so they're not too bad for cornering.

  14. That's just lovely! Road tires? I'd ride * through those puddles on my TKC70s's. Those tires look like proper 50/50! *not on my own GS though, got to keep those shaft splines nice and dry except if crossing a flood to save my life

  15. I needed to get out today and check out another function on my GPS and to do that I needed to go off piste so I headed to Salisbury Plain. The flags were flying when I got there which is hardly surprising considering what's going on in Ukraine So I would have to stick to the perimiter path today and not venture into the bombardment area. At last we had a decent day and it wasn' that cold either although there was still a breeze. I headed up the hill from Upton Scudamore and onto the Plain......... Almost immediately I saw signs of Army activity and stopped by these guys who were parked up at a junction. I asked if it was ok to take a photo and they were fine but they didn't really answer my question when I asked them if they were on 'high alert' There were plenty of other vehicles dotted about along the route but I didn't bother any more of them. Further along I spotted a memorial which I had seen before but was too busy to stop, today I was on my own so I had plenty of time. The memorial was for a German soldier, I did a translation and I think this is what it says ; In memory of our good comrade Hunter Dirk Knoffel 3rd Parachute Hunter Battalion 313 Taken by an accident 05 September '93

  20. Me and Mandi visited Edinburgh when touring on the bikes. It was pissing with rain all day but the people, mostly students were great. It was also tattoo week so real busy. Our water proofs were a good talking point. Lovely place.

  21. I’ve been to Liverpool it’s full of loud fucking scousers , always shouting and swearing , nice city though and the best Football team in the world “you’ll never walk alone “

  22. I stayed in Liverpool a couple of years ago and it’s nothing like it used to be in the 80/90’s . It’s a very vibrant and cultural place nowadays. Having said all that if it was my daughter I would pick Edinburgh, like Buck says it’s a very safe city .

  25. Bet they don’t feel like 50/50 on wet roundabouts either, sometimes they feel ok if you’re just touring along happy as can be, other times they feel like they do everything poorly

  29. The first openly armed police I ever saw was at an airport, it seemed quite shocking at the time.

  30. Nice one, Bob. I used to go to Porton Down for one of my old jobs. Used to see a bit of activity around there at times! The first time I saw armed police was at the gates of the CDE, at that time the general police weren't armed!

  33. I rode further around the perimeter road and then stopped by the Casterley vedette post to have a coffee from my flask........... and then carried on further keeping a good eye on the red flags so as not to stray anywhere I wasn't allowed to be........... As I got down to the Bustard Inn I saw that I couldn't enter that area but then I spotted a couple of byways on the GPS that I hadn't done before. This one I shall call 'Pete's Lane ' as I know he'd just love to splash his way through those puddles ........... @Pedro check out the road tyres in the shitty conditions .................. and then all too soon it came to an end, I could go no further along here ............... So I turned around and more or less followed my way back where I had come from . I did stop here to check out this building for any DBM's looking for @XTreme but they wern't there and as didn't fancy getting a mortar flying between my ears I left
