I went looking for famous people today but misread the names, instead of finding Blackadder I ended up at Whiteadder Reservoir. To get there I headed to the Lammermuir Hills. Instead of taking the route I know well I headed east to the reservoir, I had seen it from a distance but wanted to see it up close, it’s a huge body of water, I was surprised just how big the reservoir was. From here I decided to head to North Berwick, I had two options, a conventional road out of the hills or a single track road, the single track looked okay so I headed that way. I saw plenty of Petes girlfriends although a lot of them looked like they could defend themselves from his advances. After about three miles the road turned into more of a track as it went through a forest, in a lot of places it was washed out completely and trees were laying on the edge, there was even this one over the track. The Glide took it all in its stride of course and eventually the track opened up and I could see the coastline of Dunbar and beyond in the distance. I headed down through Dunbar and onto the coast road towards North Berwick, on the way I passed Tantallon Castle and could see the Bass Rock in the distance. I headed down into North Berwick to my favourite chip shop and had a fish supper sat on the bike before heading back to Edinburgh.7 points

I choose this one because I'm proud of my bike and its bull terrier attitude of stopping for nothing!! Must tell Pirelli the Supercorsa can have less thread...5 points

Not many pictures, plus it was just the usual short ride for lunch at my favourite hill top cafe. It's just half an hour each way but I really like it as it's all tiny roads since i leave the house, and it's right on my backyard. Getting to the hills via some nice roads through farm lands, still quite the ugly sky today There was a a Subaru meeting of sorts going there, I usually don't notice cars much but this had quite the presence, and never having been sold in mainland Europe, two door Imprezas are very rare, don't know if it was a replica made from a normal saloon but they both had the steering on the left so at least a conversion. Looked fast and this is certainly the kind of area to drive one, shame that being a sunday cyclists were popping out of everywhere. I wasn't alone on two wheels, and plenty more decided to grab lunch here today, a lot of variety concerning bikes Big top cases everywhere, they're very practical! A really clean ZZR600, you don't see them everyday anymore As I was finishing my burger, what looked like an ewok came over from his table to ask for a taste, too late little budy! Then stopped by the Dainese outlet to pay for my new jeans, buy a case of wine, and have a dessert expresso, and home. Although the skies look weird and grey, it's 21 or 22º now in the afternoon as I'm posting this from my garden, freaky weather but nice for a lazy sunday ride.4 points

Had a good ride yesterday only one member from the TRF volunteered to ride with me which was great as the ride was more fluid, The weather was almost perfect for trail riding a bit of rain in the night to dampen the ground would have made it perfect. Didn't take many photos too busy riding just under 100 miles of back roads and green lanes These are the obstacles the farmer has been putting in the way on the byway local to me. i started making a point of riding over everything he dumps where i can just to prove a point to him The bloke i was out with had just bought this BETA 350 after having a break from bikes for many years and to be fair he was a good rider Me bike in case you all forgot what it looks like It was a bit of a squeeze past this one there were quite a few down after the recent storms but luckily most had been cleared Pump house lane again certainly got Ian sweating Luckily there was plenty of water to cool off in4 points

It's like People magazine person of the year award, by your logic once you win then that same person will be winner forever? To me it's a mix of what the bike is doing in the picture and has done in the month, the bike itself, the scenery, and the picture itself too. You do you, though, and post a low resolution picture of the bike parked between a gas station lavatory door and a dumpster on your way to buy the wife tampons, we're all alike in the eyes of the lord4 points

I rode home today, but instead of taking the 2,5 hour motorway ride I did about 100km on the motorway and then diverted onto small roads. Getting off at Coimbra I made way inland and onto the real center of Portugal, riding through Coimbra I noticed a CRF300L on display at the local Honda dealership's window but decided not to take a picture because I was both on a non stop fast lane and also didn't want to be responsible for sending @Mawsley on a killing spree amongst british Honda dealerships The sky was very weirdly grey today and all my pictures look like crap, but still here they go: Castle of Lousã, I've never been through here before but have been close by. The previous night I went on a google maps search and noticed a bit of road that looked like my kind of thing, so went for it, this was my first stop, first looking from the castle onto a small chapel: And the small castle itself, here you can also see the difference that picture framing can make, here my bike is all alone by a castle: Here is the same parking spot 10 seconds later, showing that it was a saturday and people were out and about. You can also see that Portugal has a thing for trailies as the touring bike of choice: Moving away and onto the bit of road I was keen on checking out, a last view of the castle amongst a landscape that almost swallows all things, it's steep terrain: Here's a picture I stopped to take and try to illustrate why trails are so popular here, twisty roads but look at the surface: Couldn't help myself and followed a sign pointing out of the tarmac road onto a forrest track, pretty well maintained even though it had rained the day before, with a nice view spoiled by the ugly sky. Back on tarmac: A few kms later stopped to have a look around what we call a schist village, schist is the common rock around this region and used to be used to build houses, old derelict schist villages have been fixed up and over the last 20 years made up to be tourist atractions, here I stop by one with a small house for overnight rental right by a typical restaurant. Being a saturday it was a little busy but I looked it up on google maps and was most impressed. Took the pictures as a location stamp to help me plan an overnight visit, this is an area with harsh climate and showing up in the evening, to have a warm shower and a hearty meal and then sleep in a stone house seem appealing: Back on the road and over the hills I get away from quaint villages and onto harsher terrain. I take a small detour in the form of a wind farm gravel road access to find some privacy for a moment, nice location: After 13:30 I stop for fuel (50€ worth of fuel and not even on reserve!) on a nice inland town and ask the bored but very friendly fuel station guy where to go for something to eat and he recommends a small cafe 50 meters away. Café "Chicote", meaning "whip", where a very friendly older lady apologized that they had finished their lunch menu, but could maybe offer a pork sandwich, I gladly went for it: Back on the road, and riding through the heart of the Zener region, Portugal's third most important river and a location often gladly overlooked by car and bike enthusiasts: Went away from the deep river sculptured gorges and through small villages, using narrow and slow winding roads, my kind of roads: After that the sky started to turn menacing, I wanted to get home earlyish, so made way not stopping for pictures. Took this one from the bike, as the sun ws going lower and the landscape was changing onto farmland approaching home: Got home in time for a chat with a neighbor, and a few housekeeping chores before a snack and some wine for winding down after a nice day on the bike: Was in need of some comfort food so roasted some codfish with potatoes: Really enjoyed the alternative to a fast but uninteresting motorway ride, saved money on tolls and fuel, and got a lot more riding time in exchange, good stuff! Sorry for the shity pictures today, my iPhone doesn't care for light like today4 points

I did and it came back warm enough to eat but not hot. I suspect they heated it up a little bit and who knows how long it has been sitting there. I always have my steak blue if it’s on offer but I’m suspicious that bit of steak wasn’t good enough to be served so blue. Then again seafoods the usual culprit. Hmph.3 points

Hey @XTreme, and @Slowlycatchymonkey.... You had asked where I have been lately.... The last few months have been crazy and life is unfolding quickly...... Sold our house months before we thought we would, when we had a surprise private offer on the place. The housing market here is nuts right now and in our favour for a change. That meant February was spent with meeting the buyers, meeting their families, having house inspections, etc..... Finally the deal was done at the end of February. March then turned into letting my clients know I was leaving and finding them new accountants / bookkeepers, which there is a shortage of right now. I finish up my last client next week and then I am officially retired from my profession!! In the meantime I have continued to sell everything we own, including 4 bikes, which can take some time. Thankfully the only one left is the CB500F, which should sell in the next month. On top of that I had an old friend pass away recently, which is sad, as I had hoped to visit him on my journey. My partner also just lost both his parents within a month and we are still sad from the loss of our dog in December, a bit too much death. Thankfully having a dream journey of a lifetime in front of us, has helped distract us from all the sadness. We leave at the end of April for our travels. The gear is ready and the routes are almost all planned as we head into some of the most remote places in Canada. I have had to do things like register Personal Locator Beacons so I can be rescued by the Canadian Military or Search and Rescue if I am in the middle of nowhere and dying... So I have not had a lot of time for extras and I feel bad just showing up when I can not keep up with everyone. I do miss everyone and hope to have more time to visit soon. I still would enjoy sharing my journey with everyone.3 points

What Sir Fallsalot said. It’s just the word they use for very very rare steak. The rankings go along the lines of Well done (sacrilege, seriously they don’t deserve to eat steak) medium to well done (still sacrilege) medium (really not the thing to do to good steak) rare to medium (it’s tastes alright and is probably not ordered by a pleb) rare (that’s the way to do it) blue (the best) That’ll ruffle some feathers A lot of places don’t offer blue because the steak has to be good enough quality to be eaten raw plus in this country most people were brought up with the idea all meat must be thoroughly cooked.2 points

I rode the bike.....only for about half an hour though. But it hadn't been started since the dust storm......so I had no idea how much dust was on it that I couldn't see. And I didn't want that shit baking onto the casings and pipes......so I gave it a really good washing before I started it. Glad I did.......cos there was just brown sludge running out of it.2 points

Well that’s a lot to take on board! Great news on your house being sold. That’s a key part on the rest of it falling into place which it sounds like it has owing to you making the the rest of it happen. All power to your elbow. That is a lot of loss to endure and yer you do have some great things to distract you but all the same you have my heartfelt sympathy cos that’s hard. Personal locator beacons blimey your going hardcore on this trip! I can’t wait to see your lovely photos. I don’t think anyone has a single problem with you spending your time living life and popping up if have five minutes. And update- we’re all the same irascible slightly off kilter knobheads we always were We all enjoy the photos and ride reports from folk who aren’t regular contributors don’t we. Personally I’m happy to hear from you. Missed your photos. I think what your doing is absolutely superb. Can’t wait to hear more about it when you get a minute, which sounds like with everything you have going on it might be a while!2 points

So theres the special home style haircut, the jowls of a washed up muso, the class of a pissed up slapper shitting herself at a bus stop and now a body so crepey it would be worth more as recycled paper than attached to a human being. I do love this forum, its good for the soul2 points
