Rode home today, from my parents place up north. I had sort of planned to go on a long 4 or 5 day long ride, but the weather was shit as of yesterday, drove an hour each way yesterday to visit a client and this was the scenery: Lots of accidents on a very rainy motorway which tells me Portuguese people forget how to drive at the first rain, second and third day is not so bad which means all the worse ones crash right away. Didn't fancy touring around in rainy small roads, and also was in quite a shitty mood so just came home for a few days. Took the coastal road which is a lot less interesting than the hills, but I didn't feel like 5 hours of rain and cold. At first, it seemed like nice enough weather but only a few kms into it the fog started and then the rain, my jacket needs to be treated for water repellence, which made me curse Dainese, didn't get wet as the rain was not prolonged though, but also didn't feel like making many photo stops so no ride report. Only one stop for a coffee near a very moody beach: They call this the "Atlantic Road", it's a very epic name for a shitty road, Australia coast of California this is not Stopped for lunch in a little spot that seemed promising but as I was getting set up it started to rain and three cars full of spaniards arrived, next week being Easter they all go on to invade everything. I couldn't take the noisy lot and, eating outside being unappealing, just got back on the bike and rode home closer to home for a nice snack by the river A TDM came and parked next to the GS Got back on the bike before it started to rain again, bought groceries on the way and made it home with a filthy bike, for another expresso as I write this7 points

If you ride 10km on a Vespa, does that convert to riding a normal motorcycle all the way to France for a bottle of wine?4 points

W is a vowel in Welsh. In Welsh it would be cwtsh or cwts. Used far more in South Wales. It also means a small space, as in under the stairs, to a space to keep coal, also a safe place for an animal to sleep. The last is where I believe the current version comes from. A mother clutching a child would be a safe place hence a cwtch and this has evolved into the hug thing. Originally from the French coucher according to academics, and cooche was used a century or so ago in Gloucestershire so I doubt if originally from the Welsh language, but adopted and adapted from something else. So Anglo-Welsh. Just saying like. It was interesting reading up on it!3 points

It’s a fucking tale of woe for the majority of people in the UK, just glad we left when we did. Certainly couldn’t afford to live there now and also couldn’t afford to move to Spain and take residencia now that the rules have changes after Brexit. On a brighter note I chopped the fuck out of a palm tree today using only a hand held blade. Always been useful with a blade ……….and the Himalayan is getting a thrashing tomorrow just because.2 points

It's only been sort of raining up north for a couple of days, we're still in a draught state. Right now I could do it here as it's nice, but just had a nice shower and there's no way I'm doing it now more so after a long ride when it's still hot in places.2 points

I don't even know, Pete, not today for sure. That bike is a mess and I'm not really good at cleaning it, it's more of a general wash I'm afraid Once the weather gets nice for drying it properly, yes, tomorrow or Monday2 points

I had a palm tree like that, it got eaten by Egyptian palm tree beatles, so it fell apart and I disposed of it. Now, there were hundred of palm tress starting to grow, like weeds, it was a bugger to pull them all out as they hold on way harder than normal plants. Since you cut yours down and it was innocent, lets hope that in a year there's not 50 more1 point

Assuming by the other thread and the inferred meaning I take from it, there’s nothing wrong with that during the day either… words with no vowels though, they hurt my brain. How do you even pronounce that?1 point

@boboneleg I've used that white road many times on the way to and from London road, still waiting for replies from the local council to determine its status but obviously used by farm vehicles so hardly a footpath1 point

There were some big chunks of wood lying about showing the size of the some of the trees they had to cut down, my boot is for comparison ............. It was time for another coffee so I sat on a bench, it was great vista and very quiet which suited the surroundings................ Suitably refreshed I made an assault up the the tower, you can see why this castle was built here as from the top you get a 360 degree view of the surrounding countryside.......... It was a pleasant journey back home as well down some lovely back roads made all the better by the fact that I managed to dodge several big showers and arrived home dry1 point

I agree Bob. one of the things i think is going to hit this generation the most is when they realise what they think is essential is just luxury , There's lads i work with that pay £50 a month for mobile phones that they think they must have, great when they live with their parents their in for a real shock when they eventually get to the real world, i remember when i first moved in with the wife (girlfriend then) i went through a stage of choosing to put fuel in the bike to get to work instead of buying an electric token for the meter towards the end of the week1 point

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, we're rich compared to how the kids of today will have it when they reach our ages. Some of the poor sods will be working until they're 85 the way things are going .1 point

Im not convinced there wont be. It takes time for the effects to be felt. It has to start damaging the very basic needs of food, shelter, warmth (thats considered to be clothing btw) and safety. Once enough people are in debt because they cant keep up with the repayments, repossession start, homelessness increases, death by hypothermia goes up and enough ordinary working people are in the same shitty boat thats when the anger starts feeding off itself and expands to riot level. If the government doesn’t respond swiftly with measures that salve before that point (chuck a few crumbs in the way of the peasants) then I wouldnt be at all surprised if it turns into riot level anger. Its not just pensioners who cant afford this, its the majority of the country- many that’ll be lucky to see any pension at all and they know it so its all fuel into to fire. Sadly the government is aware that they only need to behave and throw some money about 1 year before an election (they literally save up for this point) and then the twats will vote for their team again regardless.1 point
