The actual setup is still too big, for the garden anyway. Even have the (albeit half size) memory foam pillow, free many years ago with a mattress. I'll not get into mattresses though, but this setup is possibly better than my bed. I do have a foamy inflato camping mat thing as well, are you saying that's the ultimate setup then? I might dig it out. But if I try it out and it is, I might run out of room.4 points

That's just reminded me of my kids playing in the long grass out back. Looks good to me, I'd camp in that.3 points

Mr Slowlys new monitor is so large he has to look left and right to be able to see it all The current solution which looks like crap is to have one desk with the screen at the back and another in front of it with the keyboard and mouse allowing him to sit far enough back to see it all So I’ve bought this lovely chunk of walnut. It’ll mean he can have the absolute maximum amount of desk space available. Difficult to photograph lent in the hall and it’s still wrapped in plastic so doesn’t look great but I think it will work well.2 points

I'm aware of their reputation - might not be the best choice for me as I tend to ride a lot on short periods of time. That's what sold me on the S10 as you can ride it all day and just put it away - then do the same thing the next day...for months on end. It really has been a great bike as you just can't fuck it up.2 points

@Slowlycatchymonkey well I never. It was just hotting up I thought. Might start my own appliance forum with a sideline in bike touring then. I will get back to camping jabber though. I've tied a few ray mears number 3s (same as you do your shoelaces but the bight goes under the bitter end and through the rabbit) to a bit of tarp so I feel fairly confident I won't get wet, but only because we'll be following the sun. I've also bought one of them camping cots you mentioned in gymwitch's thread, I didn't realise they went so small. A few extra kilos on top of an already lump of a bike won't make any difference (or will it make all the difference?). As long as I can lash it on it'll come with. Though I might camp out in the garden for a laugh and see how good it is, the weather is bloody good.2 points

Got a burr up my ass to ride to Maine. Dunno why, just seemed like a good idea. So I talked my riding buddies Dave and his wife Debbie (R1250GS) as well as Todd (junky assed Ducati) to come along with me. 10 days and about 6,500 miles for me, 1,500 less for Dave (he lives in Indy) and Todd is in between as his lives in Columbia, Missouri. The basic route....1 point

I'm thinking about making a custom desk for my PC. Anyone else have a cool set up that works well for them? Or are you still using an old door spread atop some old crates? Post up some pics and some ideas on what you'd like to have on your desk. I need to get off my ass and make something cool. Current set up:1 point

Nice chunk of wood - walnut is one of my favorite species of wood to work with as it looks so rich when nicely finished. Made a dining table for my wife out of walnut.1 point

Too big because of pack size? The footprint looks dandy. If a slightly uncomfortable bed doesn't make you wake up groaning your back/neck/ hips hurt you probably don't need it. I just googled best camp bed for bad backs (I dont have a bad back but I thought theyre the sort of people that would have gone through every option) and a thin inflatable on top of a cot seemed to be the winner. I'd be too concerned about the drop in temperature or being eaten by bears, tents are safe as houses everyone knows bears can't undo zips or tear nylon1 point

I test rode the Exploder before getting the S10. Lovely handling bike with loads more power but the reputation wasn't good at the time, worth a punt now though.1 point

Best not to go looking Pete, its like a slow motion car crash you find it difficult to tear your attention away then somehow suddenly you’re caught up with a load of miserable buggers arguing about who caused it1 point

BTW @ReggiePezza I once got a right royal dressing down for mentioning purchasing a german washing machine and spoiling the clean lines of Motobikers trip thread so I’m bailing on the fridge talk1 point

Aah I see that’s why its a bad idea to just do the stuff you’re supposed to do cos if you just get on and do it doesn’t leave you with easy access to the good books1 point

You can’t reduce absolutely every thread down into the usual puerile twaddle.. oh wait you can1 point
