  18. Starting a ride report weeks in advance the actual thing takes place is not my style at all, I hate all the hype. However, this is more of a declaration of intentions so that I have no excuse to cower out at the last moment quoting some excuse. I have been making tiny preparations over the last few months, just to get myself in the mood. Stuff like renewing my passport, buying a phone that can manage using Moroccan data while keeping my Portuguese number active for (pretending to) work, buying a fender extender to protect the rear shock from rocks, buying a half tinted visor because the dark one is deadly at night and days get shorter in October, buying tires two months in advance, etc ... all that seems like over preparation but in fact was just me trying feel a little more in control by solving stuff when in fact I'm honestly plain scared about what I'm going to face riding out of that boat in Tangier. I've gone to the ridicule of freezing a couple of things at home, so that I have something nice and warm ready for when I return in the dark. My plan is to visit some familiar places and mix that with a bit of adventure, maybe see new places maybe a little more off the beaten path. Mountain passes are what I look forward the most regarding motorcycling, more so when they're heading to the wide open desert heat and herds of camels, in this case it's the easy familiar places that really amp up my anxiety, places where I proposed marriage and was happy, and where my heart broke and I contemplated darkness. Not sure if it's the happy places or the sad one that will challenge me. I'll be doing it alone at my own pace because that's how I deal with stuff, and because in a weird way I can't help but scratch wounds, you know it'll hurt but can't stop yourself from doing it. Today I booked a ferry ticket for the 29th September, a few things were starting to make me doubt going and finding an easy reasonable excuse for staying home working instead, so I bought the ticket and posted this so I'll be too embarrassed to not go at the last moment All that's left now is give the bike a small service, like an oil change and air filter change, and put the new tires on, and hopefully I'll be good to go. I say hopefully because I'm not really up for fixing anything on it, it's never needed anything so here's to that! My mum's 70th birthday is on the 27th, so on the 28th I'll ride to my place, pack everything nice and tidy and get in the mindset, have a nice sleep and on the 29th set off to catch a ferry that's leaving at an unreasonable 15:00 from Tarifa, since it's an adventure I'll probably miss that boat and call an hour earlier to change the ticket to one at 19:00 All in all, it'll be a grand time filled with extreme emotions, a perfectly reliable bike, twisty mountain passes shared with overloaded trucks, smells of spices wafting through street markets, and dusty boots.

  28. That was the point I was trying to make @Pedro Most people here would use a tyre shop rather than go to a motorcycle dealer. Motorcycle shops here are generally not interested in fitting tyres. I fit my own but in the past when I have used a tyre shop I generally take the wheel off myself and then let them fit the tyre/tube.

  30. Should he take it to a barber? I take mine to my mechanic or to a tire shop I’ve used for ages, they do bikes, cars, vans and trucks, alignment there works for anything from a 3 ton Iveco to an F3 racecar 140 km does seem like a lot to me, I do 30

  31. True story, every forklift driver gets addicted to this and race around the warehouse when not carrying something. Then they get on their diesel Corsa to go home with a broken heart. I should really buy another bike while they’re still proper, though!

  32. Was pretty great, basically you get a salted codfish piece, half grill it, tear it apart a bit and put it inside a clay pot with a lot of garlic and olive oil over the coals, closed for a while, and serve it with plain potatoes. Thinly cut raw onion slices are an option, I go for them always.

  40. Ya that's the feeling I'm getting from the service dep... I'm just sick of explaining myself to what the problem is... No it's not leaking now cause I double clamped the hose... We've warmed it up and pressure tested the system and no leaks... And it only leaked after a cool down period like overnight before I double clamped it...

  41. Strange Marcel, we have a 916 in today with a coolant leak. We've run it up to temperature until the fans kick in and there is no leak whatsoever. I reckon a cat has pissed on the floor of his garage

  43. I love a bit of hype, all helps to build anticipation and I like reading the prep people do. Look forward to reading and seeing it all. Sounds like it might be bitter sweet. I dunno if you are really scratching wounds or just doing something that feels like it needs to be done? I met a guy at Burgh Island once who went every year on his own. It was the hotel he and his wife went to and when she died he continued to go. He looked very sad so I asked him why he returned to a place that made him unhappy, he said he felt like he was connected to her there and even though it made him sad it was lovely to feel like she was there. I hope you get some of that too

  44. So it was a journey south to my parents to stay there overnight the night before and giving me an hours drive to the track to wake myself up as it was a 5.45am alarm and a leave at 6am. I arrived just gone 7.15am and found myself a garage and got setup alongside 5 other guys in the same garage who it turns out we're really nice guys and ranging in age from 25 or so up to 66 it turns out that the 66 year old was an ex racer a few years ago and he was on the same bike as me though his was a newer version so I decided that he was my main competition as we were in the same group and we had more than one good battle out on track throughout the day which I thoroughly enjoyed. First few sessions didn't really work out as planned though as I found out later that the baffle in the exhaust was messing with the fueling and causing a massive misfire from 8k onwards but removed it and it was a total animal for the rest of the day. I had wanted to work on alot of things but due to some pretty epic battles with mick on the other rsv it all kinda went out of the window. My main objective was to get my knee down just......because I wany that achievement not for any other reason. O did get commended on my good ability to get out of corners extremely well as I get on the power very early in the corner but still keep the apex to corner exit clean I got instruction in my 4th session to see where my main points of improvement lay and its just on the brakes I'm braking way too early but feel like I'm braking as late as I can at the moment but it's something to work on for the future days at the track. So the instructor and mick said I ride the rsv like I would a 600 in as much as I'm not afraid to get hard on the power mid corner using my body weight to hustle it where I want it to be. There was a small amount of rain in the 5th session and this session also saw my nearest miss where a bloke tried a very late lunge up the inside at Hamiltons and I had already committed to it and all I saw was a red flash on my left and a bike stood literally on its nose go straight on to the grass how I didn't collect him or vice versa I don't know there was only a couple of foot in it but mick following said I didn't even flinch and just rode like I hadn't even seen it. The rest of the day went well enough though I chose to for-go the last session as I was starting to feel abit knackered and I knew I had a 270 mile journey ahead so thought as I'd had a great day up to that point there wasn't much if anything to be gained by doing it and arrived home at around 8.30pm. All in all a great day out even if not much was really worked on or improved. Now it will be next year before I get back on track so I'll just do some bits and pieces to the rsv over the winter and get it ready for the new season starting. Pics to follow when I get some from the photographer at the track
