I always think of the bar in the Ruskin Arms when I see a fringed leather jacket. The bar was always swimming in a layer of spilt beer and anyone in such a jacket leaning their elbows on the bar whilst waiting to be served would flick beer from the tassels over people as they walked away. Google not only found a picture of the old bar top but a couple of pictures of someone who was in my class at school, Robert Threadgold, dead now, bleed on the brain or a tumour I heard. He's the one with the blonde curly hair.5 points

Rode to work this morning, had a site meeting, sprayed a bit of yellow paint about a bit and then had to go and get some software loaded at our Town Hall because our ICT department won't give me their password. Everyone is panicking about the move to our new town hall as there is no where to park, everyone has to come in by train, foot or push bike. Apparently one of our councillors was in this morning telling everyone that special bays are to be set aside for their use only in the surrounding streets. Good luck to them on that, even the illegal parking places are full up. Twas a bit chilly this morning, -1C according to the weather report, +3C according to my bike which seems to over read in all weathers compared to my Kawasaki which was spot on. I had my heated vest switched on and my 2 finger gloves on, heated grips set to half way. I had to turn them off when I hit town as I was getting a bit warm. Came home in thin motocross gloves, bike is now covered in white salt.4 points

Four weeks on and i'm just about over the flu, got my energy back and feeling good, might be because i haven't worked any overtime this week and we all got a pay rise today starting from the end of last month so all my overtime will be at the new rate. As for the weekend i have to check over the marmite wagon for the MOT next week i know there's a light out and the bonnet had defrosted a bit so its now on charge, I also have to change a headlight lamp on the wife's car and there's a light out on the daughters car and that will need the battery charged as she flattened it in the week by leaving the interior light on. For Christmas i bought the XR a new clutch so i will be changing that as well and i may actually start a bike not started one since i think the end of November.3 points

I don't know yet. The whole site is surrounded by hoarding, so can't see any nooks, crannies or squeezy spaces yet. There is an area of motorcycle parking belonging to the new hospital behind our building, but that has permit signs and is walked through constantly by the great unwashed. And by great unwashed I mean, down and outs, drug addicts, drunks, scooter riding phone thieves etc. You can see how close we are to the new hospital, that's the side of the new town hall behind the wooden hoarding. It has this side and the front which are not fenced off to me. The front is the cycle super highway, cameras watch and fine people crossing over it. There is a lift for cyclists down to the 70 cycle spaces, I am wondering how large a lift it is!!!!3 points

Got home at 03:00 last night, after going to dinner with my brother and a friend. This morning I was on the phone for an hour at 08:30, and now feeling a little tired. It seems the weather has passed and tomorrow we should see no more rain for a few days. On sunday morning I will ride south, don't know where I'll end up, if at home or somewhere, I hope it's somewhere else as I do miss being on the bike for a couple of days of moving around.3 points

Bucksters Jobie through the door reminded me of a story my dull mate told me about him and his twin brother when they were in their late teens, i don't think I've mentioned it here before but worth repeating if i have. They were in a night club in town and had been chatting to a couple of girls as you do, He said they were getting on great when the one his brother was chatting to started giving him some verbal and pissing him off. His brother said he had to go to the toilet keep the girls here until i get back, a few minutes after he got back his brother said we have to go, he said he didn't want to leave because he was getting somewhere with his girl but his brother insisted they left so after a little argument they left. When they got outside he asked whats his problem, nothing he said but when i went to the toilet i caught a turd in some toilet paper and slipped it into the girls handbag that was pissing him off3 points

Not been on the bike for a month, and I'm not sure this weekend will be any different. Weather is forecast to be around 10C and cloudy, and we've had a few days of rain so the roads are still wet. Still trying to get over this virus as well.....week 3 now! So the outlook is bleak here......but I do have a lot of work to get through to keep me busy. What about you?2 points

When I had my big accident, the attending in A&E remarked that it looked like I had a bad break as my left foot was 90° to my knee. They cut my trousers and boot off and he went pale and passed out. The nurse then told me my leg was twisted 270° and bits of bone were sticking out but the good news was my ankle looked okay.2 points

the atmosphere at home is electric at the mo, one of the twins passed her driving licence theory test missing a 100% score by just one point whilst the other one flunked it! ( lazy cow didn't think she'd need to actually work for it and learn stuff...) so she's 30€ out of pocket cos I said I'll pay for the one they pass. she's also just twigged that I'm only supplying 1 vehicle and her sister's looking like getting there first...2 points

Spares aren't a problem you can buy practically anything for then from Germany, you used to be able (haven't checked recently) to buy modern fuel injection kits to fit to the old aircooled twins, as well as upgraded alternators and many other bits. Granted probably not from BMW themselves but there is no end of specialist support for these bikes. It's all about money and how you measure the practicality of running a 30 or 40 year old aircooled twin and how much you really want to do it.2 points

I always had the feeling that when a nurse took my catheter out we are officially engaged. The old 'I'm going to count to three' routine (but pull on two).2 points

Banking bastards update before I get back to trying to catch up on all the time wasted on Barclays twats. Their official version is simply that as I hadn't updated my details they closed the account. Their story varied wildly depending on who you were talking to but a common theme was they were changing the way they ran the business accounts and as they had asked me to update my details and I had not responded they moved my money out and closed it. I believe hoping they'd never hear from me again and would keep the money as the last time I'd logged onto the main website was April last year. As they suspended access I couldn't see the latest account statements, all I could see was the money had been removed from my account and payed to 'Ntc Project' and commission payments to 'Gadbrook Park' which mean nothing to me other than a scammer had taken the money. I asked how exactly they had tried to contact me and they said they had written (utter bullshit, in fact I received a statement in the post today that goes up to the 13th Jan showing a healthy balance and no problems. If I hadn't been checking another account on their app and noticed it was missing I'd still be none the wiser. Not a phone call, letter, text or message via their banking app to say there's a problem or they're closing the account. But they will give me my money in the form of a cheque in the post, it will just take weeks! I'd guess they are shutting business accounts that are not profitable enough, when I opened it the account was far more generously structured than they are now, plus it was a dormant account apart from small savings so they chopped it. The reason the account was dormant is because Barclays fuck people over and behave poorly so we moved to Handlesbanken who charge more but behave properly. One day I'll tell you the story of the Barclays business manager who took £250,000 off Mr Slowly's dad and said "you'll be getting that back over my dead body" Had to go to court to recoup that. Then they had the bare face cheek to invite me multiple times to open another account. What absolute cunts.1 point

I think it would be fine if well looked after but that is the point really. If you were happy to balance carbs and do all the maintenance yourself don't see why not, if you were paying a dealer it could mount up. Mine was surprisingly thirsty for what is was also. I bought mine on the strength of an article I read about R65's when I was still at school, classed as sort of uncompetitive then in 1979 against the Japanese opposition. I hankered after one from that time on. Looking back I found the R100 a much better bike.1 point

Boot story............ So when I had my accident in 2001 my leg was left hanging on by a piece of skin and my work boot was still attached to the leg. Once I was out of intensive care and on the recovery ward I had a nice view of the incinerator chimney puffing away during the day. One day I was looking out of the window when a nurse came in . I asked her if that's the incinerator over there, she replied yes and asked me why I was asking. I asked if that's where they burnt my leg, she looked at me slightly worried and replied , yes I suppose so ? I said 'well that's a disgrace' , she looked slightly shocked now and was almost scared to carry on the conversation but as nurses are trained so well she said 'why do you say that' ? I was trying not to laugh now but said with a straight face 'I had a brand new work boot on my leg, they could have given it back to me before they burnt it' , she now looked very concerned but as I grinned you could see the relief come back to her face. She came over to me and said ' you wait till I've got to take your catheter out' , you won't be laughing then1 point
