  1. Been round the sons sorting a bedroom/games room. I might add he's 33 in March. Kitchen worktop fitting along with some led type cornice and some Natural wall panels. To fit this in this tight spot here I made a template out of some old skirting. Shit the price of this stuff has gone mental so didn't dare mess it up. In it's slot nice and tight. The "natural wall" is a right pain in the arse as the bars of wood are fitted to the back panel which is a thick felt with staples, so you have to miss them by taking some off the top or bottom and then re-stapling in places to keep them all together. You can guess I'm really going to enjoy the next panel as it's going on the wall with the plug point. This is the opposite wall we did at the weekend.

  4. My brother in law assemble a flat pack wardrobe in their bedroom, he was not very happy with it as the doors dragged on the carpet..........I looked at it, and noticed the plinth was on the top......he was not best pleased when I pointed out he has assembled it upside down

  5. We had it at school when I first started, I think I was about 8 before we actually got any at home. I then discovered it actually came in different bright colours and without long hairs inside most of it, unlike the brown reinforced stuff at school. When my Dad died his Ford jeep thing was sitting in the front garden and my Mum wanted it gone as it was a constant reminder of him. The problem was it had no MOT and the hooter was disconnected, for some reason the alarm would go off whilst driving and that set of the hooter. My Dad had been trying to find the cause of this when he got ill so it had never been fixed. I had no chance of solving the problem so I bolted a motorcycle hooter under the bonnet and led two wires via the battery and a fuse then into the cab. I made a plasticard box up with a bell push button in it, connected it to the hooter wires and gaffer taped it to the dashboard with the words BODGOMATIC HOOTER (PATENT PENDING) written on it in magic marker. It passed the MOT with that and I drove it to my house and kept it there for a few months, green laning in it occasionally, before selling it for my Mum.

  7. Today I have been mostly swearing at my fecking Metabo mitre saw that decided to give up the ghost just when I needed it. Pretty sure it can be fixed but didn’t have the time so had to resort to an antique that was my Dads to get the job done. Anyway fixed Little Bits bed so at least she is happy.

  11. Tym's been a close friend of mine for over 20 years......and probably the most loyal friend I've ever had. There's nothing two faced about him like some people.....he'll never do the dirty on you like so many others have. And to me that counts for a lot. Also, he's a man that literally gave up his own life to care for his elderly parents way before I knew him. And even though he's now in his mid 60's and not in good health he continues to be the sole carer for his 90 year old mother. His brothers have gone off and have had their lives and Tym has carried it all. I think that speaks volumes for the man that he is. How many of us could do the same? Of course, as Buck mentioned, he's always been a bit unstable.....I'm not denying that. God knows how many times I've had to calm him down over the years. But he's now no longer threatening to put guns in peoples' mouths, or riding across the US to shoot somebody as he used to do.....so he has mellowed somewhat. But be aware that underneath it all is a very decent guy! He's been with me on every forum that I've done, and had my back on every forum meltdown that's happened on the net. So not having Tym round has been very odd for me, and given the number of people who've asked about him, it probably is for you too. But he's his own man, and he makes his own decisions. Maybe he'll return at some point.......maybe he won't. I just don't know!

  12. Haven't had much chance to ride so far mate, I picked it up last Friday and did around 40 miles, then worked all weekend and spent what spare time I had watching the 6 nations. My youngest is being a bit full on at the moment and has a bee in her bonnett about turning our conservatory into her room. To be honest I don't mind as the conservatory itself has been a dumping room for the last two or three. years. She has been at it for days and working bleddy hard so I am duty bound to help her out. Looks like I am building her a bed base today and helping her paint it. On top of that my choir has a concert this Saturday and I have a solo part that needs practice, tis all go, so long story short I haven't ridden the CB much. Damerells have been on the phone and I have booked the CB in next Tuesday to have heated grips fitted, that was part of the deal but they didn't have the right size ones it stock so I chose to pick the CB up rather than wait. Hence why it has to go back in. don't mind thoough they have a great Cafe up there so can take the bike up have my dinner while they work on it then pop over to Newquay or Padstow for a bimble when they are finished.

  16. No pictures unfortunately. When I was about 8 or 9 I had been given a hand held telescope, the sort you see Admiral Nelson disobeying orders with. At that time we lived on the top floor of a maisonette (4 floors overall) and I used to look across the waste ground to the next town from my bedroom window. I got sick of the wobbling picture so decided what I needed was some sort of tripod. I found two large old glass coffee jars with screw top lids. Digging out my plasticine, I had loads, I stuck one jar to the window ledge. I unscrewed the lid half way and then plasticined the second jar across the lid sideways, unscrewing that one's lid halfway. Finally I plasticined the telescope to the sideways jar lid. I now had a telescope I could swivel or move up and down but stayed steady. If I had known about duct tape I would have had an easier time of it.

  20. I think that is a very good idea. I might start a shed building thread as that is my next task. Now the weather seems to be improving I want to get on with it.

  21. He’s not two faced. He’s multi-faced and that’s the problem. One minute you’re having a laugh with him and the next he’s off on one and gunning in your direction for a seemingly inexplicable reason. Personally I found him both good company and a nut job. His constant right wing gun toting hyperbole was exhausting and should you dare say anything about it he’d go stellar, that part of him is not fun or forum friendly. So he might have reserved being a good friend for you but he didn’t extend that to others he imagined had slighted him in some way by disagreeing. Having endured some of his deluded rants which mostly revolved around me somehow not being a real woman (some antiquated stay at home ladies who lunch type person) or some sort of slag I didn’t have much choice to put him on ignore. I miss his nice contributions and don’t miss the rest of it one bit.

  24. As Pete's keen to show off his DIY skills I thought a thread where you can put pics of stuff you made/are making/have fixed or rescued with a bodge would be good to look at. I don't have anything to contribute at the moment as my recent epoxy resin fix on the fridge door has just come off in Mr Slowlys hand Last upholstery thing this Friday so hopefully Ill have something to contribute then but the way it's been going I'm not so sure

  25. We have what look like the same in ours, plenty of people doing spares. Think we got ours off eBay. Do all the plastic bits, they turn to powder.

  26. Excellent. I loved plasticine. It got banned from our house as my mum kept finding it mashed into the carpet ( I was genuinely clueless about how it got there), I become apoplectic before sobbing uncontrollably so she relented. I don't think I've been that upset about anything since, well maybe Lassie going the wrong way.

  32. She will feel the heat in the summer and the cold tonight. I tried to tell her but 15 year olds won't listen. She is so obsessed with having her own room away from her sister, who is an angel in comparison. Mind you I have to give her credit she has worked her backside off sorting the conservatory as it has been a tack room/dump room for at least the last three years. We are researching repairing the blinds at the moment as some of the clips are broken. They gotta be 20 years old.

  33. I love a good bodge. Although if its a good bodge I tend to think of them as resourceful fixes, and if they're bad more of a farmer fix My epoxy resin 'fix' of the fridge handle back on last week was definitely a farmer fix, glad its out in the garage and I don't have to look at it

  34. But in the month of March I can watch the professionals at work. They are coming to (try) do the repairs on the mould/damp on the ceilings and walls, and sort out the windows too. The girl/woman who spoke to my wife and said it will cause such a mess that they will redecorate all through the bungalow, we don't have wallpaper so the job will be easier for them. Hope we ain't living in a building site for the month.

  36. Nice work! She'll boil in there in the summer won't she?! I quite fancy a thread along the lines of "What you made/making/bodged" because there's a lot of resourceful people on here doing things I think we'd all enjoy seeing. What do you think?

  37. Dunno mate, they turn over a lot of bikes there so it wouldn't surprise me if it was gone by the time I get up there next Tuesday. They had one exactly the same as mine in the showroom a couple of weeks ago, same colour same year similar miles and that one has gone. It's a very popular bike no matter how much hate they get on here, you see loads of them around.

  40. My guess is. He got a bit extreme, people put him on ignore, the lack of response to his posts annoyed him and he huffed off. Shame I liked his nice side, the pics in the sea etc but the rest of the off the wall rants not so much.
