  3. Flu/Kraken/Long Covid/Mystery Virus update! I'm feeling a bit better every day, and apart from the odd dry cough, and still sore stomach muscles I'm getting there. Just hoping it's not going to come back again as it did two weeks ago. I still tire out quite quickly, but having said that we've been like that since we had Covid in August! So at the moment it's looking like I could be out this weekend after being sidelined for 8 weeks!

  5. Granddaughter is going to take her CBT in a couple of weeks. So today she took most of my wife's bike/scoot gear (helmet, gloves, jacket (textile), trousers (textile) and boots) in preparation for the big day, her mother not very happy about it though.

  17. New bit of garden art, well old primary school project for Little Bits that has been booted out of the revamped conservatory. Lots of competitive dad stuff back in those use days. Twas a Viking study so I made her a battle axe and shield. Dunno what happened to the axe.

  19. Always wanted to get inside of this historic building that has been left empty for the past 20 years. 20. I remember when I had my R1150GS when I first came here. I ended up getting completely lost in the Sierra de Cazorla.....I hadn't seen any sign of life for about an hour. Eventually I stopped for a piss, and as I went back to the bike I thought..... "I don't know where I am, I have no map, no mobile signal, no water, and I barely speak a word of Spanish even if I run into anybody.......and I'm on a BMW! If this fucking thing don't start I'm going to die out here". As it was.....it did start. And I found my way out eventually. But I don't ever want to be in that position again. Now if I'd been on a Jap (particularly Honda or Yamaha) I'd never have thought like that. Because you always knew they would start and keep on running. The 650GS never missed a beat (unlike the 1200GS)......but I would never have trusted either of them in some seriously remote place. The CB or the Strom.......I could take them anywhere and they'd get me home. That's peace of mind!

  21. All this is true. But the Honda garage episode was the aftermarket alarm killing the battery and the recovery truck episode was a snapped chain, also a crappy aftermarket part fitted by an incompetent tinkerer. There have been other annoyances but all man made monkey mechanic post production stuff nothing to do with the bike as is. Famous last words now ay, I’ll bloody go n break down

  23. Always wet here mate tis February This is going to sound a bit sappy but I absolutely love the CB, it's so easy to live with. I can flat foot it everywhere which is not something I have been able to do on most of the bikes I have had over the years. It's torquey and happy to mooch around at low revs or you can drop a couple and its flying (well fast enough for me anyway). Clutch is light and the gearbox is sweet. The handling is very good, I can't see me needing anything different for everyday riding it's perfect for where I live and my riding style. Also very pleased with the quality of it, feels very well made and screwed together. You know I am a geek and think long and hard before I do anything which was no different in this case. I wanted a NC750X or CB500X to start with but the CB500F is a better fit for me. I even contemplated waiting to get a CL500 but the CB500F just felt a perfect fit so waited for the right one to come along second hand as new are like hens teeth at the moment. Plus buying a year old 1100 mile one saved me the best part of £1600. Didn't take long as its new reg season so mine came in hardly touched. I can see we are going to be very happy together. .

  34. I have asked the Mrs and its was confiscated by the primary school years ago. Little bits was running around trying to chop the boys with it, luckily it was only made of pine wood, apparently I wasn't told as Little Bits was worried I would have told her off. When the viking project was over she was only allowed to bring the shield home, if we wanted the axe back one of us had to go get it. Only found that out today

  40. I did his LEJOG ride cos I needed Mr Slowly to understand the vagaries of large group rides ie it’s mostly a total PITA. I found him a lovely guy but not quite the bimbler you’d think. He’s straight forward company and works pretty hard but doesn’t appear to have cracked the happiness thing yet, carries a lot of weight on his shoulders. But yer still a very nice guy. When we got to Scotland due to Covid restrictions we couldn’t enter as a group so thats where the route officially finished, although people did carry on individually I told him we were able to take our time so could he suggest some roads. He seemed to zone out from his surroundings and marked up my map with the encyclopaedic knowledge of a rain man! It was worth the trip cost for that alone.

  43. Pete is mistaken. I did have a full head of hair but it was gone by the time I bought a GS. Not going to post a picture of it so you can all make fun of me, but I made this video and there’s a short clip from before my last proper haircut, on my way to the Beethoven air style I’m the one getting into the driver’s seat at the beginning: This was in 2011, I think a few months before I shaved my head

  46. We had it at school when I first started, I think I was about 8 before we actually got any at home. I then discovered it actually came in different bright colours and without long hairs inside most of it, unlike the brown reinforced stuff at school. When my Dad died his Ford jeep thing was sitting in the front garden and my Mum wanted it gone as it was a constant reminder of him. The problem was it had no MOT and the hooter was disconnected, for some reason the alarm would go off whilst driving and that set of the hooter. My Dad had been trying to find the cause of this when he got ill so it had never been fixed. I had no chance of solving the problem so I bolted a motorcycle hooter under the bonnet and led two wires via the battery and a fuse then into the cab. I made a plasticard box up with a bell push button in it, connected it to the hooter wires and gaffer taped it to the dashboard with the words BODGOMATIC HOOTER (PATENT PENDING) written on it in magic marker. It passed the MOT with that and I drove it to my house and kept it there for a few months, green laning in it occasionally, before selling it for my Mum.
