I ordered a few bits for my CB and they turned up today. Hand guards, screen and main stand. Let the farkeling begin in the morning. Have to be careful though as it is the Mrs's 59th Birthday tomorrow so have to make sure she is happy before playing bikes.7 points

I did try that mate, the stand has a long pivot that goes through a tube on the frame then you bolt the pivot in. It difficult enough to get the pivot through on its own there is no chance when under tension. The spring is just to short or has to much tension, I tried the coin trick and that only got me within 20 to 25mm. I am pretty strong and I just can't get it on, even used my best profane words and it just won't go. I am going to buy another spring.6 points

Sorry to hear you’re having a bad day Pedro, keep yourself busy and time will pass more quickly. It’s better to focus on the mundane stuff than the things that make you feel sad. Keep your chin up and hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.6 points

Air filter at 3500, must be the size of a thimble. If it doesn't hold a lot of oil maybe the reason for the change interval. Oil changes are governed by how much crap gets in there, clutch material and what gets passed the rings and how the oil viscosity breaks down over time by the engine beating the crap out of it. My Honda dominator holds about 2ltrs and changes are 2000 miles if I remember right. Mandis CBF holds around 4ltrs and changes at 4500. I guess both of these are more down to said clutch material as jap machining is bloody good. The biggest prob with valves is more down the the seats getting beaten into the head closing the gaps which will burn them out so must be inspected regularly.5 points

If you can afford it, pound coins are thicker, there's easily a good 20 quid needed though.5 points

I didn't know we had this forum till Pete's comment on the other thread? It didn't come up when I hit the new post button. Anyway, another thing you can try is to fit the spring before you fit the stand if that makes sense, give you a bit more leverage fighting the stand rather then an evil pointy ended spring.5 points

Cant get my head around their thinking sometimes the XR and Dominator use the same oil filter same oil and same quantity of oil yet the XR is a 500 mile interval and as you said the dominator is 2000 miles so i just change them both at 1000 miles because the XR gets a much easier life than what it was designed for and the dominator gets a much harder life than what it was designed for4 points

Hope your day picks up. Sometimes it takes a lot longer to shake the feelings dreams leave us with than we’d like, I believe this is where a prescription of stiff spirits and crap TV is useful.4 points

I was at the bike show in London in 1972 when they unveiled the Z1......that was the gamechanger!4 points

I clearly remember my dad taking me to a garage. They weren’t called dealerships then to see the new (at that time) Z. My dad wouldn’t shut up about the fact they were all parked up on carpet. And not a drop of oil. Whereas all the Brit bikes had drip trays underneath them. The garage was making a point.4 points

To be honest I am very pleased with the main stand, looks decent quality and powder coated. I was expecting to have to paint it when it came but it looks pretty good as is. The screen looks just like my mates Puig, the handgards are okish but will be functional. Obviously not as good as the Givi ones but will work. I put some pictures up when I have fitted them.4 points

I am fitting a centre stand but just cannot get the spring on. I am just not able to stretch it far enough to get it on. I have tried loads of different levers but just can’t get it over. I have also tried putting coins in the coils to lengthen it but I am still 20mm short of getting it over. I am starting to think I have the wrong size spring. Now I will confess it is not a genuine Honda stand so I am getting pay back for being a tight ass but any constructive advice would be appreciated. I have attached a photo but I don’t think the perspective helps. The spring is about 20mm short of going over it’s tang.3 points

Well I think this means my booking stands. I read it as Hello Mrs Theres good note of that night. Thankyou a lot. Bonjour madame c’est bien noté pour cette nuit merci et bien à vous Laurent But I could do with someone checking my schoolroom French - the class I skived most, can you tell edit: Booking.con app has a translate button under the message (how handy). I was close! Hello ma'am it is well noted for this night thank you and good to you Laurent.3 points

On a CB500X there are 8000 mile service intervals, and the valve check is only done every 16000. No idea on cost from the main dealer though. I bought the bike with 15.5K kms......now up to 17.6K kms nearly 8 months later. I'm going to get Juan Cortes to do an oil and filter change at 19K and 22K, then they can do the big one with valves at 25.6K.3 points

Must really be a typo though, no oil manufacturer states modern oil life after opening at 6 months, it's always one year until it goes off and that's why it's a 1 year between oil changes. Head bearing at 11.000 miles is what seems out of the normal for me.3 points

Yer the address is correct and they’re not asking me for any response so I’m sure it’s genuine. I’ve contacted them to confirm the booking (“can take 48hrs to respond”), pee’d off cos can’t finish the route until I know where we land up and it effects whether someone can join us that evening and what we do the next day. I partially take the blame cos Covid had lulled me into forgetting how far in advance properties usually get booked up “74% of properties in your area are unavailable” plus a lot won’t allow a one night booking yet during Covid they couldn’t bite your hand off fast enough! Time to adjust the mindset.3 points

Same as mine! Mine were much thinner and lighter but for wind protection they're fine.3 points

There is a good old fashion fix it shop near me that I intend to use in the future once the guarantee on my bike is up. Lots of my mates go there. Polar opposite to Dameralls. Not putting Dameralls down they are good as gold but big and corporate, Colin Flashman's is proper old school, they fix anything and do not rip you off. https://www.flashmanmotorcycles.co.uk/3 points

Had enough of planning this trip now. Took forever to find the right accommodation, ended up redoing the route planning to land up in the right place via a decent route and now even though booking.com said my booking was confirmed they’ve emailed to say they can’t confirm my booking and are issuing a refund which may take 7-10 days. FFS I hadn’t paid for it yet anyway so I dunno what they’re on about or if I have any accommodation, it’s still showing as booking confirmed. I really don’t want to start AGAIN3 points
