  14. So, my day today had been quite uneventful until I heard about the death of someone I’ve known since we arrived in Spain. He was a gardener that plied his trade locally and always did a great job for a very reasonable hourly charge. We’ve used him all the time over the years, especially for larger jobs or when I just couldn’t be arsed. I honestly haven’t met a nicer, more genuine bloke. Never complained, worked when others would’ve given up and never seemed to have a bad word for anyone. I wouldn’t class him as a mate as such but it was always nice to pass the time of day and share a joke. He always planned to retire ‘next year’ and now it’s too fucking late. I’m not particularly religious but I have to question how it’s fair that someone like him should be taken when I bet there are people we all know who wouldn’t be missed. I can think of one. Anyway, tomorrow’s another day.

  17. Todays experimental kitchens Kettle cook is the ‘Seafood Boil’ thing they love in Southern America. This is a pic of what its supposed to look like - Mine obviously didn’t look the same because I wanted minimal ingredients so assembly is fast n easy, plus the pieces need to be small to ensure even cooking in a kettle. To start things off I’ve avoided anything in it’s shell as cooking seafood in a kettle is new to me, I wanted to be certain it was cooked through, so I went with raw king prawns because it’s easy to tell when they’re cooked. Every Spanish supermarket seems to have jars of cooked potatoes and corn on the cob and that’s perfect - speedy, no precooking potatoes or sweetcorn as in the American ‘recipes’ I looked at this sad chopping boards worth of ingredients and nearly stopped. I used only half of everything except the prawns and put a couple of very large dollops of butter in with Cajun spices before mixing it in the bag n squeezing the air out. First go 80 degrees for 20 mins to try and avoid overcooking the prawns, it wasn’t long enough. Back on at 90 for another 15mins. Now extremely hot. Up to the boil held at 90 degrees is definitely the temp needed. This is worth eating whether on the move or not, so tasty, I will have to apologise to my Texan friend. I’d have a squeeze of lemon with it next time. Doing it again I would just have more prawns and forget about the frankfurter because quality varies wildly and moving about you wouldn’t know if they were any good. Overall well worth the small effort it took. Needed a nice glass of cold crisp white to go with it though but heyho, who would have thought that would have been worthy of a glass of wine

  18. Got the dog MOT'd tonight and two new tyres. After i left the MOT station i had a copper in a van behind me for a few miles in slow traffic i was certain i was going to get pulled because the MOT and tax ran out in November last year but no they weren't interested shows how shit they are at their job. LOL

  29. It costs us €187 for both of us and despite the fact that I’m older her part of the premium is more than mine as she has chronic asthma. It goes up slightly each year but only by a couple of euros. If we went onto the Conveno Especial right now it would cost us about €130-140 a month and even though the state system is good if we need to see a doctor through the private health scheme it’s the same day, there’s no waiting. Peace of mind in case the shit hits the fan.

  30. Ah right, we had to take private health care and so far it’s been worth it. Until I reach the pensionable age we’ll stick with it, then there’s an option of joining (at least I think there is?)

  31. Yes because i'd know they are doing their job then, i had just had an MOT which i had booked in before hand so was perfectly legal to do so without tax, because you cannot get tax without an MOT first.

  32. Actually got a few hours to ride my bike for pleasure rather than commute this morning. What was supposed to be a trip to fill up for work tomorrow turned into a bimble around Bodmin Moor. I love that place one of the most beautiful parts of Cornwall and still unspoiled by the questionable never ending quest to commercialise. The Old Inn at St Breward. Arguably the highest Inn in Cornwall but there are others that claim that plaudit. On the moor just west of St Breward. Dramatic skies today. There is a lot of history to this bridge but I have forgotten it and it’s name. I will ask the woman who knows everything when she gets him and update This is Blisland that claims to have the only village green in Cornwall but that is total bullshit, fuck me there is a place called Village Green in the clay country . Still great pub and lovely village. Headed home after Blisland through Bodmin and St Blazey, only just remembering to buy fuel which was the whole reason for going out in the first place.
