Spent today cutting wood and splitting it at my parents home ready for me to burn next winter not a great deal of it will need a lot more I was looking around and there's going to be some shit to move when they pass on lol. All the stone in the walls in these photos was dug out of the ground and built by my father. I did help as a pre teen as well, just looking at what has been dug i recon over the years he's hand dug hundreds of tons to level the land off there is similar work done at the front as well, he also built the house himself with help from his brother and father All the trees to the left here may have to come down as there is a 100ft drop into a railway cutting and they have just electrified the line so falling trees could damage the overhead supply So to make the railways greener by electrifying the line they have to cut all the threes in this screen shot down the ones on the right of the line are on my dads property and they have suggested he's got to cut them down he's too old to give a shit now though lol And these looking the other way7 points

I wasn't alive then lol but i would have liked it . One of my strangest memory's as a kid was i dreamt the cutting was a tunnel and i was walking through it, later on in life i learnt it was a tunnel and was cut out to make the track into a twin track and using the stone for doubling the width of the viaduct, this is a photo of it My parents house is about where the tip of the crane boom is6 points

You think that's bad? Well I have regretted starting this forum many times! It was only supposed to last till the end of Lockdown......so that's something else I've managed to fuck up again!6 points

It's a phrase down here for a can't be arsed day. Definitely got that today, loads to do and can't be arsed to do any of it. Sitting here waiting for the rugby to start so I can watch that. Don't know why really no work last night so it is not as if I am tired. Loads of songs to learn, set list to compose for my singing group, Hornet to clean, goodies to bolt on the Hornet, blinds to put up fo the devil daughter. Can't be arsed.5 points

Got tomorrow planned out......it was a place I planned to visit earlier in the Summer but it was too hot! It was a Spanish Civil War Internment Camp that was later used as the location for a Sergio Leone western!5 points

Bit of a long way for you to go isn’t it? Mind you if someone would like to swap places and sort out my demented mothers affairs I’d merrily drive a van to Timbuktu5 points

I learned a new old expression yesterday, it’s what you say to someone (a woman mostly) that is gossiping too much about someone else’s life, tem cuidado não emprenhes pelos ouvidos, translates to “watch out, don’t go getting pregnant through your ears”5 points

I heard from one of Sofia’s friends in England about a very similar experience. A mate went home, got a car, and then came back with tea to wait inside the car. They got caught up with chatting though, while waiting 7 hours for the truck. Also on a friday evening/night. Not many things work well here in Portugal, but I have used recovery trucks plenty of times ( not on the GS @XTreme!) and never had to wait more than 30/60 minutes depending on the location.5 points

Sorry missed this Pete. Pros on the forum for me are: Some very interesting people who do interesting things, live in interesting places and will talk about it. We can talk about bikes without a lot of the bullshit 180 mph on public roads type stories. Some very genuine people. No tolerance of Pomposity. No Politics, mostly. Some genuinely weird fuckers here. Cons: Those fucking mange photos. Some spiteful pile on type of nit picking, wind ups and bullying. There are a lot of bikes and bike type stuff that people avoid talking about because the pile on culture think they are shit. I think we are missing a lot of interesting content as a result. The sheer volume of homophobia, misogyny and obsession with bumming type comments. I grew up in the 1970's and understand the humour but there are less and less of us now and it just doesn't fly today, if you want to recruit new members and grow the forum. You may not want to change the dynamic of the place. But don't underestimate how many people will walk away from this type of stuff though, even in our own age group. Sometimes being a member of this place feels like a guilty secret rather than something I would recommend to my mates. Now don't take anything I have said as an attack on anyone, it's not meant that way. You asked for what I thought and here it is. I do think this is a great forum with a good community, I enjoy spending time here.5 points

Ok short version of events. My mate gets a puncture (slow one) at 3.00pm , he needs to get back to Redditch by 5.00 pm as he has to collect his van from the garage, so I gave him my compressor so he could pump it up every so often. He says to me 'what if you get a puncture' , I say 'what are the chances of that ' . At 4.00pm with me heading home I get a blow out on the top of the Cotswolds, not a puncture but instant deflation sending me across the road but remaining upright . With no means of blowing the tyre up even if I put a new tube in it, I decided to ride 7 miles to Cirencester where there would be some civilisation for an easier recovery. I got there doing 20mph all the way and the tyre stayed on the rim but was f*cked, hence the need to ask for recovery. As long as my bike does get back here I will be phoning RAC customer services on Monday to ask them if they think their shitty service is acceptable.4 points

Yes, if someone’s carefully looking inside my engine and closing things, I’d rather he isn’t getting suggestions by some twat that feels like “helping out”.4 points

We are having a day like that today, went to the metro centre today to get some stuff and get skye out of the house, she had a sleep on the way home, I had a coughing fit which sent me blind for 15-20 seconds again so the wife had to take the wheel till it wore off. Since we have been home the daughter has been watching her cartoons and me and the wife have been dozing on the sofa with just an ear out for incase the daughter wanted us. We are both just so tired today3 points

Enough of this Covid/flu/coughing/syphilis thread………..you’re all making me feel like shit. Our car broke down yesterday while the missus was driving it so the breakdown had to be called. Honestly, you’d think the world had ended ffs! To escape the doom and gloom I’ve been prepping the bike for my trip to the Costa Blanca Classic Trial event next weekend………best I go back in the house now and watch the football3 points

Wow that is honest.. RUN FOR COVER Yep I don’t tell anyone about here. Most of my biking friends would call out the derogatory behaviour or language and then after being met with the usual piled on hostility simply leave. They would also think dimly of me for participating so I say nothing. It’s no mystery to me why every female contributor you’ve had has contacted me to say goodbye. Yes thats also a complete mystery3 points

Over here, Recovery is included in the price of the insurance. And it's not done by the likes of an organisation such as the AA/RAC etc......it's a network of independent garages right through Spain. Now if you're an Independent garage who's got a contract with the likes of Linea Directa, Liberty Seguros (that I use), Mapfre etc then you'd better be on the ball. Cos that's a regular income stream that you don't want to lose. Consequently they're very, very good.......and the local recovery guy for Liberty Seguros is Angel at La Union Garage!. He's only about half a mile away, so it's great peace of mind if you've got a GS!3 points

WR250, I'm now sitting here worried whether they will actually be able to recover it to my house today. In my dealings with them yesterday I came to the conclusion that they are employing half-wits. There is also the situation where no manager was available yesterday evening and their customer services department doesn't work on the weekend3 points

Good points Saul......as a newer member you're able to be more objective. Everybody should read what Saul said and take it on board......me included I have to say.3 points

Even cheaper in Jaen province.....4 bed with garage €45K/£39K. If the Govt hadn't destroyed the value of the Pound you could probably have got that for less than £30K https://www.andalucianpropertysales.com/property/casa-canuela3 points
