We got back from our little trip to Blighty last night. The first few days visiting Mandy's daughter in Northern Ireland was good, but the weather was predictably bad! We did manage to visit a few places with them though. Then we had a few days at my Mum's in Kent before heading down to near Eastbourne to stay with friends for the weekend. The weather was fantastic and we had a good time down there. Then we headed back to my Mum's for Sunday evening and then up Stansted Airport to fly back yesterday. The only downside was from hiring a car at Stansted, which I got the final bill for this morning, that includes a number of additional charges that weren't mentioned when we booked it. The fact that the insurance was actually more expensive than the actual car hire too! We only hired a car because of the strike action on the railways whilst we were over there! However, in actuality, the car hire wasn't really a great deal more than the train fares would have cost us anyway. It's just the disparity between the advertised cost and the actual cost that pissed me off. Anyway, we did have a good time.8 points

Got to take my Shadow out for another riding lesson this morning. Due to a combination of her being ill, both of us working and rubbish weather we haven’t been out for a lesson for 3 weeks. When the rain blew through today we took that opportunity to go out. Went to the local Market World that only opens Sat Sun and Wed so closed today with an empty car park. Really pleased with her progress today. For starters she remembered everything from earlier lessons and pulled away, stopped, changed direction figure of 8’s and the like. Brilliant and built her confidence. So much so I got her changing gear today which was great to see. Feels like she is making real progress. Halfway through the lesson we stopped for a snack and talked about what happened, couple of stalls and stuff, but generally all good. Anyway after the break got her out there again and she is using the first 3 gears now with some degree of comfort. Doing well so brought the lesson to an end on a high. Rode her home and got her a treat in the garage on the way. Enjoyable day with my youngest. Rubbish photos I know but concentrating on the job in hand.6 points

The old one that I got in 2009 finally gave up the ghost, it wasn't the exact same one as it was like Captain Cooks axe, ten new heads and twenty new handles but it did well for all those years, actually I think that the only original part was the power supply, well that's the way that it goes I guess. The new ones reasonable specs Ryzen 7 with matching GPU, 32G RAM, 500G SSD, Bluetooth and WiFi coupling, that sort of thing, it makes for a cleaner desk, running Win 11 pro which takes patience after Win 7 since 2009 but that's the way that the cookie crumbles, to many things these days won't run on 7, that's not to say that I might go back to it but I'll try this new OS and see how I go. Here's a little game for you, spot the new tower.5 points

I've seen the thread so far. My money is on that he didn't put an SD card in the camera and there's only enough internal memory for the last 5 minutes of video!4 points

Excellent report, Chris. It really is quite moving to see in real life and get the perspective of just what an amazing feat of bravery this all commemorates! Great that you had nice weather for it too. I fully plan to go back again at some point and explore a bit further. I also want to visit Oradour-sur-Glane at some point too.3 points
