Very tasty that Bob, I had the standard 990 with some Ackropovic cans etc and black panniers. Fantastic bit of kit but thirsty when ridden as intended Tried it off road a few times but it was waaaaaay too much so I bought a cheap WR250F to twat around the Peak District. Did loads of trips on the 990 including to Malta and back for a mate’s wedding. Sold it back in 2011 and only a few weeks ago the bloke I sold it to contacted me through Facebook and said he still had it and had not one bit of trouble either.5 points

Gave my mate a hand Saturday eve getting this bloody great couch out of his out house. You know the score, not stupid heavy but cumbersome and difficult to handle. Back not happy today.4 points

I've had what i thought was a flat spot off idle for some time now on the XR, tried re-jetting but made no difference and it's put me off riding the bike as its a bit jerky to ride on the slow stuff could never remember it having this issue in the past. The flat spot seemed worse when going down hill with a closed throttle and it suddenly dawned on me what the problem might be, so Yesterday i decided to take a look at the carb, i have a spare carb for the bike off an earlier model so dug that out to compare and after inspecting that carb my thoughts on the issue seemed to make sense, so last night i fitted the spare carb and took it for a test ride, sure enough the problem has gone, so you want to know what i think it was well the original carb has an unknown mileage on it and the throttle slide or carb body is worn so when closing the throttle the vacuum created by the engine was pulling on the throttle slide which was making it stick closed so you had to twist the grip harder to break it free making it feel like a flat spot lovely and smooth again now just like i remember, Had to do some fine tuning with the jetting tonight the older carb runs larger jets than the carb off my bike and it feels a bit more responsive. Another test ride tomorrow night as its pissing down tonight.2 points

Have to do something about the rear brakes...bled them yesterday..the stroke is pretty well extended to the max and still I'm able to bottom it out if I force it enough...was thinking of just getting a repair kit...cover is kinda trash...think I'm just going to buy a complete unit...not to expensive..2 points

And it's still going...incredible. Well I've decided that I will be never selling it again..not even if someone offers me 3 time what I paid for it...it's going with me to the grave...even if for some reason I'm un-aible to ride it...2 points

My luck..the thing will probably burst in flames and take half of the garage out...you know you might have something there...park the 1290 right next to it ...and accidentally dump some gaz on it..?1 point

I might go for the Missions again. Good enough for what I do - not a lot - and seem to give high mileage. I went to Portugal and back on some and they still looked like new when I sold the bike.1 point

If you look at it it's shorter as well. I'm pretty sure that the last of the 950's used the same guard as the 990.1 point

I was finding it too big to ride off road and I'd just had another operation so I was on crutches for nine months. It certainly didn't get retired, four friends have owned it since me, I'm not sure who has it now though but it's still on the road with over 65,000 miles .1 point
