I’ve moved this here with the other stuff about Pete.

Forgot to say I picked my Shadow up from work this afternoon, took her up to Bodmin Maccies for a Thick shake and a coffee for me, then back down the A30 to Innis Downs, Ebenezer, Luxulyan, Leekseed, Biscovey and St Blazey. Stopped for fuel then Par and back to Fowey. My Mrs was interested why it took 2 hours to go down town for Chloe and get fuel. Well I had to try out the new mirrors.

It's horses for courses @Marcel le Moose Fondler. if you were on any of your bikes and I was on a Vespa and we had to ride from one side of Bristol to the other I'd kick your ass into touch . Why do think all the delivery boys/girls use scooters ?

There was talk of type approval being forced on us here in the UK years ago but luckily it didn't happen

I rode it into work today Pedro, I can flat foot it now and didn't find anything detrimental to the handling . It turns in a bit quicker but feels perfectly stable

I used to be able to sit at 70 ish for 19 miles on the A30 here, part of my commute to work. It was ok with a screen on the CB500F, the Hornet is fine at 70 ish but get around 80 for any length of time and it gets tiring. I think the body work of the Hornet and head light help as I am sure it did on the CB500F. Part of the reason I got the CBF600 was the extra wind protection, I can sit comfortably at 80 or just below which is about as fast as you would want to risk for any period on UK roads if you have any sense. There were other reasons as well for the CBF 600, which I am really growing to like.

Exactly! It can go to around 105, but after 70/80 it's not that quick. The wind on a naked bike is always a bit harsh above 60 but I would like to be able to ride comfortably at 75/80 and I don't see that happening on the CB500F

I understand your dilemma I was in a similar position with my CB500F. I loved the bike but even though it would do more than 70/80 MPH it took awhile to gather more speed, not confidence inspiring for overtakes. On the Hornet at 75 mph it is just getting into the power and is off, if you let it. I have had it up to 100 MPH, effortless for the bike pretty harsh for the rider in the wind blast. It would definitely strengthen your neck muscles over time if you kept you licence . I traded my CB500F in with 5000 miles on the clock.

My current issue is that I avoid motorways due to main 2 reasons : 1 - at 75mph (120kmh) the engine is already at 6k rpm, which feels too much for me for long distances; 2 - the lack of power to go beyond that speed for quick overtakes. But, I like my bike so much and I haven't done 5k miles (8k km) on it. I really need to thing about this.

My Hornet is 4300 rpm @ 75 mph in 6th gear. Tried it earlier.

Curious as to the difference you see on the bike, Bob. Also on the difference in handling.

With my recent problems with the height of Miss America due to the Cogent suspension I decided to see what I could do to lower it and shave some weight to see if it would be easier for me to manage . I had a spare front end and a couple of standard Suzuki shocks so I dug them out and made a start ........... The rear shock was fairly easy to do , I just had to remove the rear wheel and shock linkages to make it easier to get out. Cogent shock on the left , Suzuki shock on the right .......... and fitted ............... Next job was to take the forks out .................. I started to drain the forks that I had as spare but the crap that came out was an awful colour , I suppose it wasn't really surprising as these forks have been sat around for 10 years Having seen what came out of them I decided to just flush the forks several times until they were clear . I had some spare fork oil of various weights so I just used that to flush them, I wasn't keen on taking the forks apart at this point so after the flushing I filled them with 10w fork oil and buttoned them up. Look at the difference in the length between the Cogent DDC equipped forks and standard , both are Suzuki ..............
