Paddy wants a job, but the foreman won’t hire him until he passes a little maths test. “Here is your first question,” the foreman says. “Without using numbers, represent the number nine.” “Without numbers?” Paddy says. “That’s easy.” And he proceeds to draw three trees. “What’s this?” the boss asks. “Have you no brain? Tree plus tree plus tree makes nine,” says Paddy. “Fair enough,” says the boss. “Here’s your second question. Use the same rules, but this time the number is 99.” Paddy stares into space for a while, then picks up the picture that he has just drawn and makes a smudge on each tree and hands it back. The boss scratches his head and says, “How on earth do you get that to represent 99?” “Each of them trees is dirty now. So, it’s dirty tree plus dirty tree plus dirty tree. That makes 99.” “All right, last question. Same rules again, but represent the number 100.” Paddy stares into space again; he then picks up the picture and makes a little mark at the base of each tree and hands it back. The boss looks at Paddy’s picture. “You must be nuts if you think that represents a hundred!” Paddy leans forward and points to the marks at the base of each tree and whispers, “a little dog came along and pooped by each tree. So now you got dirty tree and a turd, plus dirty tree and a turd, plus dirty tree and a turd, which makes 100!”4 points

As more electrical accessories become part of every day biking we are going to have to make provision for them if our bikes are not compliant . I currently have heated grips and a USB charging socket in my bike that was wired directly to the battery. In theory they should cause no problem as the Oxford Grips have a smart controller that will automatically turn off after 15 mins if no charging is detected. Also the USB sockets will draw no power unless being used. The problem is that I don’t trust them. I want everything to cease once the key is off. So with this being the case I bought a branded Lightening Box. Which takes power directly from the battery with a trigger lead to be attached to a switched live circuit. So if the ignition is on the Lightening box is, if off the same. There are several similar products to achieve this. Thunder Box (approx £85) Lightning Box (approx £50) Oxford Box (approx £25). I bought the Lightening Box but wish I had gone with the Oxford one as it looks identical. I expect they are all sourced from China and that there are many other options than those I listed. Here is the Lightening box in site on my Honda CBF600 which doesn’t have a great deal of space to fit such things. I took the trigger from the main fuse box on the instrument circuit. You can see the red wire in the picture. Ignition off Ignition on Wiring diagram Easy enough project but I thought I would put it on here if anyone wanted to do the same. Of course you set up your own relay feed triggered in the same way but to do it in a tidy way for 4 circuits would be a challenge and I couldn’t be bothered on my bike with its limited space. If there wasn’t a bleddy great ABS pump under the seat I may have done.3 points

Agreed. Although I bet it feels like pissing in the wind trying to get a result. Been in the shed most of the afternoon as it's been raining all day. Made a wood frame to get the solar panels up. Hoping for a dry afternoon to get them up and secured.2 points

Nice work but cheaper with just a relay and a couple of inline fuses or fuse block..2 points

If the bolt is cross threaded or something then it is a problem, for the narrow ones you need carbide or titanium. I find a left hand drill bit often does the job better.1 point
