  1. After fucking about with the Beta yesterday i decided to take the 650 out for a run, I had one lane in mind to visit as i know there's been a tree down for about 15 years and the alternative route that's been created is a bit tough. I wanted to see if it was worth clearing and then organising a TRF party to clear it. Still in two minds whether its worth it as the track up to it is quite tough and not sure making the last 30 yards easier will be worth the effort as the tree trunk in the brambles is massive and will be a bit of work to shift it. Original route is to the right of the bike It was a weird ride i just didn't seem to gel with the bike i was noticing everything wrong like the clutch lever was a stretch to reach and when i did get hold of it it was a chore pulling it in and the throttle action was stiff i felt nervous on the wet roads so was riding like a granny and going down the lane i practically walked down but not a confident walk more like one of those old people you see in a shopping centre gripping onto a Zimmer frame as if it was on the edge of a 200 foot drop, maybe the Beta is turning me into a willy woofter. The temperature dropped to 2c on the way home and that made me even more nervous because it was getting dark and some of the roads had been icy all day. Today's a washout and i'm aching like a bitch think i'm coming down with something which hopefully explains my feelings yesterday going to do nothing i still haven't got dressed so it's going well.

  6. I wish .... I passed my driving test in a Mk 1 Escort, at that time it was a nice car, but nothing outstanding about it. My driving instructor was a chain smoker, the roof lining on the passenger side was yellow from ingrained nicotine I got 10 cigs down me on a driving lesson, and was not a smoker at the time.

  9. It's already almost over, the weekend, but there's still time Storm Eowyn is arriving at Northern Portugal just now, leaves and stuff are now starting to fly around and it's looking very Irish or Scottish outside. I was supposed to take yesterday's sunshine to wash my bike and take it to my mechanic's for a chinwag and some coffee, but didn't. Me and my dad have fallen out big time over the last month or two, but now he's been admitted at hospital for a lung infection and having late stage ALS means he's probably not getting out of hospital. As such the last few days served to patch things up to give him some peace, and yesterday was particularly emotional. That has affected my motorcycling, though. Today will be more of the same, but with weather warnings.

  12. I don't remember what car i passed my test in just that it was the instructors car, probably because when i had my first lesson with him he pissed me off when he asked if i'd ever driven a car before i said i had been driving a Reliant Robin for the last two years, he replied i meant a proper car, cheeky fucker it was harder to drive the Robin than a four wheeled car, i had it on it's side twice haven't managed that with a four wheeled car yet.

  16. I admire the efforts you guys go to to keep lanes usable. I don’t think anything like that happens here except for fire prevention and that’s not really done by enthusiasts.

  35. Productive few hours had in the sheds. F7 engine back together with it's very worn disc valve, clutch and slightly shorter piston pin as I couldn't get the right size. Rover head back with 4 new exhaust valves, inlets faced, all seats recut and all ground in. My valve spring compressor had a hard time when coming apart so I borrowed this only gem which had no trouble. Prob about 75 years old. I've had to make up a piece of wood which will sit on the under side of the head as the cam is held in with the same head bolts, that way I can get the valve clearances sorted. I'll measure up one cylinder, 2 valves, at a time only fitting the shims and buckets to those so I don't stress the camshaft. I'm told they can snap pretty easily.
