12 yrs. ago I was Visiting my sick wife...caught MRSA through a contact of some type. I was born with a vascular birth defect, so MRSA attacked it hard....almost killed me. I was in a 3-day coma before I got sent to a burn center at another hospital...spent 7 weeks there while they amputated 1/3rd of my right foot, all the toe tips on my left foot, & 4 fingertips on my LH. Racked up over a million $$ in bills...which I never saw, as the hospital that I caught MRSA in paid for EVERYthing including my prosthetic arm & hook. Still feel quite blessed to be here & owe it all to God's grace. Really liking to still be able to ride my Ebike. Skiing will be attempted next season after I dial in my equipment.5 points

They are things which inflate suddenly every few secs to keep the blood pumping through my feet. As they were messing about with the nerve which runs my right leg they are concerned about blood clots - won’t be getting much sleep tonight with that and the occasional puking which apparently is normal after a general anaesthetic and the assortment of morphine, ketamine and other stuff I’ve had. Bloody pain when I first woke up was excruciating. Got to say that aside from the frustration at having the op canceled previously due to lack of beds the care and treatment has been 5*. Laying in the recovery suite the guy in the bed next to me was swearing at the nurses. I just can’t understand how people can be abusive to the staff. He did seem not quite right mentally. Now I just need to work out how quickly I can get back on a bike ( and skis)…5 points

Just think, if you lived in the land of the free you could have had the surgery much sooner and be homeless now because of the cost.3 points

I can absolutely relate to that @Nute I've seen the inside of hospitals enough for 3 lifetimes...I get the eeby-jeeby's just being a visitor in them. I remember those on my feet back when they amputated my toes...recognized them straight away. I had that same mentality regarding the Bike & Skis....Just don't try to recover too quickly my friend....it sometimes can come back & bite you in the ass. Speedy recovery mate....I'll be praying for ya...3 points

You weren't being nosey Nute....its just human curiosity...no worries. A big part of my recovery was proving to myself that I could still follow through & finish w/ some of my projects.... like rebuilding a 5.0 ltr. V8 from the crank up & installing it into my truck....as well as doing the same w/ my '88 XT 600....all with these.... My 2 oldest grandsons now own those vehicles....which was another turning point in my recovery....learning to Let Go of the old life & embrace the new.2 points

Like @YamaHead I have a season ticket for my local hospital (and a few others) . I cannot fault the care when you're in but like you say @Nute other patients can make hard work of things.2 points

I've had a couple of small ops and that anaesthetic fucks me up too. I watched several people up and dressed walk out after a couple of hours, I can't get my head off the pillow without hurling. Hope you're out soon.2 points

Bloody hell, what a nightmare for you, and your family. Reading what you have been through really puts one’s own issues into perspective. Good on you for having the guts and faith for fighting back and living your life. Thanks for sharing and sorry to be nosey, I assumed you’d been in a horrendous car smash or something.1 point

Thanks @YamaHead, I’d never seen them before. The bloody “ I’ve gone wrong and need someone to come and push buttons “ alarm seems to go off every 1.5 hrs requiring the nurse to come and mutter “sodding machine” under her breath whilst resetting it. Im hoping to be out today or tomorrow at some point assuming I can stand up without throwing up. This is my first ever overnight hospital admission and first general anaesthetic in 60 years, and I’d prefer it to be my last but … getting old is a bitch. Do you mind me asking how you lost your toes - tell me to mind my own bloody business if you prefer not to - that must have been an awful experience for you.1 point

The rain which was booked to arrive at 10 only got here 2 hours late but did give me time to sort the outside job. Currently messing in the shed with the Matchless forks. Owner has purchased some new chrome lower covers for the springs but their questionable quality isn't inspiring me to use them. The chrome's ok but they screw onto the top of the leg as screwing it on is showing how out of alignment they are.1 point
