  1. I loved and still love the Asterix books. Sometimes some light reading like this is more fun than wading through something heavier.
  2. They're good for my French, as there's a fair bit of slang in them and I also enjoy them, as they're not too taxing on my basic French!
  3. These are also in my reading list.
  4. Yes, he was a bit of a pioneer as well as a writer. Wind, Sand and Stars is about his exploits as an aviator I believe. He went missing during a reconnaissance flight in 1944 somewhere off the coast of Marseille. He lead quite an extraordinary life.
  5. Someone we know has just got home to Cheshire from their holiday home in Greece, to find that they've got no power! They're dead pleased about that!
  6. We had a cull of books before we came over here because we had just too many to bring with us. We've still got 2 bookcases worth, and I don't doubt the other bookcase will soon get filled! I've got a Kindle and the Kindle app on my tablet, but I just can't get into a book unless I've got it physically in my hand. The Kindle is good for holidays, but that's it as far as I'm concerned.
  7. I go through periods where I'm reading all the time, then have a spell where I don't pick up a book for ages. I'm just coming out of one of those spells.
  8. Just on our way back from a Black Friday sale!
  9. I just re-read Horned Pigeon and Maquis by George Millar, which is his WWII capture, escape and return to France as an SOE agent. Next up is Wind, Sand and Stars by Antoine de Saint-Exupery (who our road is named after). I've got The Little Prince by him to read too.
  10. The first year of my apprenticeship in 1974 was in the training school on Trundleys Road in Deptford. We could see Millwall's ground from the windows of our training room. Some of the lads were local and supported Millwall. They often offered to take me to a match there, but I declined!
