I'm sure that we've all had those, so spill the beans, own up to the times when your biking cool deserted you! My first "proper" bike was a Honda CD175, which was a great little bike to learn on and take the test, but after a year on it I was struggling to keep up with my mates, who had all moved up to bigger bikes. My solution to this was in the form of a Yamaha RD350B, which I picked up brand new on a Friday evening after work. My first run on it was sedate, as I was running it in, but I noticed a small oil leak from one of the cylinder heads, so I took it back to the dealers on Saturday morning. I parked on their front forecourt and went in to the shop and they told me to take it round to the workshop at the back. To get to the access road I had to ride up the main road a 100M and turn right. Being in the middle of a fairly busy shopping street, that was a slight challenge. I sat on the bike out the front waiting for a gap in the traffic to get out and do the short distance to the access road. I saw a gap and gave the bike a bit of throttle and dumped the clutch. I hadn't factored in that I was on a much quicker bike, so the RD stood on its back wheel and shot off across the road towards a queue at the bus stop opposite. The queue parted like the Red Sea. Fortunately my reactions were quick enough to shut the throttle and pull the clutch in before I reached them, slamming the front wheel back onto the tarmac. I managed to haul the bike round to stay on the road and wobbled the 100M to the access road, but I couldn't help but see the glares from the passengers in the queue that I had thrown into disarray! Fortunately they couldn't see my bright red face inside my lid! When I got the bike to the workshop one of the mechanics said "alright Evel, what's the problem with the bike?". I could have died!

I used to go there for work over a fair period of time. The pathology lab used to be above the entrance where the arched windows are. One of the ladies in the lab used to get me a parking spot right at the front if I phoned her when I was on my way. Pathology is now a new building a couple of streets back from there now. On street parking is a bit dodgy, but I used to go to a hand car wash place on one of the backstreets who had a few parking spaces. The company I worked for would only reimburse us £7.50 a month for car washing. This place charged £10 for a wash and vacuum and £10 a day for parking. So I used to park there and get them to wash the car and then get them to give me a receipt for £20 for parking. The company was quite happy to pay the £20 for "parking", I got the car washed and hoovered and they were none the wiser!

Ordered a washing machine from a local store online for delivery. Estimated delivery date came and went with no word from them, so Mandy phoned them up. It's now out of stock! Not sure if they were going to let us know? Anyway, Mandy said we'll just cancel the order and we'll get one from somewhere else. Apparently we have to send an email to cancel the order, which I've done.................silence! Mandy is going to call them again today to find out what's going on! Fortunately I paid with PayPal, so I can open a dispute if necessary! Most other places that we've ordered stuff from have been great, but this shower are useless. Won't be using them again!

I saw Black Sabbath when Ronnie James Dio was with them. Excellent gig.

Gary Moore at Wembley Arena on the After the War tour. The support band were a bit crap. Then Gary Moore came on, but there was a loud buzzing from his guitar. The techs were working furiously but weren't getting anywhere. At the end of the second song he said "fuck this" and stormed off stage, the house lights came up after a minute or two and that was it. No refunds or anything! I vowed that I'd never go to another Gary Moore gig, but a few years later my late brother-in-law talked me into going to see his Still Got the Blues tour at Hammersmith Odeon. I've got to say, that gig was bloody excellent.
