That's a hard won title that I hope to one day aspire to! ??

Lol....no, I'm not underselling my linguistic abilities, I have perfected the glazed "I didn't understand a word of what you just said" look! ?? We're actually moving very soon to Cébazan, which is just up the road from Capestang. I managed to bring the majority of my tools over with me, so fitting a set of bars shouldn't be too much of an issue, as long as they line up with the mounting holes reasonably well. I've only dealt with the salesman so far, so I've yet to terrorise the workshop guys yet! ?? But, if I get stuck I may well take up the offer of help from your oppo! Cheers. ?

He's just trying to make you jealous, Pete........treat 'em mean to keep 'em keen! ???

Lol. Shhhh....don't tell Xtreme, but I'm on there too. ??? Thanks, Six....looking forwards to getting out on it soon. ?

Thanks. I'm looking forwards to getting to know it, but that engine seems to be pretty good from what I've read. I've owned various Triumphs for many years now, so this will ring the changes. ?

Lol ? I guess that I wanted something a bit "adventure" and less "hooligan" than the Speedy. The CB500X seems to be fairly popular and at the price including 5 years warranty and breakdown cover it ticked most of the boxes. Like Xtreme, there's a good number of dirt tracks and fire break roads around, so something with a bit of mild offroad capability seems like a good idea. ?

Good points. I guess that the Honda ones not featuring in the owners forums is not an encouraging sign? I would speak with the mechanics at the dealers, but they all talk funny here! ??

Yes, definitely good to have 2 wheels at my disposal again. Yeah, I see what you're saying. Only trouble is that the dealer would probably point me in the direction of the Honda ones......which are considerably more expensive than any of the others and they're rarely mentioned in the owners forums. But I guess that they'd fit ok. ?

It's a nice pearlescent white too.....looks really good in the sun....?

Yes, I'll do a review once I put some KMs on it. TBH the difference in prices between used and new was generally so small that I thought I'd go for new and have the 5 year warranty and breakdown cover.

Cheers, Pete. How did they fit? Reviews of the bars that I've looked at so far all seem to criticise the fit. The Givi ones can result in increased engine vibration because they use the original bolts, that aren't long enough for increased spacing caused by the bars, which can result in the bolts shearing off and then needing drilling out of the engine casing! Not something that I want to risk with a new bike!

Possibly......I've not showered since I've been here, just in case! ??

Cheers mate. Yeah, straight out of the showroom....my first brand new bike since my RD350B in August 1976! Thought I'd treat myself.....also Nice to have the reassurance of 5 years warranty and breakdown cover. Engine bars and brush guards are on the shopping list.....just need to find out which ones are the best. ?

It's been a while since I was last on here. Mainly because being bikeless on a motorbike forum was too painful! ? But that situation has now been sorted. Just need the travel restrictions here to get lifted and I can now get back out on 2 wheels! A bit less hooligan than my last bike, but maybe that's a good thing! ?
  16. Hey Mr Fro, how are you doing? How's the football team coming along? You must have at least enough for a 5-a-side team now? ???
  17. My ideal bike would be a Triumph Tiger 800, but I've also been considering the Honda NC750X and the CB500X. So, a mid range adventure style bike. Another alternative is a more road orientated bike for distance riding and a small off-road bike for the fire tracks through the woods. Still plenty to think about.
  18. Good god, the double-act has arrived like Christmas past! ? Welcome, Six30.....?
  19. Thanks for the welcome, all. The research into my need bike continues, but, due to being a wimp, I'll probably wait until it's possible to go out without freezing my nads off!
  20. Thanks @Mawsley. Like a kid in a sweet shop at the moment! The only restriction is being a pensioner now.??

    It's 2021!

What if 2020 was just the warm up act for 2021? ?
  22. Yes, I guess those of a certain age grew up around bikes more than some of the younger generations. Fair play to @Lone Amigo, long may he continue to ride.
  23. Thanks, Pete. Hi guys, newbie here. I'm currently bikeless, having had to sell my beloved Speed Triple when I moved to the South of France recently. Being of the older persuasion, I'm looking at something more sensible, but with some mild off-road capability, as there is a forest with a network of fire tracks near our new home, which I'd like to explore. For those that don't know me, I've ridden bikes for 45 years now and feel like a fish out of water currently! Anyway, enough waffling. Looking forward to conversing and maybe meeting up with you guys as things improve Cheers, Tango
