  1. The trick is to use the ebike in Eco mode........that'll get you fit!
  2. I know, Pete. No one is more shocked than me!
  3. Decided that, as it was a bit cooler this morning and the locals have almost finished spreading grapes all over the roads, I would go for a bimble up to Carcassonne. I took the D road from Narbonne up there and looped back via Capestang. The medieval city wasn't too busy this morning, so I went in there for a coffee and pee. The roads up there and back weren't too busy, as I left here just after 9am. I got back here just after 12 and it was starting to get fairly warm, but I had my mesh jacket on, so it was OK all the time that I was moving. It was nice to get out on the bike for a little while.
  4. Yeah, that would do it!
  5. The Africa Twin is well over 200Kg I think. I'm definitely thinking about the weight of bikes now, but it's also how the weight is distributed. My Street Scrambler is a bit over 200Kg, but the weight is fairly low. This is helped by the small fuel tank, but that's it's achillies heel for me, in that the range is not great, even though the consumption figures are pretty good for a 900cc bike. Tiger Sport 660 could be a possibility then?
  6. What is limiting you on how far you could fly? I've not been to Jersey or Guernsey for a good many years now, so I don't know how prices there stack up these days.
  7. I flew from there plenty of times when it first opened and it was brilliant, because it was so quiet in there. I used to fly UK Air to Glasgow, Edinburgh or Aberdeen on a weekly basis, or even several times a week at times, and at that time you could park out the front of the terminal building, stroll in and be on the plane within the hour! Not so, now!
  8. I don't even have to be on a curbstone to do this, I can fall off a perfectly flat pavement!
  9. If you've no real interest in going offroad, then something more road focused would be better? Another alternative is a V-Strom 650? Legendary reliability and comfort.
  10. Me too, but it's more convenient than the 2 day drive from here back to blighty. Fortunately most of our local airports are fairly small, so it's never too much of a problem, but coming back from Stansted or Gatwick are usually a nightmare!
  11. I had an Octavia vRS TDI estate a number of years ago as my company car. The boot was huge and it went pretty well too! The only downside was that it didn't really like a lot of town work, so, when I'd been doing a bit of driving around London for a few days the DPF would clog and a couple of times wouldn't regenerate, so it had to go into the dealers to get sorted. Other than that it was a brilliant car. It went back to the lease company with 100k miles and still looked like new.

    Walking boots.

Agree with this. Although, my scarpa goretex mid boots have been perfectly comfortable from day one, but they do leak in really wet weather, the same as my Merrells. I've got a pair of Berghaus fell walking boots, which are completely waterproof but they're a bit heavy and make my lower shins sore after several hours walking. For the most part the Scarpa boots are my favourite, because they're so comfortable and pretty decent support and grip.

    Shed.

I put up a 8×6 shed at our old house in the UK. It was a cheap (relatively) wooden thing and it was shit! It went together reasonably OK, but all the shiplap on the walls bowed and distorted within a few months, which then let the rain and little furry creatures in. Eventually it became pretty much unusable. It was still standing when we sold the house, but I'd guess that the new owners would have taken it down, before it fell down. The moral of the story is that wooden sheds can appear to be a reasonably cost effective solution, but decent ones can get pretty expensive!
