When I was 17 I could never understand why my mum wouldn't go to sleep until she heard me turn up at home at whatever time at night. Once I had kids I began to understand where she was coming from!

Glad he's OK mate. Maybe now he sees the value in wearing the gear?

Absolutely agree. Theirs was a 94 car that we bought in 96 and it got scrapped in 2016. The bodywork, apart from the door hinges, was in pretty good nick, considering it was kept outside and rarely got washed! The interior was a different story!

There was virtually no rust on that Citroën, but the metal fatigue around the drivers door hinges were what killed it. It was the 3 door variant, so the driver and passenger door were bigger and consequently weighed more, which put extra strain on the hinges. Other than that it probably would have gone on for another 20 years.

My ex had a Citroën ZX 1.9d, non turbo, for years and then handed it down to my eldest lad when he first passed his test. I think that in the nearly 20 years they had it it only needed a new battery and a couple of glow plugs, apart from tyres and brakes. Slow as fuck, but it just ran and ran. My lad only got rid because the drivers door hinges were pulling away, so the door dropped, and repairs were more than the car was worth. But it didn't have all the electronics and gadgets of newer cars.

I've lived here 2 years, but the first year was nearly all lockdowns, so I didn't really come into contact with many people. Initially I tried learning from books and audio books, but it really wasn't helping. I bit the bullet earlier this year and am now taking lessons via Zoom once a week with a French teacher, to give a more structured learning approach. It's slow progress, but it is progress I guess. I get frustrated with myself over how slow the progress is, but that's counterproductive. Hopefully I'll get there eventually.

The more I know, the more I realise I don't know! And, as @Clive said in another thread, you can't teach an old dog new tricks! I accept that I will never be fluent, but I'd like to be able to hold basic conversations with people, rather than staring back like a rabbit caught in headlights when anyone speaks to me!

Cheers. Conjugating the verbs is my real stumbling block, and I'm still only using present tense! We've not ventured into past or future tenses yet, which will be a nightmare I'm sure!

Yes, it's coming along very slowly!

Erm, tell me again how easy it was for you to find somewhere to live?

It'll be interesting to see the price. The new Hornet 750 is 7800€ so 10500€ could be pretty realistic. But, yeah, low slung exhaust and no bash plate? Strange!

We've got Critair stickers (clean air zones) for our cars and my motorbike. They cost about 5€ each and, as all of them are fairly low emission vehicles, we can enter most cities with the restrictions without further issue.

You stick to your Warburton's white putty and @MooN and myself will continue to enjoy the finer things! Viva la différence!

I'm pretty sure that my life took a different direction when I got into bikes. At one point I pretty much had 2 separate groups of friends......those with bikes and those without. I've still got friends who just don't "get" the biking thing and I guess they never will.
