Those are Bridgestone Battlecross AX41 , they're fine on the road but as with any knobbly tyre you have to watch out for overbanding and stuff like that.

Absolutely Fred, Bing maps are superb as an overview online. A printed OS map will give you a wider overall view of the area but I hardly use them now when I'm actually riding.
