  1. Thanks Pedro.....she will get some grief from the trip but unfortunately these specialists are only in the city of Granada!
  2. It is a Rotax engine which BMW bought the rights to. BMW own that engine as such. Components were produced in Austria for BMW only and then shipped to China for assembly. There are no Chinese made parts in there. If you look at a parts catalogue you'll see that the engine components have the same reference numbers to the earlier F series.....no difference whatsoever. Because it's the same engine!
  3. No.....because they discontinued that motor for general distribution and BMW bought the rights to it......lock, stock, and barrel. Assembly by Loncin (previously Kymco) and BMW allow Loncin to use that motor in their China only model. They have no permission to sell it elsewhere. And that model goes for huge money there because it's a BMW engine....originally Rotax.
  4. You won't see much of me till later on in the day tomorrow as I've got to take the wife to one of the Hospitals in Granada. I say "one of" cos there's about 20 of them in the city.........it's a drawback of living in a third world country you know! It's a 320km round trip and I'll be leaving the house at 7am for a 9.30am appointment. Hopefully I'll be back by 3pm, but that's not fixed as I've no idea how long the tests will take. So my question is who should I leave in charge while I'm not here?
  5. So you haven't got a source then? This is the Perfect Storm......no source and no camera!
  6. Where's the source for that? Because everything I've ever seen is BMW bought the rights to it not Loncin......they just assembled it, and now they assemble the engines for the 700/800 series. The new G650GS is essentially the 2007 single-cylinder F650GS brought back into production with some minor modifications and with the engine assembled by Loncin in China instead of Rotax in Austria, but still using parts manufactured by Rotax in Europe.[2][10][11] The finished engines are shipped back to BMW in Germany where the bikes are assembled. G650GS models with the Chinese-assembled engines can be easily identified as the engines are painted black while in the earlier European-assembled engines were finished in silver. Before the bike was discontinued in 2007, there was a brief period when the engines were assembled by Kymco in Taiwan. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_F_series_single-cylinder
  7. About €300 a year fully comp for me.....insurance is expensive here. But having said that, everything is included......full European breakdown cover, legal expenses etc.
  8. Green lanes? I can do scorched earth lanes if that's any use!
  9. Sounds like the Mad Woman Death Stare got deployed!
  10. No.....the engine is Austrian (Rotax). Exactly the same as it's always been.
  11. All feedback is welcome and I take your comments onboard.....so I'll put up a thread to suggest to people they try and keep to the subject in hand etc.
  12. What parts are actually Chinese then Ian?
  13. We could if Fuckmine turned up!
  14. Oil is cheaper than metal Pedro so I'll stick with my 3K kms interval......which normally works out twice a year!
  15. Glad you like it Rich.......as I said, it's impossible to be a perfect fit in all ways for every member! Because we're all different people. But everybody has the option to influence the direction of the place by what they post......so I hope all of you will get involved and help us to improve.
  16. But that's breaking-in oil.....it needs to be drained! 3K kms max for mine at all other times!
  17. Exactly......I go out to ride.....not to meet people! You don't go out in your car and drive in groups meeting up with other car drivers in cafes.
  18. Down to 5 cases here! Down to 5 cases.....and still no sign of increased mobility! I'm now out of tea bags FFS!
  19. If I had a Chinese engine I would be Ian.
