    Parbados

I grew up with Par Sands as my local beach, anyway it has always been known locally as Parbados. When I was a kid is was advertised as a mile of golden sands, now advertisers have to be more truthful and it is just about half that, still a lovely beach though. Anyway I was down there dog walking today and spotted some really odd looking birds. Looked to much like hard work to me.
  3. Hence my fussing about warm hands and such, trying to get as prepared as I can. To be fair it rarely gets that cold in Cornwall and if it gets icey I will be using my van.
  4. As I have said before I work weekends but so far this one looks like it is going to turn out ok. My boss rang to say that I have no clinician tonight (Friday) for my contracted shift so I don't have to go in but will be paid, I have to stay on call but in reality if I don't hear anything by midnight I can go to bed. Woohoo! Saturday I have been moved from Launceston Hospital to St Austell which is 25 miles closer to home and the shift is an hour shorter. Another win, Woohoo. Sanday is a normal shift but no complaints I am lucky and really enjoy my job. Also a result as I have 114 miles knocked off my regular 192 mile commute for the 3 days.

Good to know. First time I have had a longer commuting to do on a bike, 32 miles. Always be less than 10 miles before so not time to get really cold in the winter.
  6. Thanks, won't be changing anything then

I had the idea to mount some spotlights to the crash bars, which I may or may not do, just thinking. Not to worried about getting 3 point ones as I don't see myself doing any serious off roading to need that. Regarding the hand guards, a chap I work with has them on his Vstrom and swears by them for the winter. We were chatting about heated grips and he said to try hand guards first. I like them so far, but I also have some Oxford Rhino mitts that I bought for another bike that I never used, that I can try. Thats good to hear about your Himalayan, I know its early days but I am chuffed to bits with mine.
  9. I remember back in the day you could get smaller rear plates for bikes in UK, is that still a thing or illegal now. No strong feelings about it just a passing thought I had today.

Yeah they are RE ones. The only attach at one point so not for throwing over on really but they keep the wind and wet off your hands. I got them from India on ebay half the price you pay here. They came in a RE box and had the RE part numbers and Hologram on them so they see legit. Just ordered some RE crash bars from the same guy.
  13. Ben interesting to see what it is like I have been thinking of something similar for my bike. I have one of those Lidl 12v compressors in my van that I use for the bike but good as it is, it's a bit bulky to cart around on my bike. You can get something similar on Amazon for £30 and I have a feeling it might be more practical to return anything faulty to Amazon.

Not really just some stick on decoration. I am quite partial to the look of knee pads if they do anything practical or even stay on is yet to be seen. Oh and if I have missed a bit cleaning it I don't really care

    Winters here

Fives days of commuting and the poor old Himalayan is filthy, guess I will be bike cleaning tomorrow which will probably last until I am back on shift Friday night. So tempted to lube the chain, check the tyre pressures and look the other way F

  17. An atheist was seated next to a little girl on an airplane and he turned to her and said, "Do you want to talk? Flights go quicker if you strike up a conversation with your fellow passenger." The little girl, who had just started to read her book, replied to the total stranger, "What would you want to talk about?" " Oh, I don't know," said the atheist. "How about why there is no God, or no Heaven or Hell, or no life after death?" as he smiled smugly. "OK," she said. "Those could be interesting topics but let me ask you a question first. A horse, a cow, and a deer all eat the same stuff - grass. Yet a deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns out a flat patty, but a horse produces clumps. Why do you suppose that is?" The atheist, visibly surprised by the little girl's intelligence, thinks about it and says, "Hmmm, I have no idea." To which the little girl replies, "Do you really feel qualified to discuss why there is no God, or no Heaven or Hell, or no life after death, when you don't know shit?" And then she went back to reading her book.
  18. I am a Cornish Celt. I know this may trigger some, but diversity in the UK is not just about skin colour, and just a brief historical look into British history can be illuminating if anyone is interested. Just imagine telling a Welsh person they were not Celtic and just English really, we get that sort of abuse regularly. Not that I think there is anything wrong with being English its just I do not believe myself to be.
  19. Yes I was born 7 miles from where I live now. In fact I sometimes work in the hospital I was born in.
  20. Depends entirely where you are. Not a bigger issue than any other, to my knowledge, in rural Cornwall. Also one of my colleagues who rides a Vstrom has never had an issue on this site. No saying it's impossible but pretty unlikely.
  21. Yes its a sleepy cottage hospital on the outskirts of town. We very rarely see anybody overnight and because of the main road were aren't on route to anywhere. Also got it alarmed.
