The wife is okay really, if i said I was going to get another bike I would get the eye roll but she wouldn't moan. Remember I know what she spends on horses so it's more like banter between us. I have thought long about a big brick, I wanted one for ages years ago back when they were uber spendy. Blackbirds are very reasonable for what you get now, £3k will get a nice one but you would be forever tickling it where I live. One dual carriageway in Cornwall. Plus they have a thirst and if I was going to commute on it that would be a factor if it drank more fuel than my E46. There are lots of places where I can go full noise on the Hornet for at least a couple of gears, do that on a Blackbird and and you could be in worlds of hurt. Then there is an older big ZZR I do like them as well but same thing as a Blackbird also a Kawasaki GTR. Love VFR's. I just dunno really. I think the factor you have hit spot on is that I want something that I can take the youngest on and that is not the Hornets sweet spot, well for her anyway. Comfy for two with a bit of zip is the criteria, shaft mayby, fairing probably, low seat also a factor. The FX650 Vigor and a 650 Trans I went to look at were to high for my short arse. Plus pretty fugly in the flesh. I think I should probably stop navel gazing be grateful for what I have and get out on the Hornet. But then again there is a minty 1976 CB750 for sale 7 miles from me, but I would never commute on it, fuck it no, ride the Hornet .

You are probably right, I was just thinking fully faired shafty, good on fuel, comfy, cheap to run and buy. But if I am honest I couldn’t ever imagine going on a ride out with my mates on it, Dullville shame. . It would be a cold day in hell that I ever got any sort of EV.
-
I think you maybe right. The Hornet is a great commuter but I sort of don’t want to stack the miles to and fro from work. Or I just fancy something to play with that I don’t really care about. No you are right I am just looking for an excuse to get the Mrs on side.

Is that the one up north where reality is as fluid as the weather?
-
I am seriously thinking about getting a 650 Deauville for commuting to work, does it make sense? or am I losing my grasp of reality?

Flounced for sure, couldn't stand the heat

I agree but that is assuming the fuel was fresh when his bike broke down originally. Apparently 850 Commandos are fussy when it comes to octane, according to Bob. I wouldn't claim to know but he has been riding the bike for a long time so I am guessing he knows it's quirkes.
-
As an after note, had a chance meeting and chat with Bob yesterday. He's been right through the Commando again, he has owned it 38 years, so it has been apart many times. Bob is a 60 year old mechanic, who's brain we all pick at times. He is one of those adenoidal clever fuckers, he is convinced it was fuel that had gone off during the six weeks his Commando was off the road. Makes sense as it got better after an Italian tune up and some fresh fuel on the day.

Thanks for the pointers Fred.

@boboneleg. Can I pick your brains a little mate. What do you think of a Honda FX650 Vigor. There is a 2001 with 14k for sale near me and I am sort of interested, I had it in the back of my mind that you had one.? Anything to particularly watch for. I will search the net as well but always interested in first hand experience.

Yep they stank for sure, used to land their catch and go on the piss immediately. Good lads all but best to stay downwind.
-
Yep two boat crews in fact. From left to right: Weamer, Nemo, Fluff and Mike from the Mon Rev. Then Dave, Doozer, Mark and Jason from the Satanic. Back then there were six boats working out of Fowey, now sadly none.
-
That was the artist who painted it, the image was taken from an old photo that is on the wall in the pub.

Got sent this today, it's a painting from the late 1980's of some of the Fowey fishermen, there are none now . They were all mates and contemporaries of mine. Sadly 3 of them are dead now four if you count Spot the dog. They lead a very destructive life, part of the job and danger I suppose. You always knew what pub they were in, you could smell them before you went in. And that was back when smoking masked the smell of most things. Not them

Sorry MIA because it is a busy time of year for me, daughters, horses, work . Zhang is one big hard bastard, Wilder needs to give up he is gonna get hurt if he keeps taking that sort of fire. Dubois could be another British World Champion to. Always liked him, reminds me of Bruno although probably a better boxer.

Been working overnight Friday and Saturday plus again tonight Sunday, not moaning but it does make getting out on the bike more difficult as I do have to sleep at some point. Anyway finished work at 8:00 am in Launceston getting it home, changed and my bike out and up at 4 Turnings garage for 9:00 am to meet up and go to Kit Hill this morning. Bit of a rush but made it. 6 of us today, me and Hornet, Steve and Super Meteor, Martyn and V85s, Gary one and 1974 Bonnie, Bob and 1975 Commando, Gary two and 1200 Sportster, Chris and 900 Triumph Scrambler. We made 3 miles and Bob’s Commando died, made another mile and it died again then again but started the fourth time. This time after an Italian tune up it ran fine for the rest of the trip up the Kit Hill. Don’t know about the trip back as I headed home before the rest to sleep at midday. Much as I think his Commando is the mutts nuts that there is why I haven’t got one. Fuck that. It’s around 30 miles to Kit Hill, it was a great run in beautiful weather. Loads of bikes out and about. Bimbletastic It seemed to be Commando and Brit bike in general day today. Some really nice stuff there, loads of UJMs, Harleys, Indians and even a couple of Himalayan’s. Not one chinky bike though Bob’s ‘Bastard Commando’ his term not mine The sound this made was awesome I know they aren’t a thing any more but I like the look of that Victory Overflow parking Triple Brick, I nearly bought one of those back in the day, in fact still have a hankering. I always thought they were small back in then but I suppose my perspective has changed Old a new Bonnie’s side by side, old Bonnie for looks for me. If it were my money it would be the newer bike don’t want the vibes Lovely old Honda Yes please Bantam D1, belongs to a friend’s brother.

I haven't got an automatic downer on everything Chinese but I wouldn't touch that POS with a barge pole, overcomplicated, fragile and poorly finished. And 4k FFS there lots better for that sort of money out there. Voge 300 Rally springs to mind or even your favourite the Mash X Cross can be had for just under 5K. Or even one of the new Triumph 400's

Singing is cool mate, group admin is a pain in the ass. I love singing in my group and leading that, just don't enjoying the sorting and arranging. Also don't like surprises, couldn't say no to taking part in the D day celebrations, sneaky vicar.
-
Talk about being set up, I heard at the weekend that Lankelly Shout, my singing group, is going to be doing an hour set in the D-Day celebrations in the town. Great, nine days to organise a set list, song sheets and teach the veg the songs they don't know. Just about got the set list together, shared Vids for what they have to learn, now doing the song sheets. Just love admin me . Also heard the Vicar would be grateful if we go and bolster the church service hymn singing before hand. I have just sung 3 days of the last 4 so have no voice to practice myself. Day of moaning and swearing at the puter for me, just wanted to play Minecraft with my youngest. . There better now I have vented better crack on

I would go further, over priced POS. Interesting to see the result of the long term test though.
