    New Toy

It’s normally driver and Clinician. So me and a Nurse practitioner or Advanced Paramedic or occasionally a Doctor. We do carry a fair bit of kit, 3 drawers of drugs, a smallish tin of Controlled Drugs (in a mobile safe), emergency bag, Defibrillator, Nebuliser and two bottles of Oxygen. Plus loads of PPE, first aid kit , catheters and some tools. All housed in a bespoke rack system. There isn’t a lot of room for anything else but we can carry 4 people if needed. There is other bits and bobs but I won’t bore you, it is a load of heavy kit though and we run the highest pressures recommend on the tyres to cope with it. It’s my job to look after all that inventory keeping it in date and fully stocked. I find it all pretty interesting to be honest. Our service only does two classifications of call, urgent and routine. First one has a 2 hour response window and the second 6 hours. So the car is always running to keep everything charged, the windows clear and control the temperature inside the car. We are not allowed to break any traffic laws. No hard starts at all. In fact I am pretty popular with the clinicians as I drive smoothly and that helps them doze off between visits. If I was to tear about that wouldn’t be the case. And some drivers do. Kernow Health (my employer) did test 1.5 petrol cars but ended up going for 2.0 diesel’s. Mostly for economy I understand. I like this new Kodiac but I feel the Octavia Scouts we had were better suited to the task. I suppose once I get used to the Kodiac my opinion will change. Kernow Health also runs falls cars and patient transfer, non emergency, ambulances. Basically our services fill the gap between emergency services and general practice. We are mostly creatures of the night .

Got new cars at work. First drive for me last night. DSG 4x4. Very nice and very smooth to drive. Bit heavy and feels slow but will probably improve as it runs in and I get used to it.
  4. You of all people should be more concerned about crashes than me
  5. Been doing a bit of DIY. It’s been ages since I’ve picked up any tools and to be honest it’s the simplest things that make you smile the most ripping an old reclaimed bit of timber up on my tables saw then hand planing it was just a pleasure. I really need to get back to my woodworking, so good for your mental health. Anyway now I have somewhere to store my gear that doesn’t cause the Ire of the Darkness.

    Africa Twin?

I love the Tiger 660 Sprint, very cool bike, but it gets spendy when you spec it up, which is what I would want. Doesn't make it a no just not something I would jump at without serious thought.

    Africa Twin?

I do like the Strom and SV650 but much as I know they make a lot of sense they don't really do it for me enough to actually buy one. I like the wide bars and riding position of an off roader but don't really want a tall bike much over 200KG's. Perhaps I should just get some new bars for my CB.

    Africa Twin?

I am pretty good most of the time I was just bursting for a piss and not focused on the job in hand.

    Africa Twin?

Not necessarily but I do like them as I don't want to be tinkering just jump on and go. I have a mate with a 800 Crosstourer and I liked it, the 1200 is huge though. I do like a GS and an older one would suit me, but I am a bit wary of the reliability of newer BMW's but I am not sure if that reputation is justified, not really researched it that much.

    Africa Twin?

That is interesting Fred. I am not sure if it is grass is greener syndrome with me. I do like the look and reputation of the AF, but I am not sure if I just want something with a bit more kick than my CB500, which itself is quick enough really. Like you I almost invariably change my mind once I go for a ride on it. Just so easy to live with. Perhaps I am looking at things from the wrong side. I do like the look of the new Hornet and that would definitely have more kick but I am missing some wind protection so perhaps the Transalp or NC750X, or even the new Tiger Sport 660. Weight is an issue for me to, 16 years away from rugby and weight training and I am nowhere near as strong or nimble as I used to be when I had bigger heavier bikes. I tipped my CB over in a carpark recently, rushing, and I didn't find it easy to pick it up so there is that to consider. Perhaps I should stop navel gazing and just enjoy what I have.

    Africa Twin?

I am not sure really, more thinking about it, an itch. Not sure if I would trade in my CB500. If I did get an AT would have to lower it. Serious off roading isn't for me. If not an AT I would think of a CBF1000, or VFR 800. More a big comfy tourer territory. I suppose I am more thinking out loud.
  12. I have been looking at a CRF1000 Africa Twin. Would You?
  13. Funnily enough I was thinking what an eyesore that Virago was. Love the yellow Triumph and the V50.
  14. Yellow only for Bettencourt
  15. Bloody hell now I want one of them as well
  16. Basically he was quite upset with Eddy Jones.
  17. Yep brilliant but he is going to be sent off now, bloody pity. Shaping up to be a great game.
  18. Some supplies for winter and 3 Helmet mounts.
  19. We had Skoda Octavias as Doctors cars, now we have Kodiacs. Bloody good cars. Not without fault but our Octavias were hammered and not really serviced properly. Even so 10 cars over 5 years around 150000 miles each I think we only had 3 breakdowns and one burnt to the ground but that was user error.
  20. Night Manager and Broadchurch are very good

    Walking boots.

I agree, the problem is everywhere in Cornwall is uphill. Thought about a lectric assist jobbie, but I would rather save the money and walk. Plus there are some stunning walks pretty much right outside my front door. Silly not to.

Got to, to keep me heart going.
