On the P&O firing question, that manner of termination of employment would simply be illegal under European employment laws. Oh, wait a minute… the Uk voted to leave the EU… Tough shit then I guess. ( but don’t let anybody say “i told you so…”)

cheers, but unless something very strange happens I'll kip on one of our boats at Capestang. I might come round and drink your coffee though if you're not too far away from there.

well if my plan comes off and the weather is clement enough I'm planning on heading into @Tango country. A trip south via millau, free nights kip ( and drinking) at our base in Capestang and home via Ambert in the Auvergne. about 1500kms in all. I'm planning on doing it over 4 days cos I can't do huge distances in one hit anymore cos my knees and back wont take it and I'd rather take my time and only use the Autoroute in short sections to make ground so it'll be mostly Route Nationales and D roads. I reckon if I eat from a supermarket at lunchtime and stay in Youth hostels ( Yeah!... youth hostels! ) on nights 1 and 3 I can feed in a restaurant in the evening and keep the cost down to about 85 € a day. depending on fuel costs at the time obviously.

didn't you get eaten by his dogs or something?

You could say that, it's kinda his specialist subject... However did you guess? He's my Dad. He's now 82 so the more money he makes now...

anybody got any proper trips planned for this year? I know @boboneleg has a good plan for a French trip this summer. Im thinking about more than the usual or regular day trips. @Specs ? another trip to equal the Nordkap saga? anyone else attempting the North west 500 or whatever they call it? I might have a 4 day trip on the cards for April but it depends on so many factors at the moment thet it's still on hold untill I know more. Otherwise I have 2 weeks off in first half of september but nothing planned yet, still looking for inspiration...

France runs 220v, mostly between 8 and 13 amps. At work I have 16A. but most professional or industrial installations are 3 phase, so at work I run ( for example) the power outlets on the port with 3 outlets one on each phase, but then I also have one 3 phase socket on each post which gives 380v. Don't ask me how they get 380 from 3 x 220, I'm a complete numpty at electmatrickery.

When I'm out with bro in law ( locked in syndrome, just about manages to pilot his lectric wheelbarrow... sorry, wheelchair ) people often ask if I'm his carer. their attitude towards him changes subtley when I tell them I'm actually his bodyguard... It also cracks him up which is hilarious cos he doesn't control his mouvements well when he's laughing and ends up running into stuff

probably why you fit in so well...

indeed, but he is being rude so by using the "Tu" from he is signifying his refusal to use the "vous" as that would imply respect. I learnt my french originally from a french Bike club, and still sometimes have to be careful in polte company

Canadian French is to french what Chaucer is to English... language from the 14th century. I believe they can pretty much understand Cajun french too.

"Americans are the international pirates of language and, as such, should be hung, en masse, from specially strengthened yardarms" I just can't remember who the quote is from

Why I would be asking for advice from you lot I have no idea, but here goes; N01 daughter has been given the opportunity to study in the UK for 6 months next year at some point. We were hoping that Warwick was oing to be an option cos I have family not too far away which is always reassuring, but she has been offered Liverpool or Edinburgh, either of which I know vey little about having only visited either of them by boat for a 24h stopover. Anybody any toughts or suggestions?

any corroberating sources? I have no clue who the person posting that is and she doesnt cite her sources, the fact that it is not in the mainstream media is not in itself a proof of reliability. I dont trust the mainstream media either by the way as they all without exception have their own agenda and bias which dictates their interpretation of events.
