The second man/woman rule is what we use trail riding as there are so many direction changes it's easy to get lost but as you said it only works well when everybody does it. We usually have a ride leader and a tail man/woman who is always at the rear both with the planned route and the second man/woman only moves on after they see the tail man/woman arrive. I also stress that everyone ride at their own pace and not try and keep up as we will always wait ahead somewhere. If someone wants to ride faster than the ride leader then they will have to put up with the speed or put a ride on themselves, it all seems to work really well.

I think I've said before i was at this spot years ago watching a load of bikes come through and a few bikes stalled on the bend and dropped their bikes both Harleys, they tried to ride the bend without using the clutch and the bend is too slow to just thump around you need to ride the clutch in first and they couldn't, funny enough i know a few sports bike riders that only use the clutch on or off

I know where your coming from with the route planing even for just a day's trail riding with a group is a load of sweat i usually end up riding the route the week before to make sure it was rideable then on the day you'd have someone saying lets go here or it's better up there but not willing to plot a route or lead a ride themselves that's why i went back to being a miserable twat

Yes i was thinking that myself for a while. There was a good crowd there later they dimmed the lights by taking the tubes out, the seating was minimal consisting of random chairs wooden beams and milk crates and the beer was a can that ran out quickly and one keg. the wife is feeling it this morning no life in her at all lol
