One of the problems with putting the heating on for a few hours and switching it off is you create moisture that then condenses on the cold walls, it needs to be on long enough to dry everything out which could take days, that's why they recommend keeping the temperature above 16c at all times to prevent this. I keep my room stat at 18c when i'm out and its on about 22c when i'm home. I'm paying £120 a month gas same payment all year and they recon we are about £840 in credit. We have a gas oven (that don't get used very often LOL) and gas central heating and our house is like a cave no cavity so no wall insulation only loft insulation.

Trouble with a dehumidifier is they are expensive to run may as well put the heating on and be warm for a similar cost. Unfortunately Clive i think your problem is lack of heat. I'm lucky enough to be able to keep my place above 18c all the time except for the bedrooms as i like it cold in there and the bedrooms are the only place now we get any mould usually around the windows but i wipe it off as soon as i see it forming.

You lot got nothing to worry about. we had a new labourer start in work a few weeks ago and last week we had him working with one of our electricians on a boom lift. We tried about 3 different safety harnesses on him and after I had to shoe horn him into the only one that was anywhere near his size he stepped into the basket and all the alarms started going off. Initially i though it was because the machine was on a slope so i got it on the flat where the machine just confirmed he was a fat bastard. The weight limit on the machine was 2 persons max of 250kg plus 70kg, the lad he was with was probably only around 65kg nothing of him and there was nothing extra in the basket, poor fucker was awfully embarrassed we had to swap him for a slimmer model on that job
