Overbearing Wives putting the kybosh on Bikes!

Following on from a point raised in one of the news articles HERE about wives/girlfriends trying to put the kybosh on husbands' motorcycling......I thought it was an interesting aspect to discuss!

Neither of my wives were into bikes.....but here's the crucial thing:

I met my first wife in 1973......I had a GT380 and I'd had bikes for two years. She knew what she was getting into.

I met my second wife in 1982......I had a Z650 and I'd had bikes for eleven years. She knew what she was getting into.

However, if guys are late starters having a midlife crisis at 50 then I can understand wives putting a kybosh on riding! Because the husbands introduced a different (and potentially dangerous) factor into their lives.

I've never introduced any different factors! Bikes were there before them, and I suspect it's the same situation for most of you! So the wives knew what they were getting into!

No good whining about it now.......and in my case I told them....."If you want your 15 minutes of fame there's a price to pay".

You can't ride Space Mountain without buying a ticket! :classic_cool:

I remember my first wife saying......"If I find out you've been with another girl I'll put a hammer through the bike".

So I got the fucking bike out first obviously!

So.....what's your experiences of this?

My wife has never complained about my bikes, she knows it's what keeps me ticking.  One thing I've done though from day one is keep my bike finances seperate from our everyday expenses, that way there can be no complaining about what I'm buying, I call it my sausage fund.

A few of my mates have a 'sausage fund' as well.

I don’t know of any of this, I spun my car twice while drifting in a wet Nordschleife with Maria on board, to a laugh and a “good on you for keeping it out of the grass”. We bought the 1150 specifically with the aim of touring together, later she was a little scared of riding her crf230 but was making a go at it offroad to get out without the risk of traffic.

I know nothing of overbearing wives.

I do have one overbearing bitch to deal with though......

That's Luna......I rescued her in 2006......she's nearly 15 now.

She was always with my eldest boy until he left in 2016, but over the last couple of years she's latched onto me! Obsessively!

If I leave the house she gets separation anxiety......except if I go on the bike! Then she goes mental!

She barks and howls at the door and goes out of her way to make life as difficult as possible for the wife. Presumably she holds her responsible for letting me go on the bike.

Saturday and Sunday she's on pins......waiting for me to make the move. I've even resorted to trying to sneak out behind her back.....but I always get caught.

If I do something to the bike on a weekday like cleaning it or something, she's there in the garage watching every move I make. And she won't settle down till I cover it again.

You will never manage to do that :classic_laugh:

when I used to pack my clothes on any bag, motorcycle or not, Costa would pout and after a while ignore me while sulking. If I went to pet him before going away for the weekend he will growl and bite me :classic_ninja:

I got back into bikes and then Mandi got one too. I've got four bikes at the mo and she's never said a word in anger.

My youngest son however has sold his bike to Mandi, yes his misses did have something to do with it. Think she managed to remove his back bone during sex.

I met my wife when i was 18 and and pointed out to her straight off that the bike is my thing, she understood from the start and we have enjoyed the bike together for many years riding both home and abroad, in fact the only time she's complained about me going out on the bike is because she's not going with me. I have however felt guilty going out on the bike and leaving her at home as i know how much she would like to be with me.

Why doesn't she get a bike herself Fred?

She has no interest in riding herself and i like it that way to be honest. If she did have a bike i could see it starting arguments because one of the things i like about the bikes is being on my own

I can go out by myself but I prefer looking in the mirror and seeing her there.
If she pisses me off I can ride faster.

I don't get it either....

I as well know nothing of overbearing wives....?

But I have the same style of relationship, we just do stuff together

In regards to the article that started this, I just thought it was a stupid reason to list on "when to buy a bike".

There are too many women riders now for that old boys club shit.  I know of a man in his early 60's who decided out of the blue to buy a bike.  Then he decides to get a Ducati Monster for his first.  Now this chap is not high on the active achiever list, so I can understand why in this case, his wife might just shake her head and renew his insurance policy.

But then I also know of a women in her early 60's that decided to trade the Harley in for a dirt bike, to her husband's confusion and worry.  She has now had to have her face stitched up and several other body parts as she keeps crashing.  So it works both ways these days. ?

As far as the financial factors, well that is up to each situation to decide, a magazine article can not help you with that. ?

That's not fair. If Tym had a wife he would not be able to take care of Mum.

Sure i would, in between her getting me a beer, her taking out the garbage,

and her working a second job the little lady could take care of Mum to boot.
