I am slow

My paper licence is a bit ragged round the edges, had the same one since 97 when I last moved, so when I got my speeding points in 2017 I thought that when I sent it off for endorsement they would make me have a photocard type which I have been avoiding. But no, they sent it back, they don't write on them any more it goes online now of course, so my paper copy is clean at least. Same happened for the 2019 points as well.

When I have to produce it at work or for hiring a bike or car abroad I make sure they don't manhandle it too much, I'm not paying for a new one every 10 years, not when it is valid till 2035.

I cant remember the the first SP30 but the first SP50 was on the M5, the place i worked needed a door latch to finish a motor control center before it could be delivered so they sent me to Bridgewater to pick it up on my bike (1986 VFR750). As I got on the M4 at Cardiff i was stuck behind a lorry being escorted by four police cars i tried to pass but they blocked me off by swerving in front of me with lots of hand gestures so i took it they didn't want me to pass. After crossing the old Severn bridge they carried on along the M4 and i turned off south on the M5, the road had very little traffic on it so i picked up the pace to a sedate 150mph a nice relaxing speed for me back then :classic_laugh: When i was approaching J18 i went through a fog patch and after wiping my visor In the distance i saw what i thought was a patrol car so i just shut the throttle off and let the bike slow down on the engine, it was a copper and i past him at about 75mph which was enough for a pull from him, it was a proper good cop bad cop scenario, i thought he was going to do me for my number plate when he asked me what my reg was on the bike about 8ft in front of him because the number plate was so small he couldn't read it, ended up being done for 96mph in a 70. I had worked out after paying fuel i would have had £75 on the mileage expenses but look how much the fine was, what a twat LOL

I'll take being a casual.

I've never really been a speeder, the fastest I've been on a bike is 130 (when know one was around) .  Having said that I've hit over 85 on a trail with the whole bike skipping about, that's much more excting in my book   :littleguy:

Second SP50 was on the M4, VFR again. travelling back from the Isle of wight after a weekend away with the wife. Going past the junction before the Newport tunnels about 130mph and spots a patrol car in the corner of my eye on top of the bridge so i slows down to 70 and thought i got away with it but he catches me up around Cardiff gate done again 90 in a 70, what a dick i should have stuck to the 130 he would never had caught me before i turned off for home

And the last SP30 VFR again. I was always late for work and forever leaving at the last second. I'd been travelling to ferry road in Cardiff and could do it in 18 minutes riding like a lunatic same route every morning. This particular morning i was later than normal and after not being able take another bollocking i had to pull out all the stops to get there, I was up over the country lane from my house to Beddau in the blink of an eye and left the mini roundabout on the back wheel going as hard as i could and what should i pass going the other way while on the back wheel a bloody pursuit car, never seen one in this area before no problem i thinks as i drop back onto two wheels he ain't catching me. I come up behind a car going into a bend ahead and thinks take your time there's a long downhill straight after the bend you can take him there, but as i enters the straight i see another pursuit car in the junction half way down the hill, i decided to play it cool and follow the car down, the copper pulls out behind me and i feel my heart sink as i see the blue lights come on as i'm really getting a bollocking in work now i'm going to be real late. So sat in the plod car he asks me what the speed limit is down the hill and i say 50 he says no it's 30 and i go down the victimisation route and ask why i was pulled over instead of the car in front doing the same speed and his words were, he didn't come out of Beddau roundabout like a fucking lunatic do you want a fixed penalty or go to court so i accepted a fixed penalty and left with my tail between my legs :classic_laugh: 54 in a 30 that time, but i recon i was reported and the cops were waiting for me as i'd been down that hill about the same time of day for months at over 100mph so it was back to the A470 now that was deadly hated that route

I'll admit it - I ride like my hair is on fire and my ass is catchin'. Rarely do less than 85 / 90 mph on motorways and 10-15 mph over on other roads.

Yet,  I have never had a speeding ticket on a motorcycle in over 400,000 miles or so of riding. Dunno why, just dumb luck, I guess.

Got pulled for 61 mph in a 55 zone last summer - no ticket, just talked to the Trooper for a bit.....

You have, however, gotten a ticket for passing in a no passing zone... or have you forgotten about the little meeting with the Tennessee Valley Authority a bunch of years back?  Jeep Cherokee blocking the bridge on the straight after the twisties through the wooded section? Had a cop riding with us so they knocked it down from reckless driving? $75 and never went on my record in Indiana since it was the TVA and not a state cop if I recall correctly.

That's the only ticket I've gotten on a bike. Got pulled over once and asked where I was going in such a hurry. I just said "I dunno" and then he asked why my plate was zip tied on. Got into the story of just moving here, plates were different sizes, frames are hard to get for these fancy Dewcahtees etc etc. Let me go with a warning. Had lights flashed at me a few times and at least once the guy just ignored me as I came at him at 80mph on the wrong side of the double yellow while passing bicycles that were out in the road. That was on the Blueridge Parkway, I think the limit is 30mph along there? I was on a bright yellow 996, I'm pretty sure he saw me.

The first speeding ticket I ever got was in a diesel Rabbit (VW Golf). 63 in a 55 on the interstate. Fucker threatened to arrest me if I didn't pay it right then and there. I was 100 miles from home, coming back from visiting my girlfriend who was off at college, I had $1.50 with me, no credit cards, no check book and it was before cell phones. I told him let's go then and he backed off. Turns out you can pay by mail too. Prick.

I forgot about that - and it was like 25 years ago. I was on a '93 or a '95 CBR900RR.

BRP is pretty much 45 all along the whole thing. Way too low for the quality of the road if ya ask me.

This is all a bit of an eye opener for me Fred, in the time I've known you I've never seen you ride like that at all.  I suppose trail bikes calm you down a bit though  ?

I traded the VFR for the Africa Twin in 1993 to slow me down @boboneleg but all it did was reduce my top speed i was still a twat in the twisties and i was a bigger twat when i rode on my own, when with others i tend to ride as they do. I have slowed down a lot over the the last 10 years but i still have my moments where i just go off on one. I owned the VFR for four years and had a speeding ticket every year. I also had i few run ins with the police i wont put up in print on it so it had to go and i also decided i couldn't be trusted on anything sporty so stuck to the trail bikes or naked bikes to keep the top speed down.

I've never been a mad rider, I fear falling off too much, but I also only obey speed limits if I think there's a chance of getting caught, other than that I go at the speed I am happy that I won't (most importantly) hurt myself or hurt anyone else. I go less than the speed limit if I think it's a bit too iffy to go any quicker, I am always on the look out for what could get in my way or cause me problems ahead. Like a prophet of doom for that I am.

On the other hand if I think it's safe and I won't get caught I'll go lots over the limit, especially in some places where local politicians have had it lowered because they think it will lower accidents. My own employer has a 20mph borough wide limit which is a joke, even the buses, the Police and the cyclists drive/ride more quickly than that. Outside a school or a park, fair enough, but on a 3 lane wide road with no houses and wide footways????? The silly thing is, it means I don't have to light up signs, put some road markings in or put as much anti skid surfacing before ped x-ings down because the prevailing limit is 20, despite everyone actually still doing 30/40 when they get a free run up.

The fastest I ever went on a bike was only 140 and I only did that twice, once 2 up on the main A road between Plymouth and Exeter on my first FJ1200 and once on the A13 in Essex on my second FJ just to see if it felt like the first time. Wasn't that keen if I'm honest. Now I rarely go over 100 on the motorway.

I got my first ticket on my way home from my driving test in my 66 GTO when i was 16. I've had enough since then to completely fill a couple of cops ticket books over the years.

The worst  i ever had was in 2000 on my Blackbird in Concrete Washington. Apparently the cops had been trying to catch us since we took off on Hwy 20 just outside of Winthrop which is 50 miles before you hit the city of  Concrete WA.

They had three cruisers blocking the road just outside of town and had guns drawn. Me and the two other idiots friends of mine ended up getting arrested and spent Sunday night in jail. Who knew that the didn't like people going 140 miles an hour on their stretch of the Hwy.

I am guilty of so much more stupidity on bikes that i'm amazed that i didn't kill myself tbh. It took my friend Bogdan's death on another one of our adventures to finally get me to stop being such an idiot on the street. That's when i took it to the track and started racing to satisfy my cravings for speed and adrenalin.

Bogdan was one of the guy's who was arrested with me in Washington the year before. We were riding on Hwy 12 here in BC. It's a very twisty narrow road that hugs really rocky cliffs. He was in the lead when we came around a tight decreasing radius  corner and just after it he ran into a small rock slide.

He hit it going well over 100 miles an hour. Bogdan and his Busa cartwheeled for about 200 feet together before they both flew off the road and tumbled down a very steep drop off about 400 feet.

I was the first person to get down to him and he died while i held him about 5 minutes later.I no longer ride fast on the street. tbh i rarely even ride on the street at all anymore. I get my high speed fix by road racing and racing my motards. if i ride on the street at all it's to get into the mountains on one of my dualsports.
